Authorities have identified the suspect in the New York City explosion on Monday morning as Akayed Ullah, 27. They have also called the explosion an “attempted terrorist attack.” The New York Post reported that sources said the suspect told investigators he wanted revenge:

Akayed Ullah, 27, who is believed to be from Bangladesh and was living in Brooklyn, told authorities in sum and substance from his hospital bed: “They’ve been bombing in my country and I wanted to do damage here,” sources said.

The Attack

The attack occurred in the subway station near 42nd Street and Eighth Avenue, located by Times Square. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said in a press conference that “[A]n ‘effectively low tech device’ was detonated in a subway passageway just before 7:30 a.m.”

Ullah had the device on him with Velcro and zip ties received “burns to his hands and abdomen, along with a laceration, and injured three others who were in close proximity to him.” The three victims don’t have life threatening injuries, but have “ringing in the ears and headaches.”

Witnesses have spoken out about what they saw. From The New York Post:

A 911 caller, who would only identify herself as Carmen, told The Post: “I didn’t see anything, I just heard an explosion and I ran out like everyone did to look for the nearest exit.”

“I had like a panic attack, I couldn’t breathe. My stomach started hurting,” the witness said. “I’m doing better — I’m just trying to catch a train to go back home to College Point.”

Designer Chelsea LaSalle tweeted: “holy f–k. just was stuck in a running stampede at port authority bus terminal due to bomb scare. cops EVERYWHERE.”

LaSalle followed up her tweet with another that read: “not a scare. actual explosion moments before i was about to get on the subway.”

The Suspect

Fox News continued:

An NYPD source on the scene told Fox News a device went off and there was a person strapped with a bomb. A law enforcement official also told AP police believe an explosive device was set off on a Manhattan subway platform.

Former NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton told MSNBC his sources in the department said the explosion was an “ISIS-inspired attack.” Bratton said the suspect was a man in his 20s from Bangladesh.

If the attack is confirmed to be ISIS-inspired, it would be the second ISIS-inspired attack in New York City in less than two months. An Oct. 30 terror attack killed eight people and injured 11 others after a man drove a rented truck into people walking and cycling on a bike path in Lower Manhattan.

Fox News also reported that the man is originally from Bangladesh and has been in the states for seven years. Sources told the outlet that he was inspired by ISIS and “allegedly packed the 5-inch metal pipe bomb and battery pack into the right side of his jacket, but the device exploded prematurely.” These sources also said that he “told police he made the bomb at the electrical company where he works.”

How long before some FakeNews talking head blames this on Trump for recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel?

It’s tradition. NYC and subway bombers go back a long way.

There’s little a priori reason to suspect this has any relationship to current developments elsewhere.

Cuomo declared that this was a low tech device.

This is the response of a leader!

The constant denial of Islam’s jihad against everyone who’s not Muslim gets more and more frightening.

Right, we’re being attacked on a constant basis, with the “we” being anyone not Muslim. The attacks are more widespread in Europe but that’s only because they are more Muslims there. Time after time, throughout history, we see it: more Muslims, more violence.

And this Democrat governor says we shouldn’t be concerned because what he had was just a step above a firecracker. This is truly astounding. Here we have a political-religions whose basic tenet is that jihad holy war must be waged on non-Muslims just because they’re not Muslims.

Where are our frappin’ leaders on this?

Governor Cuomo, breath a sigh of relief.

When these savages behead you, it will be with a low tech device.

Tell me again, why haven’t we ended all immigration to this country a hundred million people ago?

We don’t have enough of our own willing to suicide bomb so we need to import more?

This is America. We need no one. We can do every job here. We’re over populated as it is.

I’d be happy to pay them all to go home.

Hang on a moment, who is bombing in Bangladesh? Not the US, as far as I know.

I personally am enjoying the onrushing display of cognitive dissonance. Had anyone beside the pip bomber been physically injured it wouldn’t be funny but it’s shaping up to be high comedy.

1. The media is trying to figure out a way to blame this on Trump for recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

2. After all, various terrorists (including Erdogan) said the move crossed the Islamic world’s red lines, that Trump had “declared war on all Muslims,” and they were going to “open the gates of hell.”

3. Issuing threats to a government in order to make it change policies and then carrying out those threats is the very definition of terrorism.

4. This is over what Muslims pretend is one of their holy sites.

5. But the MSM is still trying to maintain the fiction that Islam has nothing to do with terrorism and it’s a Religion Of Peace.

6. Everyone knew exactly what the Muslims would do if Trump defied the terrorists’ extortion demands and threats of violence.

7. The MSM’s dilemma: how do they maintain the lie about how Islam is a Religion Of Peace (ROP) that “rejects all forms of violence” (according to Grand Mufti Francis of the Vatican Mosque) and still get away with blaming Trump for provoking the adherents of the ROP?

8. All the splodey heads in major media markets from L.A. to Berlin reminds me, must pick up some popcorn this afternoon.

The NPR news reader I heard reporting the story this morning Anglicized the bomber’s name as much as possible. I’m not sure “anglicized” is the right word for it, but I sure couldn’t tell he was a Muzzy from the way she said it.

Of course, I knew what she was doing.
