Trump Disappoints Liberals, Says Not Firing Mueller

Liberals had planned to “take the streets”

Rumors have been swirling in Washington for days that Trump is planning to fire Robert Mueller before Christmas. Democrats have been stirring their base by advancing this narrative.

One easily gets the sense that the left wants Trump to do it. It would give them something new and fresh to be outraged about. Too bad for them.

Politico reports:

Trump says he is not considering firing Mueller

President Donald Trump said on Sunday he is not considering firing special counsel Robert Mueller.

“No, I’m not,” Trump told reporters, when asked if he intended to fire Mueller. The president was returning to the White House from a weekend at the Camp David presidential retreat.

Washington has been abuzz with speculation about Mueller’s future probing Russia’s interference in the 2016 election and whether any Trump associates were involved. Trump has maintained there was no collusion with Moscow and has called the investigation a “witch hunt.”

Here’s the video of Trump’s remarks:

It looks like the left’s plan to “take the streets” will have to be put on hold for now.

This is Obama’s former White House ethics chief:

They wanted Trump to do this. He didn’t take the bait.

One of these days the Left will “take to the streets” one time too many. The streets may be the last place many of them ever take to, above ground.

as if a pack of old white rich liberals could actually “take to the streets”. I guess this was why they were grooming antifa, but they seem to have gone quiet the last few months. I think their financiers started to realize they were hurting “the cause”, not helping.

UnCivilServant | December 18, 2017 at 9:05 am

Why would he fire him, Mueller is doing a wonderful job of exposing the misdeeds of the Mueller team…

Who cares if the take to the streets? They have been doing that since Hillary lost. Mueller should never have been appointed, let alone allowed to continue this out of control witch hunt.

Even the voices in their heads have lost their minds.

So all those hyperbolic “taking to the streets” rhetoric was just the usual liberal silliness.

Although I suspect that most would do nothing more than “take to their keyboards.”

they are getting the finger nerve damage from keyboard fatigue.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the rumors that TRUMP was going to fire Mueller this week not only originated from the WH but were designed as a windup for the opposition.

IMO they were TRUMP TROLLED – Again

What you suggest says two things I’ve long suspected:

    1. T-rump is the Leaker-In-Chief, and

    2. he is the source of much “fake news”.

I’ve long known what others only suspected, you’re just another left wing nut.

Barry: Rags is not a left-wing nut.

He IS a purist, though, and he has a particular view on individual psychology due to his law practice. Many of the “Never Trump” movement share the view, and while cynical, it’s not necessarily wrong.

The view is that people tend not to change, and they behave consistently over time.

In that mindset, President Trump’s statements prior to the Presidential campaign and past actions are generally a poor fit for what we would expect in a “Conservative” President. He supported a LOT of NeoLiberal-Progressive-Marxist causes, and praised a lot of Marxist/Leninist “leaders.” He used “big government” to enable him to the detriment of “fair” competition (but, business ISN’T fair). For a long period, he was badly behaved, boorish, a tyrant, a bully, and while reasonably successful in business, he stomped on a LOT of toes and “little guys” to get there.

However, what we’ve generally seen so far is at least reasonably Republican ideals pushed (if not exclusively so), good movement on re-tasking the Judiciary with (relatively) young Constitutional, Textual Conservatives (which I think will be President Trump’s TRUE legacy, likely for 25-40 years), and the rollback of the Federal Regulatory apparatus.

The recent scrubbing of the Administration to move toward establishment types at the expense of the populists that got Trump elected makes me grumpy, because the Populists (Bannon et al) were the ones really making sure promises got kept.

I was agnostic on the Trump Presidency during the campaign, with a “wait and see” attitude. So far, I’ve been reasonably pleased with the results (although there HAVE been avoidable failures):

        – PPACA should have been an easy repeal, but was insufficiently supported by the Administration because they didn’t simply say “repeal first” and we’ll deal with the fallout later.

