Fusion GPS co-founders signal next phase in attempted Trump takedown has started

What is known about the Fusion GPS role in stoking and implementing an attempted takedown of candidate and ultimately president Trump is one of the greatest political scandals in memory. But it’s a story that only partially has been told.

We now know that Russian-Collusion-mania had as its source-fuel Fusion GPS opposition research funded by the Clinton campaign and Democratic National Committee. The culmination of that effort was the so-called Steele dossier, which was used to obtain FISA court warrants to surveil Carter Page, and by extension, likely other members of the Trump campaign and transition team both in real time and historically.

What is less known, but almost certain, is how Fusion GPS pushed Russia conspiracy stories through its close relationship with reporters, and likely continues to do so. Fusion GPS not only was tight with reporters, it was tight with DOJ officials involved in pushing the Russia conspiracy narrative.

Manipulating the political process and media on Russia was Act I, playing out in the Mueller investigation.

Act II, as I’ve previously written, is the SDNY investigation of Michael Cohen on a referral from Mueller. That Act II, even more so than Act I, is a more direct attack on Trump’s business dealings and history than Mueller could justify keeping under his jurisdiction.

That Act II starring Michael Cohen is an attack on Trump is suggested by none other than the co-founders of Fusion GPS, Peter Fritsch and Glenn R. Simpson, in an Op-Ed in the house organ of the Resistance, the NY Times, The Business Deals That Could Imperil Trump

Put aside Russian collusion for a moment. Press pause on possible presidential obstruction of justice. Forget Stormy Daniels. The most significant recent development involving the president may be that the special counsel, Robert Mueller, has subpoenaed Trump Organization business records as part of his inquiry into Russian interference in the presidential election.

Those documents — and records recently seized by the F.B.I. from the president’s personal lawyer Michael Cohen — might answer a question raised by the president’s critics: Have certain real estate investors used Trump-branded properties to launder the proceeds of criminal activity around the world?

Right up front they posit an ulterior motive for the prosecution, and a willingness to circulate rumors of criminality much like they circulated rumors of Russian collusion.

They continue to put forth their suspicions, while admitting they have no hard evidence (emphasis added):

We pored over Donald Trump’s business records for well over a year, at least those records you can get without a badge or a subpoena. We also hired a former British intelligence official, Christopher Steele, to look into Mr. Trump’s possible ties to Russia. In that 2015-2016 investigation, sponsored first by a Republican client and then by Democrats, we found strong indications that companies affiliated with Mr. Trump, then a presidential candidate, might have been entangled in foreign corruption.

A string of bankruptcies in the 1990s and 2000s may have left Mr. Trump’s companies largely unable to tap traditional sources of financing. That could have forced him to look elsewhere for financing and partners at a time when money was pouring out of the former Soviet Union.

Indeed, from New York to Florida, Panama to Azerbaijan, we found that Trump projects have relied heavily on foreign cash — including from wealthy individuals from Russia and elsewhere with questionable, and even criminal, backgrounds. We saw money traveling through offshore shell companies, entities often used to obscure ownership. Many news organizations have since dug deeply into the Trump Organization’s projects and come away with similar findings.

This reporting has not uncovered conclusive evidence that the Trump Organization or its principals knowingly abetted criminal activity. And it’s not reasonable to expect the company to keep track of every condo buyer in a Trump-branded building. But Mr. Trump’s company routinely teamed up with individuals whose backgrounds should have raised red flags.

There you have it. The media narrative for the coming year is set.

Russian collusion as a political strategy is failing, so now it’s Trump Organization money laundering and fraternizing with criminal elements. Proof to follow, maybe.

You should listen to what Peter Fritsch and Glenn R. Simpson are saying. They have signaled the future of media coverage, Democratic attacks, and prosecutorial focus.

Sigh. Another year of rampaging monkeys dressed in tuxedos frantically flinging poo.

I think if GPS had started with this tack, they would have gotten far more traction than with the Access Hollywood or the P-tapes. As it stands now, I don’t think it will change many minds

I genuinely fear for our Republic. The constant attacks on our institutions and values from the Left are evil and irrational, but when they can’t win at the ballot box by lying, they use the judiciary. When given power for a short time, their tentacles spread a deep state hard to unravel. And if that’s not enough, straight out direct actions. And all the while working the schools to infect young minds.. who now grow to take their place in what is now resistance. But really is insurrection.

How can we fix this??

They also started the rumor that the NRA had been infiltrated by Russian operatives and was being manipulated by them. Now this story. It appears that they haven’t learned anything from this whole debacle and maybe Sessions needs to give them some pointers.

