Unconditional surrender by Democrats is the only acceptable outcome to the #SchumerShutdown

Unconditional surrender by Democrats is the only acceptable outcome to the #SchumerShutdown

“‘The Democrats shut down the government to protect illegal immigrants’ is a political loser”

As this post goes live, there are lots of rumors of some sort of “deal” between Democrat and Republican “moderates” to end the government funding impasse.

The Democrats, and particularly Chuck Schumer, have talked themselves into a dead end of seeming to put the interests of illegal aliens ahead of U.S. citizens. That’s not a viable political strategy, but it’s the strategy Democrats chose by making continued government funding contingent on a DACA deal.

Democrat strategy not only mixes issues, it mixes time frames. Funding is needed now, but DACA does not expire until March (and probably later, since a federal court order has halted the termination, and it may be months before the appeals and Supreme Court reverse that injunction).

Democrats putting illegal aliens ahead of citizens is a message Republicans have been pushing effectively, which is quite surprising because Republicans usually are the stupid party when it comes to messaging.

https://twitter.com/SenateMajLdr/status/954784515486044162

While Mitch McConnell is not the most effervescent speaker, his deadpan delivery has been pitch perfect this time.

The White House also has been unusually on message: No negotiation on DACA or immigration until the Democrats stop the funding filibuster.  No negotiation with those who take American citizens hostage.

Trump tweeted: “Democrats are holding our Military hostage over their desire to have unchecked illegal immigration. Can’t let that happen!”

https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/954722155463430145

This has left Dems squirming, with one unnamed House Dem telling a reporter:

“The charge ‘The Democrats shut down the government to protect illegal immigrants’ is a political loser and does nothing to get us to 218.”

https://twitter.com/alweaver22/status/955141380074082309

There should be no “deal” to end the Democrat filibuster. Unconditional surrender must be the only alternative.

That surrender doesn’t have to involve — yet — any compromise by Democrats on DACA or the broader issue of immigration. That can come later. DACA is factually unrelated to the shutdown except for the fact that Democrats thought they could get concessions on DACA by blocking a funding bill.

Against this strong and potentially game changing Republican advantage comes one Lindsey Graham, continuously trying to undermine the administration. The White House finally said what needed to be said after Graham accused Stephen Miller of being the problem and an outlier on immigration:

“As long as Sen. Graham chooses to support legislation that sides with people in this country illegally and unlawfully instead of our own American citizens, we’re going nowhere. He’s been an outlier for years”

Democrats are going to have to capitulate because their position is unsustainable.

The public humiliation of Chuck Schumer from such a surrender will impact future negotiations on DACA and other issues. Letting Schumer and Democrats off the hook by allowing them to gain any advantage from the shutdown will embolden them.

“‘The Democrats shut down the government to protect illegal immigrants’ is a political loser”

DEFINITELY, when you’re a fake oath-taker, and you’re up against Donald Trump – and his immutable base.

While I agree that the Democrats should not be let off the hook, I do think that it is wise to warn against overplaying oour hand and snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

The only victory the GOPe cares about is a ‘victory’ against us (meaning, Donald Trump.)

A win-win for the GOPe is a one in which they placate the left, and we (Trump) get hurt.

So expect McConnell and company to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. And why not? – It’s not like they’re on our side.

I think it’s time for new leadership in the Senate. Mitch McConnell needs to go. Somebody make him an offer he can’t refuse, I’ll provide the horse.

The stupid look on Patty Murray’s face, behind old lying Chuck U. = priceless!

    Patty Murry’s Daydreams….

Patty: Why am I sitting here listening to Chuck yap?

I should be lying on the white sand of some south pacific beach…sipping Daiquiris, served by a muscular native waiter.

All on the taxpayers dime, of course….Oh…Yeah!!!!

The good shot at Graham is a bonus, and a long-time coming.

Republicans offering so-called dreamers a “pathway” for earning legal status could have its benefits: http://www.trevorloudon.com/2018/01/a-win-win-make-dreamers-build-that-wall/

A “pathway” to citizenship with a significant time period with a green card to insure they are not criminally inclined, not blanket amnesty! Further, their lying, conniving illegal immigrant relatives should not be given chain migration rights, either!

