Senate Judiciary Committee Has Questions About Bizarre Email Obama Aide Susan Rice Sent to Herself

What in the world is going on here?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sH0akjRDJsY

Republican Senators Grassley and Graham sent a request for clarification to former Obama National Security Advisor Susan Rice last week.

In the request, the Senators posed 12 questions, all centered around one email Rice sent to herself on inauguration day, in the final moments of her tenure in the White House. The committee came across the email during their ongoing investigation into the FBI/Steele Dossier cluster.

Rice emailed herself, documenting a conversation with President Obama, then FBI Director James Comey, then Deputy AG Sally Yates, and then Vice President Biden.

The email reads as follows:

Speculation is wide-ranging. Did Rice purposely document a conversation in order to present a version of events that might not be congruent with the truth? Was she attempting to make the investigation into Russian election interference look above board? Or, and I believe most likely, did she simply email herself a rundown of the meeting because she failed to do so elsewhere?

Nevertheless, the timing of the email is what has many brows raised. That she went out of her way to include President Obama’s insistence on a “by the book” investigation is also a bit…odd. But it might be true. It might also be otherwise.

Last year, Rice landed in hot water when reports surfaced that she’d “unmasked” the names of Trump campaign and transition officials. Rice never denied the reports, only obfuscated. The story became stranger when Rice had the unmasking records sent to Obama’s Presidential Library…which hasn’t been built yet. Those records may not be available for at least four more years.

As with everything in the nasty mess of Russia/FBI/Trump investigations and scandals, the piecemeal publication of information like this only raises more questions than it answers. It’s virtually impossible to understand the whole picture when all we have is a tiny little piece. But it’s hard to assume this email is completely harmless when dropping it into the context of Rice’s history of overt interference for the Obama administration.

“Funny that you should ask. Yes, I do know what the term ‘self-serving means.’ And yes, I do realize that I am a real piece of sh_t. Most Obama people fit that description. Actually it was a job requirement.”

Is this ‘by the book’ supposed to have involved it being thrown at Donald Trump and any non-Democrat person associated with Trump?

    Doug001 in reply to B__2. | February 13, 2018 at 8:23 am

But which book? “Rules For Radicals” the Saul Alinsky playbook of course. It would be just like Obugger (Ophonetapper)to have code words and phrases like “by the book” to mean something other than what it normally would, just like any leftist when they speak (or write) they never tell the truth.

She was tying a cast-iron frying pan to her butt. CYA.

rabidfox in reply to Ragspierre. | February 14, 2018 at 12:02 am

Which raises the question: Why would she highlight the need for such a CYA to start with over the whole Trump investigation thing?

I wonder what the timeline is/was for Comey to report backing being that the meeting took place on Jan 5 and was two weeks prior to inauguration. From the text it plainly shows direction and an indication for law enforcement/intelligence to not fully cooperation in the transformation of power. This is typically called something, hmm….

I believe the word you are looking for is treason. And I would love to know how many other meetings that she wrote herself emails about. Making sure to say how much her boss wanted to do things “by the book”. Perhaps this was something new, doing things by the book, and it surprised her so much she had to email herself to remind her to do it. Or she is just full of sh!t and this email is a great big piece of padded foam to CYA!

That she went out of her way to include President Obama’s insistence on a “by the book” investigation is also a bit…odd.

Well, “I am not a crook” is so passé.

CaliforniaJimbo | February 12, 2018 at 9:52 pm

Does “by the book” refer to rules for radicals?

Well, at least the email didn’t blame that guy making a Mohammed video again.

I’m sure Mz Rice is perfectly above board and by the book, just like she was with the video explanation. She was just worried about alzhiemer’s setting in early for herself, so she didn’t want to forget the important, by the book, facts as laid out by Duh One.

I can’t believe anyone would question such an odd email, after all she and that whole regime were the most scandal free, more transparent, most perfect regime in the history of the world. She is just a paragon of virtue and truth, so we can trust her to have recorded nothing but the facts in that video… errr… email.

If there was ever any doubt about the intellect of the obama team this is the Pulitzer prize! This is so immature and childlike to think that anyone would not see through it at once. It is embarrassing to read such drivel but then again look at the source. She lied many times on national TV and to this day has never admitted it.