Notice that with few exceptions, the spineless GOPe is standing on the sidelines silently cheering this on. I am convinced they are content with throwing the mid-term election to the Democrats so that impeachment talk and/or proceedings can begin and not be blamed for any of it. It almost feels like the political class in DC has given up on the country and has adopted an every man for himself mentality. After 25 years of following politics, I’ve never felt more alienated from DC than I do now.

The D’rat’s impeachment fantasy spells the end of the Federal government as anything resembling a functional entity, and the eclipse of the United States as a country of consequence.

Its logical conclusion is that Congress can remove any President … at any time … for any reason … or for no reason.

And this would be a disaster. No branch of the Federal government was ever intended to be so abjectly subservient to any of the others. Unlimited impeachment power, justified solely by policy differences rather than by high crimes and misdemeanors, would put Congress in uncontested charge of both the Executive and the Judiciary. And that, besides being blatantly unConstitutional, is a formula for immediate failure, because Congress is by far the most inept branch of the government. It’s always performed poorly, even before there was a United States of America—when the Continental Congress, rather than doing anything important, such as coming up with a plan to pay Washington’s troops starving and freezing at Valley Forge, instead spent its time debating whether dancing should be made illegal. A more worthless bunch than Congress has never been inflicted on us. I can’t envision any Congress we’ve ever had being capable of so much as tying its own shoes without a Chief Executive or a Judiciary to occasionally slap it into line.

Its logical conclusion is that Congress can remove any President … at any time … for any reason … or for no reason. And this would be a disaster.

This has always been the case. A “high crime or misdemeanor” has always meant whatever Congress wants it to mean. And yet we’ve gone 230 years without disaster.

artichoke in reply to Milhouse. | April 23, 2018 at 7:35 am

Has it ever been interpreted by Congress to include things that happened, and voters more or less knew about, before they elected the President?

        tom_swift in reply to Milhouse. | April 23, 2018 at 11:07 am

A commonplace bromide, but obviously not true; and it won’t be true until the bastards are successful.

The Democrats have been trying since the Chase impeachment in 1804, back when they were called Republicans. The Republicans (the real ones, the post-1854 party) tried something similar with Johnson in 1868. Those attempt were unsuccessful, which means that as a practical matter impeachment is not whatever Congress thinks it is.

Should that ever change, the result will be disastrous.

          Milhouse in reply to tom_swift. | April 23, 2018 at 2:07 pm

You’re babbling. You’re making no sense whatsoever. It’s a simple and obvious fact that if the House wants to impeach someone it can do so, and nobody can stop it. The House has never failed to impeach someone for what it considered a sufficient offense; how could it fail? If an impeachment vote fails it simply means the House has decided not to impeach, not that it can’t. Therefore an impeachable offense is by definition whatever the House says it is.

And a removable offense is whatever 2/3 of the senate says it is. Once again, if more than 1/3 of the senate votes to acquit, it doesn’t mean it couldn’t have convicted, just that it chose not to.

Collectively, therefore a high crime or misdemeanor is whatever Congress says it is.

notamemberofanyorganizedpolicital in reply to Guein. | April 23, 2018 at 7:29 pm

    Concluded the same Guein.

That would be why so many GOPe are “retiring” – so they can throw the House to the Dictatorship Party.

All they do is accuse Trump of behaving like he’s a Clinton.

Milhouse in reply to Crawford. | April 23, 2018 at 2:52 am

Which is probably true. Don’t ever forget that until he decided to challenge Hillary, he and the Clintons were close friends. And don’t forget his phone call to Bill C before he announced his run; it still seems very likely that he was clearing it with them, letting them know that he didn’t expect to win the nomination, let alone the election, wasn’t serious when attacking them, and expected to resume their friendship as soon as the election was over and Hillary was president. Their friendship only really went sour when he realized he could snatch the prize from Hillary’s grasp, and decided to carpe diem.

artichoke in reply to Milhouse. | April 23, 2018 at 7:38 am

Or alternatively, lied to them to let them think he expected to lose. He shouldn’t have had to get such clearance, but it was probably useful at the time.

Trump certainly stepped out of line. The press and the establishment went from loving him to hating him. He did something to them.

I wonder where this Fusion GPS started, and if it has ties to operatives such as Soros and his ilk. Soros has been spending a lot of money in an effort to bring down Trump.

We are in a very dark political landscape, it feels like the forces of evil rather than just political foes that are being fought here. This country is a mess, no small part of the blame for that rests with Clinton and Obama, where the politics of personal destruction has been playing an ever larger role and widening the division in this country.