If you want to hear one of the funniest things you’ve ever heard call the White House Comment Line right this minute at 202-456-1111.

“Thank you for calling the White House. Unfortunately, we cannot answer your call today because congressional Democrats are holding government funding, including funding for our troops and other national security priorities, hostage to an unrelated immigration debate. Due to this obstruction, the government is shut down. In the meantime, you can leave a comment for the president at http://www.whitehouse.gov/contact. We look forward to taking your calls as soon as the government reopens.”

Boss-level trolling!

Ryan may have grown up in Wisconsin, but since college he’s resided in DC and is a certified swamp creature.

Although its a bit of a stretch to call camping on a stretcher in his taxpayer-provided office and flying back to WI every week on our Dime “residence.” … “Visiting Swamp Creature,” perhaps? And, of course, well-proven RINO!

Graham’s last term?

Have a great idea for a fundraiser, it will bring in millions:

” step right up. $1 yea I said for $1 you can punch Senator Lindsey Graham right in the face “

While i would like to think that The Dems are this stupid, I can not.

Politically, the Dems, should have pulled back, voted for the CR and brought up DACA when they could realistically claim that DACA registrants were on the verge of being deported as their waiting periods expired. They could have justified the pull back by saying that they were doing it for the children [a la CHIP] and the poor. But they did not. Why? What had changed radically enough to cause this hail Mary to be appealing? Only the Congressional memo outlining illegal surveillance of the Trump campaign.

Could the information which led up to the memo be so explosive and detrimental to the Dems that they would blow themselves up? Would shutting down the government to keep the FISA memo off the Sunday talks really be worthwhile? The answer is yes.

As the story of the illegal government surveillance of the Trump campaign comes out, it is going to involve virtually every higher up in the DOJ and FBI at the time, as well as Clapper and even BHO, and some people in the Clinton campaign and the DNC. It is going to turn out to be a Democrat scandal. But, it is also an Establishment scandal. For this reason we will see some Republicans pushing for a give away to the Dems to open the government. Politically, all the Republicans have to do is to stand pat and force the Dems to cave. If they don’t, then the fix is in. And, the ones leading the charge for “compromise” will be the Establishment quislings. DACA is only a convenient excuse, not the real reason for the Democrat action.

    You’re right on the money.

The GOPe establishment is all-in with democrats —

From Peggy Noonan, no less (while on NBC, of course:)

Peggy Noonan: Trump Is Pulling ‘New York Real Estate Moves on the American Political Scene’
    http://www.breitbart.com/video/2018/01/21/peggy-noonan-trump-pulling-new-york-real-estate-moves-american-political-scene/

It’s the democrats and the GOPe versus the rest of us. (Trump is one of ‘us.’ It’s kind of a funny thing: electing a guy and his actually remaining ‘our guy.’ Give you a lot of perspective, and goes to show us how stupid we’ve collectively been in tolerating the GOPe – at all.)

Agree completely. Wifey and I discussed it this morning and she says this is exactly what the GOPe was worried about with Trump – they give us excuses on why ex can’t be done and then Trump comes along and just does x y and z.

Makes the GOP look incompetent or corrupt ot both.

Makes us feel foolish for going along with their “we don’t control enough branches of government to do anything” nonsense.

It’s like we put up with 2 years of having a broken AC unit, and during the holidays are brother-in-law makes one phone call spins 50 bucks and in two hours we’ve got cold air blowing through the house again. Kicking ourselves.

The simple counter argument is Dens have had 6 plus months to pass a law in congress and the senate to resolve DACA…but they didn’t as playing games with people’s lives is preferred to actually doing something to improve those same lives.

Too bad the corrupt rino losers hogging the leadership positions ofthe GOP have no desire to make that, or any other argument that will win the day. They merely want to have light days and good perks- like the most corrupt, laziest union hack you can imagine.