        – DREAMERS should have been kicked to the curb on day one. No extensions, ICE should have been directed to immediately send a letter to each DACA individual a notice that they had 8 weeks to tie up their affairs and depart to their country of origin, otherwise qualify to remain in the United States, or be deported. Letting it sit this long has made it a 2018 campaign issue, where it could have been dead by May 2017.

        – The Tax legislation leaves a LOT to be desired. It’s a good START. Getting rid of the “Individual Mandate” from PPACA is critical promise-keeping. We’ll see if it passes, but it being held hostage to this late date makes me think that it may well fail by Murkowski or Snowe pulling a “liberal” at the last second now that McCain likely isn’t coming back, definitely this year, and my guess is not at all (good bye and good riddance).

        – Jerusalem recognized as Israel’s capital and the Embassy move, now finally announced and in progress, took far longer than they should have. But I’ll still count this one as a promise kept.

The long and short of it is that a lot of the “purist” Conservatives have this “we should have a better candidate” approach, and should demand MORE from our leaders in terms of their personalities and pasts. It’s not wrong, but it does suffer from the “don’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good” thinking.

Sorry Chuck, but if it walks like a prog and quacks like a prog, it’s a prog.

I know multiple people that do not like Trump, but are not deranged about it.
They can at least acknowledge the plain truth, they’re assessment was wrong.

If you always take the side of the progs, then you are a prog. I don’t give a damn if you call yourself a person of character and spout off a few conservative shibboleths occasionally.

Raggsy is always on the prog side. Deranged, prog at heart, doesn’t matter.

          (Grumble, grumble)…. Collins… Not Snowe (2011-2012 called and it want’s it’s Congress back…).

Butt-hurt Barri is one of a cadre of liars here whose main thrust in posting is “get Rags”.

He knows that what he posts isn’t simply a pack of lies, but it’s a pack of facially stupid lies (“Gloria Allred is Rag’s hero”).

He risibly calls me a “Prog” because I take positions, or raise questions, opposite his GroupThink. Which is particularly funny, since his GroupThink is often supportive of progressivism.

But, as I noted, he’s not only a liar, but a remarkably stupid liar.

“Trolling the press” is also manipulating the public.

      That is not OK.

mailman in reply to Ragspierre. | December 18, 2017 at 11:15 am

Well then you should demand that the media stops doing it.

Every president in modern history has ‘trolled’ the press in one way or another. The closest parallel I can find to Trump’s press relationship is George W Bush, who would go out and say something only to have the press go bonkers and scream like howler monkeys. The thing is Trump doesn’t lay down and take it like W. He points out the screaming howler monkeys and laughs at them, which only makes the idiots scream louder.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. If the press would actually *do their jobs* and report actual news from the Trump administration instead of wailing and flapping their arms like spoiled children, it would suck all the air out of his sails. They fail to see their actions are causing their own disgrace, a bad case of Dunning-Kruger in the making.

I don’t know about that, Rags. Trolling the Press is just fine with me.

The press is not going to report in an unbiased manner anyway. That ship sailed with the Reagan Administration. We saw it for 8 years directly with the Bush 43 Administration. Remember “fake but accurate” and the presentation of forged documents as real in order to damage a sitting President.

Feeding the press false information so that they lose even more credibility when their doom and gloom doesn’t come to pass seems like a free opportunity to damage them further. I’m ALL for acting to make the press look like the spoiled children throwing a tantrum that they’ve been for the last 14 months.

    ….maybe that should be….

TRUMP RICK ROLLED THEM AGAIN!!!!!!! LOL

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rickrolling

Many Presidents become increasingly morose as their terms wear on. Toward the end they may even hide away from the job, holed up in a small office (smaller than the Oval Office) and letting their chiefs of staff fend off the real world.

Consider LBJ padding out in the early AM in his bathrobe and slippers, taking the latest casualty lists and shuffling back to his bedroom without saying a word.

