New Yorker Magazine Frets Over ‘Creepy Infiltration’ of Christian Chick-fil-A

“pervasive Christian traditionalism”

If you weren’t already convinced that the New Yorker embodies the idea of snobbish, urban, limousine liberals, here’s a story which should confirm it for you once and for all.

Writer Dan Piepenbring is deeply concerned:

From the story:

Chick-fil-A’s Creepy Infiltration of New York City

During a recent lunch hour, I was alone on the rooftop of the largest Chick-fil-A in the world. The restaurant, on Fulton Street, is the company’s fourth in Manhattan, and it opened last month to the kind of slick, corporate-friendly fanfare that can only greet a new chain. The first hundred customers had participated in a scavenger hunt around the financial district. At an awards ceremony, the management honored them with a year’s supply of free chicken sandwiches and waffle fries.

There were no such prizes on offer when I visited, but from the fifth-floor terrace—on the top floor of the restaurant, which is twelve thousand square feet—I could see that the line to get inside stretched almost to the end of the block. An employee took orders on a touch screen and corralled people through the doors. The air smelled fried.

New York has taken to Chick-fil-A. One of the Manhattan locations estimates that it sells a sandwich every six seconds, and the company has announced plans to open as many as a dozen more storefronts in the city. And yet the brand’s arrival here feels like an infiltration, in no small part because of its pervasive Christian traditionalism. Its headquarters, in Atlanta, is adorned with Bible verses and a statue of Jesus washing a disciple’s feet.

How dare they!

Ben Shapiro writes at the Daily Wire:

Are workers forced to sing hymns as they work? Are they required to worship while they work? Not at all. No, the problem is that Chick-fil-A’s VP of restaurant experience told BuzzFeed that they want their employees to be efficient but “feel like you just got hugged in the process.”

The horror!

The story provoked some strong reactions on Twitter, via Twitchy:

As I eat my Chick-fil-A breakfast, I can’t avoid to flip the bird at those idiots at the New Yorker.

(Do I have to say it again? Apparently, they never learn!)

Proving God has a great sense of humor. Right now he’s having a hearty laugh over turning the bitter tears of his enemies into a brilliant marketing campaign for his allies.

Does anyone in NY or the nation not know there is a Chick Fil A in NY City now? Genius!

The rage the left expresses about Chick Fil A is comical. IT’S A CHICKEN STAND! Get over it.

While it is fortunate that what happens in the USA can happen in NYC, sometimes I wish what mostly happens otherwise in NYC stays in NYC.

And yet the brand’s arrival here feels like an infiltration…

That’s just because the writer is a bigoted idiot.

Normal people just see it as a place to get good food.

They made themselves into a political lightening rod. Duh!

Personally, I would not bother to boycott them. It is just that there are so many excellent, individual restaurants and small chains that it will be a very long time before I bother to check them out. I simply don’t need them. That goes for chain pizza and chain hamburgers, too.

I feel sorry for those who’s choices are so limited.

That Scrawler is also a RACIST!!!!!

    He’s racist against Chickens!!!!!

If the commie libs can’t tolerate the chicken then go for the waffle fries! If they are available there, some of their milk shakes are pretty darn good too.

I’ve never been to New York [city or state]. Probably never will. There are a few historical things I would like to see, and more than a few restaurants I would like to try [while I kinda like Chick-fil-A for day to day food, I also appreciate upscale dining] it is not worth going to a place run and populated by violent, bigoted, totalitarians who hate this country, its people, and its Constitution.

a place run and populated by violent, bigoted, totalitarians who hate this country, its people, and its Constitution.

I wouldn’t want to go to those places either. But I discovered that even the reddest states have lot to offer. Even people like you are interesting – sort of like visiting the zoo.

Many, many years ago my VW Bus broke down in Muskogee, OK. We were stuck there and decided to shoot some pool. As we walked in to the bar/pool hall there was silence as most of the bar stools swiveled to give the barflys a better look. We order a pitcher and a rack of balls. Everyone sort of went “Oh” and went back to their drinks.

BTW, the song was originally written as satire.

A final piece of advice – we are the majority. The constitution gives you unequal representation. But eventually you will lose.