Till mcconnell is put on the same trash heap as boehner (same with boehner clone paul ryan), dont delude yourselves of any hope the GOP isnt plotting to stab us in the back and ‘out us back in our place.’

I wouldn’t mind the shutdown lasting until the SOTU speech. Man, what a contrast Trump could point out!

“Here’s what congress and the White House were able to accomplish without democrat interference in 2017. And here’s what happened when democrats were able to exert their filibuster capability at the start of 2018. What do you want to see in 2019 and 2020? What we accomplished in 2017 or what the democrats led off with in 2018? YOU decide.”

Pass the Goodlatte bill.

Voice_of_Reason | January 22, 2018 at 7:45 am

The GOP still has to work on messaging, and get out on all the networks with a simple message. Maybe this ione.

“Democrats voted “no” on funding the government.

They previously agreed with everything in the funding bill, but still voted no.

Democrats shut down the government to support keeping illegal immigrants in America”.

No outright amnesty and the elimination of unfettered chain migration are must haves (no citizenship ever for the parents and/or relatives who brought the Dreamers here), along with the wall and increased border security.

The wall is key, because it’s already proven to work in Arizona where it’s been designed and installed correctly. It can’t be put everywhere, such as in mountainous areas, but once installed CBP can shut off everything else more effectively.

lc in reply to Dave. | January 22, 2018 at 8:37 am

    Add E-verify…a must.
How long before those DACA/Dreamers would likely vote other than dem? Decades, so we should be concerned about granting citizenship early on, no?

Democrats would rather risk political suicide than let up on their fanatical obsession to bring down
Trump.

Democrats are caught between two suicides. They need to import new Slaves to get their majority back. Their future depends on how many illegal immigrants they can bring in and make dependent on welfare programs.

How smart can the Democrats be? They try to play hardball with a businessman who negotiates real estate deals in New York City. They’ve been dealing with a GOP that rolls over and dies, but now they’re poking the Hulk with sticks and expecting the same results?

I especially like trumps position – no negotiation on any deal held hostage. He’s not going to give anything on DACA until the budget is in place and the wall has been approved and funded.

We do not negotiate with terrorists

Put that on a billboard, plastered over Schumer’s weasel face

As for the GOP I want to see two reforms

1) no more Omnibus spending bills. No more being held hostage to the concept of ” approve the purchase of a new Corvette along with this month’s mortgage payment, or we get kicked out of the house”. It has to end.

2) I’m tired of the fake civility in the filibuster go back to a 50 vote majority in the Senate. If Mitch wants to give Schumer a blowjob he can do it on his own time.

Disco Stu_ in reply to Fen. | January 22, 2018 at 11:11 am

I propose returning to the original actual speaking-filibuster, but with some generous time limits attached.

Once a bill is final, & amended, and ready to be voted on, allow each Senator up to 2 hours of control of the floor each for “debate”. Blather on as necessary, possibly even with substantial points of argument. Try to persuade if they can.

Has to be consecutive running time once begun, though. So if a minority of 49 wants to delay passage (or perhaps even persuade their colleagues) at 2 hours each, that’s 98 hours of minority discussion maximum. About 4 days.

Then: Okay, you’ve had plenty of opportunity to (repeatedly) many any points of substance you’re trying to make. Now we’re going to vote. With a simple majority prevailing.

I see Rag is still nursing his passive-aggressive vodka grudge.

Wasn’t it just a week ago he was laughing that Trump had sold us out on the wall? It’s going to be fun studying his deteriorating psychological condition over the next year!

I see you’re the same rightist AntiFa who loves to indulge in revenge fantasy about killing the children of your objects of hatred, such as Mueller and Hellary.

Truly a toxic and cowardly human being.

Ragspierre | January 21, 2018 at 11:19 pm

What should happen: all DREAMERS deported, or self-deported to begin the process of legal immigration.

Employment of any illegal made a crime. NO benefits to any illegal alien using ANY Federal money.

What will happen: Der Donald will sign an amnesty for DREAMERS.

