Brussels terror attacks: Multiple Bombings (LIVE Updates)

Brussels terror attacks: Multiple Bombings (LIVE Updates)

Belgium under lockdown, as Prime Minister warns people to “avoid any movement”

Brussel’s, the capital of Belgium, has been rocked by a series of deadly blasts this morning.

According to latest reports, 23 people have been killed and 55 injured after explosions at three locations around the city. 13 people have reportedly been killed in the blasts at the Brussels’ Zaventem airport and 10 others at a blast near an EU building in the city.

The casualty figure are expected to rise as fresh explosions have been reported and first responders are still engaged in relief and rescue operations.  Belgian authorities closed the Airport and suspended train services.

The details are still scanty, but this could be seen as a retaliatory attacks in response to counter-terrorism raid being conducted by the Belgian Police. The timing coincides with the arrest of Salah Abdeslam, the terrorist behind November’s Paris attacks that left 130 dead. Islamic State had taken responsibility for those attacks.

Belgian officials have confirmed that the attack on Brussels Airport was carried out by a suicide bomber. German broadcaster Deutsche Welle reports:

At least 20 have died from explosions which rocked the departure hall of Brussels’ airport during rush hour on Tuesday morning. Another explosion was reported at a metro station in Brussels near European Commission buildings, leading the institution to shut down operations for safety concerns.

Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel says “what we feared has happened, we were hit by blind attacks,” at a press conference. “This is a dark moment for our nation. We need calm and solidarity,” he added.

Belgium’s prosecutor said he could not give a concrete figure at this time for the number of dead or wounded, but said that several are seriously injured in the hospitals.

15 people have now been reported killed after the Brussels Metro blast, reported public broadcaster RTBF quoting transport operator STIB.

(…)

“We are witnessing a sophisticated, well-organized and planned terrorist attack in which a cell possibly related to Najim Laachraoui, associated to [Salah] Abdeslam, might have been responsible. Their modus operandi of multiple inbound suicide commandos in combination with a geographical spread took away the flexibility in response of the Belgian authorities,” [Counter-terrorism expert, Tomas Olivier] said.

According to a France’s Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve, France has dispatched an extra 1,600 police at its borders after the reports of terrorist attacks in neighbouring Belgium. France wants to avoid the mistakes of November’s Paris attacks when one of the assailants succeeded in crossing over to Belgium after carrying out the attack.

These attacks come despite Belgium being on high alert after a shootout in the Brussels last week that led to the arrest of terrorist Salah Abdeslam. On Monday, the captured terrorist Abdeslam had told the court that further attacks were being planned in Brussels.

Despite official confirmation, sophistication and coordination of the attacks point to a well organised terrorist organisation, similar to Islamic State.

Belgium remains in a state of complete lockdown, as Belgium’s Prime Minister, Charles Michel, warned Belgians to “avoid any movement” for the time being.

The surname of the killer who was arrested on Friday, Abdeslam, means “servant of Islam.” He told police more attacks were planned.

Sammy Finkelman in reply to tarheelkate. | March 22, 2016 at 12:48 pm

It sounds like maybe now the subtext of Abdeslam’s comments wasn’t leaked.

    The subtext might have been:

You got me, but you can’t stop it.

If Belgium – if the European Union – had the death penalty, they could have told Saleh Abdeslam that if he didn’t give them the information they needed to prevent a terrorist attack, and a terrorist attack happened, he would get the death penalty (and we knew he didn’t want to die)

That’s what would have happened in the United States if an important terrorist was in the costody of the FBI.

Of course the problem is he would already be almost guaranteed the death penalty, but he could have been told that the probability that he would get the death penalty – and sooner – would be vastly increased, but that if he prevented something else, he’d be able to cite it as a mitigating circumstance, and maybe that would help him.

And also, if he was co-operating, they’d certainly postpone the start of his trial – everything would be postponed at least a few months – and while that was going on, he’d be in more comfortable prison conditions – in fact not even in a prison at all.

But they don’t use prison conditions as a bargaining chip in Europe. Not even promises of special privileges. That violates the Geneva Covention, or something.

As I predicted, these will be coming to cities all over Europe. And they are coming here.

They are simply too cheap to pull off, and too effective in spreading terror into pluralistic, civilized societies.

That does not mean there is no effective means to counter them. The trick will be to fashion counter-measures that allow us to remain pluralistic and civilized. But especially respect liberty.

bobtuba in reply to Ragspierre. | March 22, 2016 at 9:18 am

How about deporting every Muzzie and bulldozing every Mosque into a car park? Would that be effective? I think we can still remain pluralistic and civilized, but I don’t think we can do it with barbarians in our midst.