I fear they are pushing civil war, they have society being torn apart because of the vendettas they have been waging against any Republican President since Bush 1, and it only keeps being pushed further. It is disgraceful how the left is playing their game, and the base is going insane when it comes to politics. I don’t see many paths left for a happy ending for the US.

    Elliott in reply to oldgoat36. | April 23, 2018 at 5:42 am

Mrs Glenn Simpson is Mary Jacoby. She interestingy worked at the Rose Law Firm in Little Rock as an teenage intern when Mrs Clinton worked there also. Mary Jacoby’s extended family owns and runs the firm that does Walmart stock offerings legal and financial work and became very weatlhty doing it. Jacoby and Mrs Clinton intersect professionally and personally many, many times over the years. Ms Jacoby also spent time in the White House while some of the Fusion GPS stunts were being cooked up in 2016. A lot of wives keep popping up and even Comey had to blat out his wife was a Resist marcher if not active participant such as Nellie Ohr or Jacoby.

No hard evidence? You mean NO EVIDENCE full stop!

It’s apparent now that Trump has been particularly careful not to get involved in anything dodgy personally…almost as if he had been planning on running for President for some time (knowing how damaging dirt could be for any prospective nominee).

So it should come as no surprise that his business dealings would be similarly clean. All this talk about Cohen flipping is wish casting on the Democrats behalf simply because they are just assuming Trump must be up to no good!!

The sad reality for Democrats is the only people who have been colluding with the Ruskies was themselves!!!

    mrtoad21 in reply to mailman. | April 23, 2018 at 7:01 am

It’s getting to the point where Trump may be one of the cleanest Presidents ever. This is a man who’s been under surveillance (not just investigation) by the highest levels of law enforcement, counter terrorism & justice and one can reasonably assume the IRS, UN (Samantha Power), Federal Election Commission and State Department as well. US Government assets have been used against him since the night he won the Republican nomination. And they still got nothin’.

I can’t remember any President ever subjected to this kind of “investigation”. So far, The Donald is looking pretty damn “Honest Abe”.

What is stunning is how we now know that the entire counter intelligence investigation that morphed into the Trump-Russia investigation was based on fabricated information. In other words, there is simply no basis behind the initial trump-investigation and the assignment of Mueller to investigate anything and yet there is a continued call to keep this investigation/lie going. If everything associated with the reason for this special counsel is a lie, then how can they continue to justify Mueller?
>
The truth of the matter is that the best defense is a strong offence. The Left knows the noose is tightening around their own necks so they continue to push Mueller to find something, anything, that can be used to attack Trump. This is clearly becoming less and less an investigation and more and more an overt attempt to conduct a coup however they can and it needs to stop now.

MarkS in reply to Cleetus. | April 23, 2018 at 7:02 am

The whole point of this exercise is to remove Trump from the office of president and his #Resistance is not going to be deterred by something as trivial, to them, as the truth!

MNCPO in reply to Cleetus. | April 23, 2018 at 2:57 pm

That is exactly why Rudy was brought onboard. He knows everything that the NYPD knows. In other words he knows what is on Weiner’s laptop. It’d been established that NYPD shared with him. The Conservative Treehouse has alot of good info on this. I expect Mueller will start “wrapping things up” in the next few weeks. A negotiated surrender with the choice being “going to jail for a real long time or just being embarrassed for awhile.” We give up nobody, not Page, Lynch, Ohr, nobody. They fold or else.

It seems worthwhile to point out that one of the first moves Cohen made after the FBI raided him was to DROP HIS LIBEL SUIT AGAINST FUSION GPS.

One can only hope it was a Judo or 4-D chess feint.

Well, sure he dropped it. Not only because he’s under criminal investigation and needs to concentrate on that fight, but because if he kept up the civil suit, he would be subject to extensive discovery and would be forced to testify under oath in depositions, with no right to refuse to answer questions.

The Left has become a vast horde of rabid wolves snapping and tearing its way through traditional American values and institutions. I see no way to stop them or their allies, the radical Muslim jihadists. I trace the spark back to Bush v. Gore in the Supreme Court and the Trump election is simply feeding a continuous stream of fuel onto that fire. Civility has disappeared. Old friends, who previously were thoughtful, thinking liberals willing to compromise and mindful of the blessings and traditions of our nation, have become hate-filled adversaries intent only on destruction of that same country. And when they succeed, and install the American equivalent of Pol Pot as their leader, it will begin.

The Republic is dead and buried. The only thing that will save our liberties is a Pinochet-style coup and dictatorship that will sweep away the communists and criminals that comprise the Deep State. Mueller and his staff, GPS, the Democrat leadership and most of the press should be rotting in cages in Gitmo right now.