There will be “Donald’s Vapor Wall”. Mexico will pay no part of it. (Remember the “remittances” bullshit? I still laugh at that one!)

There will be some progress at ending chain migration and the lottery.

There will continue to be a YUGE number of people here illegally who come from every OTHER place than south of the border.

I don’t know what happened to your original post. But, it was not totally inaccurate. It is, after all, your personal predictions of the future.

I agree that there is a good possibility that Trump would sign a bill which normalizes the status of the 700,000 DACA registrants and possibly even the estimated 1.5 million illegal aliens who would comprise the “Dreamers”. He might even grant them total amnesty and grant resident alien status, after vetting. However, I doubt that he will do that without the immigration reform points which he has put out. Remember, I have repeatedly made the point that Trump is a pragmatist, not an ideologue. He will likely make deals, which will advance his agenda of MAGA through economic stimulation, which will be at odds with some conservative ideologies. His priorities are not necessarily in direct line with ours.

Personally, I believe that chain migration will be severely limited, probably to immediate first generation direct family members [parents, spouse, children] and those will have to be heavily vetted before entry. All other family members will have to be treated like any other immigrant or will have to fall into some hardship category. This, of course, will require a protracted Congressional fight to achieve.

Mexico may never pay for the wall directly, largely as a means of saving face. But, with the repeal of NAFTA, Mexico is going to have to negotiate a new trade agreement with the US and this provides ample opportunity to install a mechanism to make Mexican interests pay for a significant portion of the costs of the wall.

As to a YUGE number illegals who entered this country through avenues other than the Southern border, I doubt that will be true. While the Canadian border is largely only a line on the map, Canada has a vested interest in controlling smuggling along that line. People are a lot harder to smuggle, successfully, than small cargoes such as drugs. And, with the end of the NAFTA provisions which allow some commercial transport vehicles to enter the US without inspection, a large smuggling loophole will be closed. Add in mandatory E-verify and increased interior enforcement and you end up with a trickle, not a flood.

It might all come to pass as you predict. Then again, it might not. But, all of this hinges on the actions of the Congress. That body will be ultimately responsible for what happens on the immigration front, not the President.

      Ragspierre in reply to Mac45. | January 22, 2018 at 9:05 pm

I don’t remember the exact numbers, but only something on the order of 40% of illegals are from south of our border. In recent years, the flow of Mexicans has actually been negative, with more returning than arriving.

      Look it up.

Actually,I believe that almost 75% of illegal immigrants are from Mexico, Central and South America, with Mexicans making up 50% of total illegal immigrants. Illegal from the other parts of the world make up about 25% of the illegal immigrant population [~3 million people].

While it is true that the estimated Mexican illegal population has fallen, maybe as much as 1 million people, increased traffic from Central and South America is offsetting that decline.

        Look it up.

          Ragspierre in reply to Mac45. | January 22, 2018 at 11:25 pm

What you “believe” is often stupidly wrong. Post some links.

One quarter is STILL a YUGE number, or do you wish to crapulate some more?

          Mac45 in reply to Mac45. | January 22, 2018 at 11:37 pm

Well, chuckles, you didn’t post any links, now did you? But, I will be the bigger man. Here is one that gives you an idea. If you want to dig up one that is more recent be my guest.

          http://www.pewhispanic.org/interactives/unauthorized-trends/

Actually 25% of 11-12 million people is only 3 MILLION people. Not really all that YUGE, when compared to 11-12 MILLION, is it?

          Ragspierre in reply to Mac45. | January 22, 2018 at 11:46 pm

“From 2009 to 2015, the number of unauthorized immigrants from Asia and Central America rose. Increases in the number from other countries have mostly offset the decline in the number from Mexico (and a relatively small decrease in the number from South America).”
          http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2017/04/27/5-facts-about-illegal-immigration-in-the-u-s/

I guess if you want to TRY to make the argument that 3 million illegals is not YUGE, you can. You seem incapable of blushing at any kind of bullshit you advocate.

It sure seems like a YUGE number to me. And a wall won’t do shit about them.

          Will it?