Char Char Binks in reply to bobtuba. | March 22, 2016 at 10:26 am

There’s plenty of space for them in Saudi Arabia.

gospace in reply to bobtuba. | March 22, 2016 at 1:21 pm

Deporting them all and bulldozing every mosque isn’t exactly civilized, but it is a way to maintain a decent civilization and a pluralistic minus 1 peaceful society. Not sure if it’s “a” way, of the only way. Islam doesn’t appear to mix well with other ingredients.

bobtuba in reply to gospace. | March 22, 2016 at 1:36 pm

For peaceful and pluralistic, n-1 doesn’t seem too bad… Not only that, no liberty-squashing omnipresent police state is required to keep the peace.

forksdad in reply to Ragspierre. | March 22, 2016 at 10:34 am

There’s no ‘trick’ to it. You can have a multi-ethnic empire with draconian security apparatus or you can keep them out.

Until support for terrorism of any kind and in any circumstances is in <2% range you simply cannot import them without consequence. Even then when were talking about 100,000 of them it is a horrible crapshoot.

The step in the solution is to elect Trump and not a Lindsey Graham Mitt Romney supported establishment guy like Cruz.

It’s a pity the various Euro populations walked away from participation in gov’t and instead handed over governance to a bunch of credentialed idiots.

Although it’s childish to reduce this thread to national US politics, my inner child can’t refrain from posting a couple of notes from the PowerLine blog’s comment section. Apparently hyper-liberal “reporter” Maria Bartiroma interviewed Don Trump. This led to widespread mockery at the time, but it doesn’t look so out of place now.

NY Times: Trump finds new city to insult
“There is something going on, Maria,” he said. “Go to Brussels. Go to Paris. Go to different places. There is something going on and it’s not good, where they want Shariah law, where they want this, where they want things that — you know, there has to be some assimilation. There is no assimilation. There is something bad going on.”

Warming to his theme, he added that Brussels was in a particularly dire state. “You go to Brussels — I was in Brussels a long time ago, 20 years ago, so beautiful, everything is so beautiful — it’s like living in a hellhole right now,” Mr. Trump continued.

JimMtnViewCaUSA in reply to JimMtnViewCaUSA. | March 22, 2016 at 11:27 am

Other on-point commenters at PL react:
“Right on cue, the NYTimes headline ignores the fact that it’s the Muslims that have ruined life in a once-beautiful city, and attacks Trump for noticing.”

“The Sound of Muslims: How Do You Solve
A Problem Like Maria? – Cut Off Her Head!”

“Remind me again! Who is the only candidate really concerned about the ‘Religion of Peace?'”

“Is it the guy who wants to keep muslims from coming here? Or, is it the gal who swapped cheek kisses with Mrs. Arafat?”

“Hand out participation awards to Bernie, Hillary, Kasich, and Ted.”

Sammy Finkelman in reply to JimMtnViewCaUSA. | March 22, 2016 at 12:59 pm

If “something is going on” it means it’s new – and not central to Islam.

Tying this to Islam in general is probably Russian propaganda, which wants us and Europe not to distinguish good from evil, but only look at ethnicity or religion – and Russia would be on the right side. And then maybe nobody would remember that Putin was responsible for bom, bings in Moscow. You could be really manipulated.

The fact of the matter is that almost every one of these terrorists – to a man, or, occasionally, woman – is either a “born again” Moslem, or an out and out convert.

Something is going on that has NOT been going on steadily for around 1400 years, and has not affected every Moslem, or too many of them.

It is really extremely important to go after the teachers, and the financial supporters, not the students. (Of course if you get rid of all Moslems, you’ll get rid of the instigators too, but if you leave it at that, whole portions of the world become completely separated, which is not a best case scenario.)

JimMtnViewCaUSA in reply to Sammy Finkelman. | March 22, 2016 at 6:40 pm

Sammy, you’re a smart guy and I read your comments with interest. In this case, though, I think you’re wrong. It might be true that blame of Muslims is being pushed by Russian intelligence. They’re good at manipulating public opinion.
But I also think the Muslim populace in the West is trouble. Not all are terrorists. But surveys show they hold dangerous beliefs. At any moment they may spin into open violence. And at all moments many of them will side with terrorists and won’t inform to authorities. They may not act but they will support, or at the least, keep silent.

Back a decade ago, when I read The Weekly Standard, there was a persuasive guy who frequently explained how Shiites and Sunnis were mostly monstrous but Sufis were OK.
          Maybe so.

“Sammy, you’re a smart guy and I read your comments with interest.”

No he’s not, he is a dumbass of the worst type – he will get you killed.

He a lefty planted here to spread inane propaganda.

Sammy Finkelman in reply to Sammy Finkelman. | March 23, 2016 at 10:09 am

But I also think the Muslim populace in the West is trouble. Not all are terrorists.