Even people like you are interesting – sort of like visiting the zoo.

This statement makes you better how?

Since you have chosen to separate yourself from us, I will do likewise: We grow your food, we provide the energy which powers your cities, and 50 million of us own rifles. Your supposed “majority” is no threat to us.

Sometimes a chicken sandwich is just a chicken sandwich.

The New Yorker article does give yet another demonstration of “tolerance” and “inclusiveness” of the Progressive Left where purity of political and non-religious expression is desired. Actually more than desired as demanded. The Progs openly want Islamic infiltration and will tolerate.. somewhat traditional Jewish belief and thought…for now. Forget The Bill of Rights, the willful erosion of the Decalogue is far more dangerous. Can’t have people believing in something other than the glory of secular atheistic humanism.

You are welcome to your superstitions until they tread on my liberty.

While you and the other Lunatics in your Liberal world try to deny the rest of us of our liberties.

Being a Lunatic Liberal evidently means never having to think beyond the emotion of the moment

The progressive mind is a lonely and confused place, they want freedom yet don’t, believe in sanctity of life but don’t, are generally against religion but have no problem with worship of Gaia through the Climate Change religion, or the more typical self worship, or even Muslim worship. Don’t try to argue with a progressive, as they can’t even keep up with their views unless Nanny Government tells them so.

      Mr. YellowGrifterInChief, sir:
About “You are welcome to your superstitions until they tread on my liberty.”

You precisely have your liberty because of our “superstitions”. Because we believe in a just and loving God, who has instructed us to love our neighbors as ourselves, we extend to you liberty, whether you “deserve” it or not. Our attempting to follow the Commandments makes a better world for those who love to hate. We even give you the right to sneer at us. In progressive heavens, such as Cuba, or the former Soviet Union, or Communist China, this doesn’t happen. We grant you property rights, and the right to start a business and make piles of money, to spend as you wish. In a pathetic lack of gratitude you sneer at us. I am sure, that if we lose the cultural revolution and are to be put to death, you will be a volunteer to do the job, to be our executioner.

Happiness is a choice. You do not need to be unhappy. You give consistent, convincing, and clear evidence of your bitter, miserable life. We read you loud and clear: This author has no joy, and wishes no one to be joyful. Loud and clear.

So you support greed, lying, murder, adultery and dissing parents? Great…. The Decalogue includes universal prohibitions recognized as important to human society even in pagan societies.

I couldn’t resist reading the whole article by this overly smug, Brooklynite. He is just so indoctrinated, poor thing clearly hasn’t smiled in ages! And his insults, I can’t wait to see his review of the Halal chicken-and-rice stands (yeah, right).

All of his fellow New Yorkers happiness bothers him as does their promos. It’s worth asking why Americans fell in love with an ad in which one farm animal begs us to kill another in its place. The poor fellow can’t even understand humor.

At the end of the day, hard working Americans are serving up a tasty lunch at a reasonable price, in clean, pleasant surroundings. They have Christian values, they close on Sunday. It’s the American dream, Dan. Get over it!

Haven’t there been Wal-Mart stores in the New York Metroplex for years and years and years now?

New York Magazine?? Are they still making that brand of toilet paper??

For many years and I cannot recall when it ended (~40 years ago?), the New Yorker has a legend at the bottom of every cover: Not for the little old lady from Dubuque.

This is just old-fashioned NYC snobbery.

I remember 16 1/2 years ago how grateful I felt for the love and support we New Yorkers got from our country as we walked about dazed after September 11th. But gratitude doesn’t have a perpetual shelf life.

Sadly, neither does love and support have a perpetual shelf life. New York’s hatred and contempt for any part of the country that is not appropriately Marxist has about used it up.

New York and London are in competition to see which can be the more inhospitable to their fellow countrymen.

Chick-fil-A is about to open it’s first location in Santa Fe, NM. I guarantee it’s going to be packed on opening day and will stay very busy from that day on. I love knowing the leftists will be gnashing their teeth every time they drive past it and see that full parking lot.

YellowGrifterInChief in reply to Sanddog. | April 14, 2018 at 1:56 pm

I think we get a lot more bothered when we see a confederate statue. So you have a very low bar.

