NICU Nurse Meets the Babies She Saved … Years Later

NICU Nurse Meets the Babies She Saved … Years Later

How love makes a difference

WARNING: You will need the Kleenex for this Kleenex ad, but it was too good not to share.

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit nurse, Renee, spends her shifts with babies that aren’t expected to make it through the day, much less on to live full, happy, healthy lives.

“These parents, they don’t get to take their babies home,” she says tearing up. “I feel like if I treat the babies like I would want somebody to treat my baby when I’m not there, that’s the most important thing.”

Not all NICU stories end in loss. Renee’s full heart and willingness to love on the frailest among us has impacted the lives of many families and children.

She was taken to a little table to watch a video, though Renee had no idea why. To her surprise, the video was a montage of grateful, tearful parents who expressed their gratitude for her demeanor and heart. But the surprises didn’t end there.

Renee’s story is another testament to the very simple fact that open, loving hearts have the ability to change the lives of countless. Every life is precious, even if it’s brief, and every single one of us thrives when loved.

Pass the Kleenex!

“babies that aren’t expected to make it through the day, much less on to live full, happy, healthy lives”

That’s. not. quite. accurate.

NICU survival rates are pretty damn good. God bless the staff in there. God bless American medicine and may it survive Obamacare. How many other places in the world can your 6 week premature child’s heart stop, get resuscitated and the nurse tell you the next day that your child had an “event” last night but she’ll be just fine?

Having had two of our three babies on apnea monitors for the first nine months of their lives, I know the fear of loss…it is overwhelming. God bless this woman, who has brought so much joy to the people facing the potential loss of their baby.

Only a very few people are born to do that job. Renee is one of them. I’m proud to say my stepsister Kim is another.

I love it when miracles come full circle.

These little ones need to be touched, caressed.

And, this video is a clarion contrast to abortion’s touch of mutilation.

Those aborted are not around to give thanks or hugs.