Subject: Poe’s Law & a totally unexpected result of visit to Rick’s Café Américain
Susan,
I am completely shocked, I say shocked, to discover gambling going on within the premises of Rick’s Café Américain today. I was visiting the café today to purchase and enjoy a spiced Moroccan coffee in this peaceful Shari’a-compliant premises, and one thing suddenly caught my eye. There seemed to be some form of gambling going on. I watched for a few minutes, verifying that some form of gambling did seem to be occurring. My appearing to pocket some winnings was obviously my ploy to be able to testify in court that I had personal experience in the nefarious law breaking suddenly uncovered. I will talk to Rick and remind him that everything has to be done “by the book”. I’m sure that Rick will readily admit to a complete deception of me to fully explain my earlier innocent inaction. As always I am going to work by the book at all times.
I haven’t detected any alcohol sale or consumption either and this was done also by the book. A lengthy questioning of the bartender uncovered no evidence or confession of contact with alcohol.
Susan.
P.S. Talk with Rick and get him to supply ‘refunds’ on the coffee overpayment in a brown envelope to lower the risk of robbers seeing the cash change hands and planning to rob me.

That sort of resembles the “fake but accurate” memos George Bush’s Air Guard C.O. was writing to cover his reasons for allowing George to be A.W.O.L.

How many emails-to-self has Susan Rice regularly utilized as part of her daily record keeping. In addition to the Clinton/FBI/DOJ/DNC Russia/FISA Scandal how about Rice’s emails-to-self regarding Benghazi are we to find?

The DOJ & FBI leadership needs to be investigated along with the members of the former Obama administration. It is high time that we finally give the American people the answer to the lingering question as to waterboarding. Does waterboarding work or not.

You nailed it Paul. Somebody should search her emails to see how many times she has emailed herself and the nature of those emails. That’s the smoking gun. Emailing a grocery list to your own email is one thing, CYBA is another (covering your boss’ (god’s) ass is another.

This was done to make sure that it was found. My question is, why did he have to insist that this investigation should be done “by the book” this late in the game? Shouldn’t he have said this 8 months earlier? The only reason to document it at that point was because they all knew that it hadn’t been by the book and this was a last ditch effort to claim that it was rogue agents or something violating their direct orders from everyone in the Oval Office that day.

I guess at that high eschelon, “By the book” is not implied and they must be ordered by Obama to do it proper?
Or is it a sales pitch to “Buy the book” and whose book 😉

Bitterlyclinging | February 13, 2018 at 6:00 am

Buraq Hussein Obama, who learned his political skills at the feet of the disciples of Johnny Torio, ‘Bugsy’ Moran, and Al Capone, comported himself “By the book”?

‘By the book’ – which book? ‘Rules for Radicals”?

“I want you to do it by the book, Comey!”

Wink, wink, nudge, nudge, say no more!

Rice will dodge this easily.

Important meeting. Many people will write a memorandum for the record right after the meeting to ensure the main points are captured.

That will be her story and she’ll stick to it.

Heck, might also be true. Of course, many times the most important things in a meeting are those that are NOT documented.

Poor little Susan Rice. She’s the dorky little sister who will do anything to hang with her big brother’s friends. They use her to mop up their vomit and she says, Thank You! Did I do a good job?

It is very common in business to write memo’s to the file or to yourself when you need to document events when that event might have future issues develop surrounding that event. So from that perspective, I dont find the CYA memo unusual.

However what I do find odd is:
1) the CYA memo is written on the .gov email so that others could find it, not for her future reference
2) The style of writing was for a memo to be read by a general audience, instead of to herself for her future reference.

As Paul said above, how many other times did she document meetings in this manner? Comey did it as Word documents. Why this time, did Rice choose government email? Notice that it is also written in a manner that could be released completely in-redacted. Lastly, most to all notes on Oval Office meetings are covered by a special level of privilege, something Obama used many times to protect potentially damaging information like Benghazi and Hillary. The second search should include how many times did notes from Obama’s inner circle end up on the government email system? I’m guessing never.

      Joe-dallas in reply to DanJ1. | February 13, 2018 at 10:37 am

Concur – The grammar doesnt match the typical notes taken in a meeting, the grammar doesnt match the typical email language, nor does the grammar match the typical CYA language.