Well the throwing Commies from helicopter part sounds okay to me

If you throw a commie from a helicopter he flies for a minute.
If you teach a commie how to throw himself from a helicopter ,he flies for the rest of his life

Do I really need to quote the opening paragraphs of the Declaration of Independence?

There’s no such animal as a “good dictatorship”, or, generally, even a temporary one. Octavian may have had something of the sort in mind, but it never happened. The Republic was never restored, and although all subsequent emperors claimed their authority to be derived from SPQR, Senatus Populusque Romanus, the “Senate and People of Rome”, in practice neither had much to say about it.

One of the wisest features of the Constitution is that it has no provision for special executive offices to deal with emergencies, transient or otherwise. The lessons those dead white guys took from classical history did not extend to the office of “tyrant” … and a good thing, too. The fatal flaw of the meticulously designed Weimar Constitution was that it allowed such powers, and once invoked, they were never relinquished. And we all know how well that worked out.

All roads lead to Perkins Coie

I’m shocked! You’re telling me that shady people use real estate to launder money. Next you’re going to tell me they use the art world and cash businesses to clean their cash.

The Colluders have credibility somewhere between the Truthers and the Birthers.

What?

I thought we were still stuck on the 25th Amendment.

Sessions could end all of this at any time by indicating McCabe. He won’t. He likes having dinner with Rod too much.

Fusion GPS needs to be fully prosecuted for multiple campaign finance violations, as well as their co-conspirator “journalists” pushing paid propaganda.

Fusion GPS must be made an example of to prevent future occurrences, and damage to the free press.

It was interesting, someone above posted about what else has GPS Fusion did. Excellent question. I was listening to an NPR report (yes I actually listened to NPR) about how GPS Fusion and WSJ ganged up on him and trashed him for corrupt South American country.

Here is an example of something that might be from what I listened to:

Thor Halvorssen, head of the New York-based Human Rights Foundation, said in testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee that Fusion GPS operated a smear campaign against journalists who threatened to expose a multibillion dollar fraud involving faulty South American electric power plants, the laundering of its proceeds in U.S. banks, and a kickback scheme to pay off Venezuelan officials.

https://www.intellihub.com/anti-trump-dossier-firm-did-work-for-corrupt-regimes-rights-group-claims/

Also here:

Fusion GPS’s co-founder, former Wall Street Journal reporter Glenn Simpson, has been a key figure in the Russian election meddling saga ever since the Anti-Trump dossier, which alleged a years-long Kremlin conspiracy to elect Donald Trump and included colorful sex stories, was leaked to the press after the Republican’s November victory over Democrat Hillary Clinton.

Right on cue, Natalia V. is going, “Hello!? Hello!? Bob!? Please call me.”

Mary Jacoby worked for the Rose Law firm .
On April 19 she went to White House
On April 18 2016 Admiral Rogers cut off thew FISA 702 access to FBI contractors redacted 3 spaces (GPS ?) another spot 11 spaces (Fushion GPS ) . The next day Fushion brought on Nellie Ohr whose husband Bruce still had access through DOJ data bases .
Makes you wonder did Mary need President Jarrett’s help ?

Rosenstein cleared Clinton as a Whitewater prosector. His wife represented her in a case after wards. Sessions has a relationship with Rosenstein through a well-connected Washington lawyer named Charles Cooper, who is a University of Alabama alum and who represents Sessions in the Russia case. Cooper interviewed Rosenstein when Sessions was considering making Rosenstein his number two, and Cooper signed off on Rosenstein.

Bloomberg Stockholders need to sue its current management into the poor house for mis-using stockowners’ funds this way.

“Flight Records Illuminate Mystery of Trump’s Moscow Nights”

I don’t believe they’ll be able to stretch this as far as the collusion thing. There they had national security to hide the facts behind while they could hint and spin all they wanted to.

Now they’ll have to show in black and white what they mean.

Plus, Trump lawyers can go on the offensive and bring out what they doing and who’s doing it.

This is all going to melt before the midterms and the Democrats will be standing in the middle of the wreckage wondering how it happened.

The common folks, the deplorables and the normals are having the veils torn from their eyes. They can’t avoid it any more they’re having it shoved in their face 24/7. The libs thinks this will work as before but we’re tiring of the lies and we’re seeing the rules debased and discarded for one side yet pushed to the max for the other side. That goes against the American sense of fair play and people are starting to realize that the left doesn’t play fair and doesn’t have the nation at heart in its actions.

Funny thing is, many of the impeach crowd think that if Trump is removed from office that Hillary will become president.
