Jake Tapper cutting off Stephen Miller’s interview was not impressive

Jake Tapper cutting off Stephen Miller’s interview was not impressive

Dishes it out, but gets snide when there’s pushback: “there’s one viewer that you care about now, and you’re being obsequious”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vU7v5A5P8BM

CNN is anti-Trump 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. So anti-Trump that it has had some of the most embarrassing false reports, including:

  • The false report that James Comey would testify that he never told Trump that Trump was under investigation.
  • Three CNN journalists had to resign after a false report about a supposed investigation of a Russian investment bank with ties to Trump advisor Anthony Scaramucci.
  • The false report about Trump’s supposed fish-feeding during a visit with the Japanese Prime Minister
  • The claim that Don Jr. received advance notice from Wikileaks of the DNC hacked emails

Much of CNN’s coverage, if not outright false, is absurd Trump Derangement Syndrome, including:

  • CNN is both obsessed with Russian collusion coverage, that coverage is completely skewed with anti-Trump commentators.
  • White House correspondent Jim Acosta has become a punch line for his whiny, self-aggrandizing attempts to dominate White House press briefings.
  • When some random guy made a funny GIF about Trump tackling someone with the logo of CNN placed over the face of the victim, and Trump retweeted it, CNN tracked the person down and threatened to DOXX him if he did it again.
  • Chris Cuomo is on a holy Jihad to demean Trump supporters at every opportunity
  • The “scoop” that Donald Trump supposedly gets two scoops of ice cream while everyone else gets only one.
  • In depth reporting on Trump’s Diet Coke drinking habits.
  • The multi-day fixation on a white truck that blocked its cameraman from filming Trump golfing.

CNN anchors tend to get very testy as soon as there is pushback, particularly from White House officials:

These list are by no means exhaustive. CNN in some ways is worse than MSNBC. At least with MSNBC there’s truth in advertising – they hate Trump, they admit it, and it’s what draws the readership. CNN is annoying because it presents the “fake” pretense of objectivity and real journalism.

Perhaps because of this false facade of journalism, CNN has been a particular target of Trump’s tweeting about “fake” news.

Against this portrait of CNN as part of #TheResistance stands Jake Tapper. Alone among CNN anchors, he seems to really want to be a neutral journalist, and he is willing to go against the CNN grain.

Which is why this segment with Trump advisor Stephen Miller was so disappointing. Both Tapper and Miller had agendas coming into the segment, both related to the Bannon dispute and the book by Michael Wolff that is of questionable veracity.

Miller wanted to present a view of Trump not often heard on CNN, and Tapper wanted to portray Trump pretty much as portrayed in the book. I don’t begrudge either of them, but Tapper’s response was to shut off the interview when Miller was noncompliant.

Hey, it’s Tapper’s show, he can cut the mic if he wants, but it didn’t reflect well on him. Tapper came across as snide and petty when he not only cut off the interview, he said “there’s one viewer that you care about now, and you’re being obsequious,” meaning Trump.

As if to prove the point, CNN put out this clip of the moment, when Tapper tells Miller to settle down:

But this more complete clip shows that Miller got the better of Tapper and Tapper’s reaction was out of frustration that Tapper’s agenda could not be accomplished.

Jake Tapper truly bled his colors when dismissing Stephen Miller. Incredible how CNN shows how liberal and discriminative they are when inviting a White House staffer to be interviewed, only to abruptly dismiss him due to his (Jake Tapper’s) utter obvious disdain of President Trump. Please understand that I am not necessarily a huge fan of Trump either. What I am a fan of is fairness in journalistic reporting. Tapper unfortunately left his journalistic credentials at the door before interviewing Miller? Unbelievable.

A magnificent 5 seconds or so begins around 7:04 into the interview (in the 12:30 or so minute version on GateWay Pundit). Miller asks Tapper for 3 minutes to tell the truth as he knows it and Tapper says No because “it is my show and I don’t want to do that” (or words to that effect).
It is a glorious few seconds.

It is the same CNN segment as above.

artichoke in reply to Rick. | January 8, 2018 at 8:25 am

That amazing moment is in both clips. Miller got the better of Tapper in both clips. It’s a matter of CNN’s delusion that they don’t even realize.

“It’s my show and I don’t want to do that”!? That’s not journalism.

Trump should play that moment over and over again and cut off CNN. It should be the moment that CNN DIED.

“…the book by Michael Wollf that is of questionable veracity.”