As the statues come down, you are welcome to erect as many Chick-fil-A’s as the market will bear. Sooner or later the only thing that will get you smiling is the memory of a long line at a Cfl. The rest of your bogus beliefs will vanish like a fart.

That’s what your buddies the Nazis and Communists thought. I guess that fascism appeals to you Progressive Fascists.

Can we assume you’ll be leading the charge to remove the name of a KKK Grand Kleagle from all of the buildings, bridges and tunnels in West Virginia?

Those boys in the tallyban love removing items of historical significance. I guess you are one of the “erase history” people. Didn’t the Soviets do that under Stalin? Pictures of the Polibureau would be edited: if somebody had been removed they did the analog-darkroom version of airbrushing out of the picture. I figure we need to keep our statues, of Confederates and others. Perhaps to remind us of our past sins. Or to remind us that even talented, gifted individuals can have serious flaws. Or that truth and justice go beyond an individual.

Even Voldemort was great, and did greal, alebet evil things, even if he was seriously flawed and demented.

“I think we get a lot more bothered when we see a confederate statue”

I haven’t noticed that. It’s not even a binary switch with Leftists… they’re ALWAYS “bothered” to the point of outrage. The target of the day may change, but they’ll always find something.

Despite the wailing from this elitist at the New Yorker, it is evident that lots of ordinary New Yorkers are happy to buy a good fast-food chicken sandwich.

The best thing about Christians in the fast-food industry is that there is no Christian sect operating today which worships dirt. So I have reasonable confidence that no Chick-Fil-A employee will cite Scripture as an excuse to not wash his hands before handling the merchandise.

I wonder how the author feels about the various falafel chains that are growing in Manhattan.

Milhouse in reply to John M. | April 15, 2018 at 3:40 am

They’re secular Israeli, so I assume he’s very comfortable with them.

Contra Peter Hasson, Piepenbring would certainly be very disturbed if NYC were to be “infiltrated” by a Moslem or Jewish equivalent of Chick-Fil-A. He’s probably almost as creeped out by B&H, but what can you do, there’s nowhere else to go for such good deals, and in any case those are New York fanatics, so they’re part of the landscape, not infiltrators from outside.

“pervasive Christian traditionalism”

Positive progress. Pro-Choice, including: selective-child, diversity, chauvinism, congruence, conflation, etc., is engendered by a twilight faith, dysfunctional religious/moral philosophy, and secular traditions that predate civilized societies.

The Left, which hates Christianity, won’t like what comes after Christianity is destroyed. Women’s rights, for example, and the treatment of children, is better in Christian influenced nations than others. Women do have some protections in Hindu areas, but there are areas of India with girl shortages, because of sex-preference abortions. I recall seeing a video where a couple was assured the baby being aborted was a female. After the abortion, the couple was shown the aborted baby. If the baby was a male, they had their fee refunded. In Islam, the testimony of two (2) females are needed to counter the testimony of one (1) male in court. And there is that female-genital-mutilation thing. Aren’t property rights part of that heritage? Of course, with Marxism nothing is personal, including your property and your thoughts.

I think Chik-Fil-A is nice. They gave me a free cone! See, life is simple…

Here in the south, there are many people that actually say things like “have a blessed day” and mean it.. I think that is nice too, but I am waiting for some liberal writer to claim it is actually hate speech. Dan Piepenbring needs to have a cone, and a blessed day, sadly, I don’t think there is much hope for him.

I think the best comment I’ve seen about the “infiltration” was:

THE POWER OF CHICKEN COMPELS YOU!
THE POWER OF CHICKEN COMPELS YOU!

Me, I just wish they’d open a kosher branch so I could see what the fuss was about. But I suppose it wouldn’t be the same recipe, so I still couldn’t taste whatever magic they have.

Barry in reply to Milhouse. | April 15, 2018 at 1:28 pm

Or, you could do what my Jewish friends have always done, eat the stuff discreetly. You will then find out mixing religion with food prohibition only means you’re loosing out.

I’d start with eastern NC Barbecue. That would do it.

    🙂

If the “tolerant Left” cannot accept the idea of a Chik-fil-a and conservative thinking invasion, then perhaps they could build a wall to keep them all out.