Some seem to age physically, even grotesquely—see Lincoln’s photographic portraits for the outstanding example.

But a few Presidents—Teddy R, maybe Truman—really seemed to enjoy it.

I strongly suspect Donald J. Trump is having the time of his life.

may DJT go from strength to strength.

Psalm 84:7. They go from strength to strength — The farther they travel onward in that way, instead of being faint and weary, as travellers in such cases are wont to be, they grow stronger and stronger, being greatly refreshed with the comfortable end of their journey, expressed in the following words. Or, they go from …

You DID notice that this whole thread is about T-rump, right?

Trump is preparing a decapitating strike on the FBI. But, he will wait until the investigation is done.

His address the graduates of the FBI Academy was a deliberate move to reassure the Agents that he is with them. So, they won’t panic when he removes all these lawbreakers heading the Bureau.

CaliforniaJimbo | December 18, 2017 at 10:42 am

I agree with Neo. President Trump will not take any action against the Special Council until the IG investigation is released. I don’t have a magical sorting hat so I cannot say what is in there but if the IG did due diligence, an indictment against one or more of the special council’s team may help Mr. Mueller find his hat.
But hey, its almost Christmas. I hope everyone here enjoys their holiday (Whichever you celebrate). I was watching Home Alone 2 with my 7 year old and I forgot that President Trump had a cameo in the movie. Boy he looked a lot younger then.

First of all Trump cannot firer Meuller, he can only direct Sessions or Rosenstein to fire him. If they don’t he can fire them and find someone who will.

So even if Meuller were fired, Trump would be telling the truth.

I suspect Trump will not do anything on Dec 22. Why ruin holidays and start a lot of Trump/antiTrump fights over Christmas dinner. Maybe a bit later.

I also suspect that he will be more subtle, like first directing Sessions to appoint a SC to look into Fusion One and Meuller team bias/prosecutorial overreach.

So far, I only see one prog commenting. Must be a slow morning.

The whole point here is that the Russia Collusion narrative is collapsing faster than house of cards on the Titanic. The credibility of Mueller’s investigation is going the same way. Now, the legally questionable acquisition of the transition emails is pounding one of the final nails into the SC’s coffin. The Mueller SC investigation has reached its effectiveness limit. So, in order to achieve any more benefit from it, the Progs are trying to mount an orchestrated “spontaneous” demonstration against the evil Trump to save any shred of credibility for Mueller’s investigation.

The main reason for Trump, et al, to allow the Mueller investigation to continue, for awhile, is that further revelations are forthcoming. See, every one of these revelations does three things. It delegitimizes the reason for the investigation. It destroys the credibility of the investigators. And, as an added bonus, it opens up previous cases involving Clinton, and other Obama administration members, legal issues.

Trump Disappoints Liberals, Says Not Firing Mueller

Sure. If Trump says it’s so, it must be true.

Trump says he is not considering firing Mueller

This should be parsed VERY carefully. Read the subtext: President Trump did NOT say he was NOT going to fire Mueller. President Trump said he is not “considering” firing Mueller. This isn’t some “set in stone” statement that the President is or is not going to take any particular action.

Just because he’s not considering it ~right now~ does not mean that he will not take the matter up this week, or next week, or after the Inspector General report comes out.

I’m still in favor of firing Mueller and being done with it, but it looks like Mueller is going to have his investigation wrapped up in the next month or two anyway. If that is actually the case, let him be for another 60 days or so. If Mueller gets beyond that, fire him on the grounds that he’s had plenty of time to find something, and he has 1.) failed to find anything pertinent to any Russian meddling in the campaign, and 2.) that he has FAR, FAR exceeded his mandate and instructions by expanding his scope beyond the campaign, and by taking possession of transition e-mails that are are likely privileged from release by the GSA, and definitely were NOT for public consumption at this time.

Chuck, apparently, Mueller is saying that his ‘investigation’ could last for another year. He wants it to go on long enough to get the lefty base agitated for the 2018 elections.