Every time I see this guy’s name spelled, it changes! I haven’t seen this since Curt Cobain Kurt Cobain Kurt Kobaine…etc.

Jake wants salacious gossip, fine.

How much money did Jake Tapper take in bribes from Fusion GPS?

How many interns has Jake Tapper groped in the last decade?

I heard $200k and 14.

Gossip.

Dave in reply to Fen. | January 7, 2018 at 9:00 pm

I hope he was one that took money from Fusion GPS and it comes out. He’ll be destroyed. You know David Ignatius and Michael Isikoff did.

Interesting. An anonymous source says rumors swirling around at CNN are $250k and 4. But my exclusive anonymous source at TIME-WARNER says $150k and only 3.

Miller was great, but something was wrong with his eyelids. I wonder if he had taken Ambien and it hadn’t worn off….

As for Tapper, I don’t get him. He appears intelligent. How could an intelligent man have any self-respect doing what he does. Only a moment of self-reflection would. .. . . . .

I don’t get all this ” I like Trapper, but…” Trapper is trash news and I have never him produce a decent news piece yet.

When he was more of a reporter and journalist he was a good read. A good deal of his reporting for ABC was balanced and factual. He changed slightly when he became a television personality/anchor. And since his network took sides so early in the 2016 election sometime in 2015, he acts more like a hack too often for me.

Mark, it’s because conservatives are masochists, they believe they have it coming.

As an experiment – there will come a day when Rags attempts to make nice to all the conservatives he’s insulted here day in and day out.

They will fall all over each other accepting his apology shaking hands begging to do his geology paper for him.

You think I jest, just wait and watch.

    You’ve lost your marbles.

Its not that they think they have it coming: they think they’re dealing with rational, honest people instead of corrupt lunatics, and/or their paid whores.

Nevel Chamberlain lives on in many a conservative.

Ragspierre in reply to Fen. | January 8, 2018 at 4:05 am

I very much doubt I’ve offended any “conservative”.

You, for instance, are not any kind of conservative. Witness…

    1. you’ll break the plate-glass doors of RadioShack (!!!) for some offense you imagine

    2. you threaten the children of Mueller with violence

    3. you threaten to kill officials if someone commits a crime…or even an accident…against you or yours

You’re just another rightest nutter. That is NOT being a “conservative”.

Neither is being a constant liar and character assassin. But, hey, T-rump suckers gotta suck.

kenoshamarge in reply to Fen. | January 8, 2018 at 10:27 am

Your constant swipes at Rags is both juvinile and unattrative. He has as much right to his opinion as you do. Sometimes I agree with him and sometimes I don’t. Same with you, sometimes I agree and sometimes I don’t. When I don’t I am adult enough to simply move on. These childish attacks are silly.

When I run for president I want Miller on my side.

It really is time to move on from these people, same as we have from the NFL and hollywood.

This ‘gotcha’ proganda shouldnt be dignified with our presence. Same with these b.s. daily ‘press briefings.’ These people are at war with us – we have to act like it.

Btw the way, spreaking of big, fat and ignorant: oprah winfrey wants to run for president. (We still havent finished thanking her for obama.)

Imagine oprah winfrey versus north korea?

Starve the alt-reality cult.

    Ragspierre in reply to TheFineReport.com. | January 8, 2018 at 4:10 am

That OTHER time T-rump ran for POTUS (his lie today nothwithstanding) as a Reform candidate, he want Oprah as his VP.

You should look up his other picks for cabinet posts. No surprise to me, but then I have listened to the man.

    Heh…!!!

Listen, Mr. Alt-reality: look at Trump’s record. Then debate.

If you dont behave, we’re going to have oprah sit on you. Or have moooochelle obama use your toilet – without flushing.

VaGentleman in reply to Ragspierre. | January 8, 2018 at 2:44 pm

          rags,
If all conservatives had followed your advice and not voted for either one on Nov 8, what would be different and how would it be better?

Ragspierre in reply to Ragspierre. | January 8, 2018 at 9:28 pm

My advice…stated many times and every time viciously attacked by the T-rumpian turd-swirl…was vote your conscience.

I voted mine. And that STILL just crawls all over you.

Rags, no one cares how you voted. Even a tiny bit. Look, nothing about you is significant enough to inspire more than an eyeroll.

Your avid anti-Trumpism is duly noted. What you have not addressed is what you propose from this actual point in time forward. You hate Trump but decline to say Hillary would have been better (and I suspect in your heart of hearts, you know she’d be a million times worse). You hate Trump but to what end? Do you want him impeached and the Republican Party hobbled for decades? Do you want him out on a 25th Amendment claim? This would set a precedent that anyone who differs from the progressive norm must be insane. Is that what you want, Rags? All future presidents’ sanity weighed against how much they agree with and push a progressive-commie agenda?