As you noted, the language is written in a manner to allows it to be completely un-redacted which is also inconsistent with most meetings with the president.

        Joe-dallas in reply to Joe-dallas. | February 13, 2018 at 12:13 pm

In summary – the email memo appears quite circumspect.

The CYA memo is similar to the Killian memo – language written to the general audience and not to the authors personal file for later reference. That was one of the obvious clues the killian/bush national guard memos were fake. Rice’s email, while having been written by her, is conveying false information/narrative.

      Joe-dallas in reply to DanJ1. | February 14, 2018 at 12:01 pm

Powerlineblog.com is reporting that a portion of the email was redacted.

One thing that is starting to become crystal clear is that these people knew that if Donald Trump, instead of Hillary Clinton took office, was that they were in VERY serious jeopardy.

    Matt_SE in reply to elle. | February 13, 2018 at 6:50 pm

And yet Sessionszzzzz hasn’t prosecuted any of them. There’s no hint that he’s even started investigating any of them. The fix is in, yet again.

Rule #1 : Everything before the “but” is crap.

In this case, the ‘but’ is “From a national security perspective, however…” (Notice the ‘but’ covering there.)

In fact, there’s a lot of ‘but’ covering here, from the “If I go, you’re going with me” listing of names at the top to the totally artificial robot-like presentation of the outgoing president’s talking points in the “I’m not saying Trump conspired with Russia, wink, wink, so I just want you all to do your duty to the country in regards to the laws that I’m not saying he broke, wink, wink.”

Remember, this email was *sent* not only after Obama was most certainly not going to pardon Hillary, but not going to pardon Rice for any of the unmasking she had done on the incoming administration. That calls for serious ‘but’ covering. And shredding. And little off the record meetings with others involved where you make sure your stories match and you pay for the restaurant tab in cash.

To explain how rare it was for him to meet with the President, Comey testified under oath that he only met with Obama twice and did not document the meetings. He did testify exactly when those meetings occurred and interestingly, neither were in the Oval Office with Yates and Rice as Rice claims.

Either Comey lied under oath or Rice was confused as to who the white dude in the room was.

    Dave in reply to DanJ1. | February 13, 2018 at 11:51 am

I vote that it was the latter, that Comey lied under oath. He’s done it several times but with the much bigger charge of signing fraudulent FISA Warrant applications I think lying to Congress will be lost in the shuffle. I hope not, but maybe.

    Joe-dallas in reply to DanJ1. | February 13, 2018 at 12:15 pm

I believe he testified that he only met privately with obama twice.

I like Ace’s take on this.

“A By the Book Coup: Known Liar Susan Rice’s Two-Weeks-After-the-Fact CYA “Memorandum”

Susan Rice, known for her willingness to lie publicly to protect Obama administration/Hillary State Department narratives (see her fine work on Benghazi),
wrote an email to herself, minutes before Trump was to become president,
pretending to detail a meeting that had occurred 15 days before. She wrote the email on January 20th; she pretends to memorialize a meeting that occurred January 5th.”

“You might ask, “What was going on around January 5 that would incite such a big meeting?”

Well — a whole heck of a lot, actually.

Here is some food for thought:

January 3, 2017: According to FNC, “outgoing Attorney General Loretta Lynch secretly signed an order directing the National Security Agency — America’s 60,000-person-strong domestic spying apparatus — to make available raw spying data to all other federal intelligence agencies, which then can pass it on to their counterparts in foreign countries and in the 50 states upon request.”

January 5, 2017: Meeting with Obama, Biden, Rice, Yates, Comey according to Rice’s email to herself.

January 10, 2017: Jim Sciutto, Jake Tapper, Evan Perez and Carl Bernstein broke the story in the WaPo that allowed the dossier to go public.”

    IBIB.

Just…just wanted to get this out to me so I’d remember how everything was above board and there wasn’t anything to see here, so please move along and accept my “get out of jail card free” to myself, er, my email to myself. Ok, and please don’t forget to respect my privacy.

So… which of the e-mail addressesd were ownened by the US Citizens?
Which ones were private.

“Alright youse guys , this time we do it by the book ”
Incredulous shocked blank stares ,followed by the furrowed brow that indicates the mind trying to remember how to actually do it by the book.