      Ragspierre in reply to Mac45. | January 22, 2018 at 9:16 pm

“But, with the repeal of NAFTA, Mexico is going to have to negotiate a new trade agreement with the US and this provides ample opportunity to install a mechanism to make Mexican interests pay for a significant portion of the costs of the wall.”

NAFTA won’t be “repealed”. What Der Donald (Very Stable Genius[tm]) proposes is an uncertainty machine that will hurt Americans and American businesses. Somebody who actually understands business and economics will manage this stupidity so that VSG doesn’t get too near it.

You wave vaguely in the direction of some “mechanism”. Define what you “think” that might be. Because I’ll bet you that anything you name will wind up being paid by American consumers, not Mexico or Mexicans.

We will have to see if your all=powerful mystery men will be able to stop NAFTA being rescinded. They haven’t done a very good job of controlling Trump so far.

As to the mechanism for Mexican interest paying for the wall, there are several.I’ll deal with the most easily identified first; tariffs.

Before you fly off about how tariffs hurt international trade, let me remind you of something. The USA accounts for over 25% of the market for consumer products in the ENTIRE world. The US does not need to import products from other countries in order to have everything that we have right now. It can all be produced domestically. And, if the price of commodities goes up, then wages in the US will increase to cover it. Free trade only works, across the board, if all the trading partners are equal. If one is a dominant consumer then manufacturers will move to places where manufacturing costs are cheaper and import their products into the dominant consuming nation making greater profits. However, the dominant consumer can not compete with the lower standard of living nations and so loses more manufacturing capability, thereby driving down the standard of living even more, in that country. At the same time, the standard of living in the manufacturing countries increases, making it less profitable for manufacturers in those countries. Again, manufacturing moves to less costly venues. Sooner or later the entire world economy stagnates, as all nations end up at a steady state and all are equal. And, foreign trade involves only those items which a country can not produce for itself. However, this is still a net loss for the population of the dominant consumer nation. They are now at the same second world level as the rest of the world. A state of equality means the death of the system.

          Ragspierre in reply to Mac45. | January 22, 2018 at 11:38 pm

T-rump cannot “rescend” NAFTA, you poor cultist.

A tariff would NOT be paid by Mexicans or Mexico. It WOULD be paid by American consumers.

We can produce ice-boxes and pencils, too, you moron. But we have refrigerators and computers, brought to us by the “magic” of market economics.

Your economic ignorance rivals that of your man-crush. Which is really breathtaking.

We win, they lose. That’s the plan.

what is not obvious –
our enemies such as NORK, Iran, Russiam China, Koobah,
Falashstinians are watching how our GREAT POTUS #MAGA is
conducting himself and are realizing that they can’t roll him
like they did the GOPee and D’Rats.

MaxWebXperienZ | January 22, 2018 at 12:30 pm

Republicans are learning that framing the argument = winning the argument at last. We’ve had to let the media-domineering left frame everything for decades but now with the POTUS tweeting and bypassing the media it’s different.

Saying that Graham is an outlier is an understatement. He brought us tax changes in the ’90’s that were so far to the left.. The Democrats couldn’t pull off marxist redistribution like that but a fake Republican could, and did… and Gingrich was in on it.. unreal…

Our troops must be paid, and on time. Government workers also have a reasonable expectation to be paid for their “labors”. All Americans have a right to expect full functioning of our government, not being held hostage to what is for now a criminal enterprise.
The proposed DACA recipients are present in the USA as a consequence of a criminal act by their parents. They consume enormous amounts of the resources that rightfully belong to Americans, compared to which they contribute very little (aside from a vote for the DemoRats periodically).
The citizens of the USA are under no obligation to provide anything to those designated as potential “DACA” recipients. The choice to grant them access to legalization of their presence is one that Americans make charitably, as we have done time and again when citizens were denied assistance by their own people.
I favor a legalization solution to the DACA hopefuls — but I very much resent being robbed at gunpoint by a slimy liberal Scummer.

The #SchumerShutdown quickly became the #SchumerSurrender. Although, I did see it also called the #ChuckieChoke.