What, Rags, do you want from this point in time? Not before Trump won the nomination, not before Trump won the presidency, but right now.

If you have nothing to offer, then nothing you have to say is of the least interest. Blah blah, if only, blah blah, it should have been different, blah, blah, it didn’t happen how I wanted it. So. The. Hell. What.

Deal in now, deal in reality. What do you think needs to be done about Trump? State it. If you have nothing to say about the present or the future, you’re just a distant memory.

You’re a silly little man. Rags. No one actually cares how you voted, the point they are making is that your unwillingness to support Trump would have landed us with Hillary. That would be better how?

I’m a liar because I haven’t memorized whatever kernels of wisdom you embed in your hateful tirades? Shrug, okay, so be it. Truth be told, I no longer bother to read every word of your comments and can barely stand to skim them, so if I miss something, shrug, I guess I’m a liar by your loose standards of lying (which apparently means not having memorized your every word in the LI comment section). Yawn.

To what end do I hate Hillary and Bannon? To the end that I will do what I can to reveal their true colors and ensure they are never again in a position of power. Neither, however, is president. Railing against Trump, our duly-elected sitting president, accomplishes what? Of course you have no answer because all you do it bitch and moan about what might have been. With zero input about what can be.

Here’s what I hear in your stuck-in-the-past whining: This is you, sitting in your rocker on your porch and griping about how kids used to stay off your lawn. These kids today, so disrespectful and awful. Traipsing across my lawn even when I shake my walker at them and tell them to clear off. The bah-stids! Grumble grumble. I said way back in ’68 we were creating lawn traipsing monsters! I said it!!! I said it and I meant it and now it’s real. Look at the lawn-traipsing!! Moan, moan. Grumble, grumble.

Keep bleating about yesterday, and reap whatever reward you get from that. In the meantime, you have never provided a way forward, and indeed from what I gleaned by skimming your comment, you still don’t. Trump has a past, present, and future, you say. What the hell does that have to do with what I said? Of course he does, we all do.

One thing we all know about the past is that it cannot be rewritten or undone. Trump won. He’s president. That’s fact. You don’t seem to grasp that, or if you do, have nothing to offer beyond “T-rump sucks.” Don’t you see how shallow and ridiculous that is? Trump sucks. Okay. NOW what? Blah blah, Trump has a past, blah, blah present. You’re unreachable in your hate. It’s so sad.

VaGentleman in reply to Ragspierre. | January 10, 2018 at 7:04 am

          rags rote:
My advice…stated many times and every time viciously attacked by the T-rumpian turd-swirl…was vote your conscience.

You said it, but you didn’t mean it. The moment we voted our conscience and elected Trump, you explained that what you really meant was that we should vote YOUR conscience. You began an immediate and unremitting attack on the integrity, intelligence and character of Trump and his supporters. Your attacks are vicious, foul mouthed and personal. Having told us to vote our conscience, you won’t respect our right to do so. You don’t just say we are wrong, you claim we are sell outs. You don’t just disagree, you deliberately work hard at being disagreeable. The only way to satisfy you is to agree with you. That’s what makes your statement a lie. ‘Vote your conscience’ was not an expression of your respect for freedom of thought (you don’t respect it), but rather an attempt to justify Cruz’s failure to pledge support to Trump after losing the nomination to him. It was manipulative then and it is an attempt at deflection now.

Elections are not about the absolute desirability of candidates. If neither one scores 80 out of 100 on the desirable scale, we don’t cancel the election. A choice WILL be made regardless.

The question was and still is (and it was and still is a valid question):
If all conservatives had followed your advice and not voted for either one on Nov 8, what would be different and why would that be better?

Was your method better than ours? You claim it was – prove it was.

Oh, I understand. But, if you are only attacking the cult, why are your attacks ALWAYS so personal?

          rags,
thanks for proving my point. Your reply is just another foul mouthed, vicious attack where you claim that you are the victim – BS. Your inability to reason and act as an adult speaks volumes. You constantly insult prof’s tolerance of expression with your outrageous treatment of his other guests. Your constant use of personal, scatological, sexual and misogynistic insults destroys respect for you as an intelligent and moral man, yet you persist. You seem to think that insulting people and cursing them somehow wins arguments. You throw the word ‘liar’ about as a farmer scatters seed. And then you complain when someone criticizes you. Please! You’ve poked a lot of lions on LI – some of them are going to bite you when they can. You won’t shut up, so could you please grow up and accept responsibility for a condition that you created?

BTW, my question still stands, unanswered.

Commenting on a blog is not “push back,” Rags. Screeching insults at other people who comment on a blog is not “push back,” Rags. Why don’t you direct your “push back” efforts toward people who have the power to affect change: your congressman (or woman), your Senator, your President, and even to Congressional leadership? Blow off your steam telling them what lying cultish liars and evil insane people they are. You seem to think that’s effective, so why not apply it to those who can actually do something about your complaints?

Why don’t you organize a group of like-minded people in your community and brainstorm ways to make an actual difference, set up protests, email or phone campaigns, consider boycotts or buycotts, volunteer for the campaigns of those you deem worthy of your support (phone banks, canvassing, driving people to the polls–I’ve done all of that, and it’s not hard).

Figure out what you DO like and DO want and start pushing for that instead of the constant, irrational tilting at windmills and howling into the wind in comments that you seem to prefer, apparently having elevated in your own mind your rudeness and irrationality to some level of “push back” that it does not–and cannot–merit. You’ll be happier. And so will we.

Well, holding her up to the T-rump “genius”, she does pretty well…

      1. she actually IS a “self-made” rich person, whereas T-rump would have more money if he’d just managed daddy’s bequest to him conservatively, and there would not be a raft of ruined contractors, associates, and investors in his wake.

      2. she did make herself a star on TV.

      3. winning the presidency on his SECOND try is Der Donald’s claim that The Oprah can’t match…yet.

I wouldn’t vote for her, but many Americans would.

The moment Jake Tapper told a presidential advisor to calm down (incredibly insulting), then said he didn’t want to allow time for the presidential advisor to present his side …

Is the moment that people should remember forever. Jake Tapper is not a journalist. No journalist would think of doing that.

See, this is so interesting to me. EVERY conservative who has a program would do EXACTLY the same thing, without exception. Radio, TV, podcast…whatever.

You have a toady who was given talking points and told how to act doing his employer’s bidding, and being a total asshole in the bargain, and somehow Tapper should give him MORE air-time?

Wow. So many have lost any sense of equilibrium. Maybe it’s the effect of an echo chamber like this one…

LOL, you really need to look in you mirror.

      Mac45 in reply to Ragspierre. | January 8, 2018 at 5:51 pm

Jake tapper is identified as an American journalist and is the chief Washington Correspondent for CNN. This is a journalistic position which makes him a reporter. Now he is free to be a partisan political commentator, such as Hannity, Ingraham, and Carlson. None of these people identify themselves, or are identified as being journalists. So, tapper has to decide which he wants to be, he can not wear two hats, because it invariably become too difficult to tell which hat he is wearing at any one time; objective reporter or partisan commentator.

To be fair to Tapper, the current state of journalism seem to be an abandonment of the principle of unbiased reporting. But, Tapper is still neither fish nor foul.

“Alone among CNN anchors, he seems to really want to be a neutral journalist…”

That must be pre-Trump ancient history. It’s something I’ve never seen or gleened from Trapper. But then, I’ve only paid any attention to anything at all on the Commie News Network since they’ve become all anti-Trump all the time. So I guess Trump really is boosting their ratings.

“Tapper came across as snide and petty …”

As far as I can tell, that’s pretty much his MO now.

“Miller wanted to present a view of Trump not often heard on CNN, and Tapper wanted to portray Trump pretty much as portrayed in the book. I don’t begrudge either of them, but Tapper’s response was to shut off the interview when Miller was noncompliant.”

I’m sorry to have to disagree with you here, but Tapper is supposed to be a member of the press. His job is to locate information [evidence] and [resent it in a comprehensive manner. He is supposed to be objective, just like a LEO. His job is not to prosecute a position or idea, like an attorney. Miller, on the other hand was functioning as a defense attorney. He acted in accordance with that position by being a partisan advocate for his client, Trump. So, I can, and due, totally begrudge Tapper his actions in the interview as long as he continues to present himself as a journalist. If he wishes to portray himself as a partisan talk show host, that is another matter. But, he can not have it both ways.

I would die if Trump kicked all CNN reporters from the press pool and at events. Bar them until Jake Fusion GPS does a groveling apology tour.

I’m still trying to figure out why you expect to be taken seriously while referring to POTUS as T-rump.