Only a tiny, tiny, minority. But the terrorists don’t need too many. What they do need is an effective screening process.

Here they are at a real disadvantage. Our security screening problem is nothing compared to what the terrorists have to do.

In our case, even in a subgroup, at least 65%, probably 95% or 98% and would not help, or could be completely on our side, and tell authorities, or somebody they tell will inform, maybe anonymously.

          But their problem?

Say, for instance, there are, starting from a subgroup of the population, a certain percentage of people who agree with at least some of their premises.

They then have to winnow out the 2% or less (or whatever) who will be fools enough to join and will remain loyal.

That’s tough, tough screening. They need to have some people with a shrewd assessment of others.

They do this by creating circles within circles. A person who won’t take the first step is ignored. A person who stops at the third step won’t go further. The terrorist leaders have to stop double agents and defectors.

This weakness in terrorist networks is not exploited enough.

Char Char Binks in reply to Sammy Finkelman. | March 23, 2016 at 11:00 am

1,400 years ago, Muslims didn’t have planes, trains and automobiles to travel to the west, or modern weaponry. That’s the difference. That is all.

Sammy Finkelman in reply to Sammy Finkelman. | March 23, 2016 at 11:40 am

You don’t need trains or planes to plot mass killings. Sometimes people live together or nearby. There really is a difference in ideology. The ideology held by Muslims is not a constant. To talk that way is just stupid. It does sometimes get worse – there’s potential there for something bad. But only potential. Whenever that does happen, the instigators get destrpyed.

          “Only a tiny, tiny, minority.”

          More finkelman BS.

“More than half (51%) of U.S. Muslims polled also believe either that they should have the choice of American or shariah courts, or that they should have their own tribunals to apply shariah. Only 39% of those polled said that Muslims in the U.S. should be subject to American courts.”

“Even more troubling, is the fact that nearly a quarter of the Muslims polled believed that, “It is legitimate to use violence to punish those who give offense to Islam by, for example, portraying the prophet Mohammed

Frank Gaffney Jr. (hint Cruz foreign policy advisor)
That would translate into roughly 300,000 Muslims living in the United States who believe that shariah is “The Muslim God Allah’s law that Muslims must follow and impose worldwide by Jihad

I don’t think the populations themselves actually voted for the EU. Mostly it was the political leadership. Yes, there were a few elections but when the people rejected EU membership they were forced to go through the elections again and again until they got it right (or until the politicians learned from the Chicago politician how to throw the elections.)

Sammy Finkelman in reply to rabidfox. | March 23, 2016 at 11:45 am

I don’t think the populations themselves actually voted for the EU. Mostly it was the political leadership.

There probably was not great opposition, and there were benefits.

The problem is the power grab by the central bureaucracy, which has done all sorts of undemocratic things. They’ve added all sorts of human rights, like no death penalty, and made very bad encironmental and economic regulations. It’s difficult, for instance, for anything to be called organic there.

      More of Ted Cruz’s lies.

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N4s6LWBBEwI

Falsely claiming that Trump’s position is to “withdraw” from NATO, and embellishing on that. That is absolutely not what Trump has said! Trump’s position is that our NATO partners effectly are doing next-to-nothing at this point, and the U.S. — money and blood — has become effectly all of it.

Falsely claiming yet again that Trump is “neutral” about the relative merits of Israel’s and the Palestinians’ positions.

Cruz now pursuing Rubio, has been endorsed by those paragons such as Graham and Romney, and 100% all-in with the GOPe for the purposes of his own glorification and aggrandizement. So much for “pincipled conservatism”. Another lying politician out for himself.

Falsely claiming yet again that Trump is “neutral” about the relative merits of Israel’s and the Palestinians’ positions.

Trump didn’t say that. But he did say something.

He said, he would have to maintain a neutral position in order to help negotiations.

        Wrong, wrong wrong.

For negotiations to have any possible success, the Palestinian or Arab side must confess crimes, and ask for forgiveness. That’s not going to happen if the United States, at least, doesn’t tell them that they have done wrong.

The single biggest obstacle to peace is Palestinian and Arab self-righteousness, which extends even to justifying acts of terror. More so than not accepting a Jewish state. So long as they maintain their position of self-righteousness, it is totally impossible to begin anything.

They also must admit that they, and not Israel, are the cause of the problem. Sadat did that – nobody was arguing – but he started with the premise that Egypt had been the cause of the wars between Israel and Egypt. If he had tried to say the opposite, his speech in the Knesset would have been useless.

Who remembers how quickly the media fell into line when the Palestinians asked them not to show footage of jubilant celebrations?

Who remembers the media printing “workplace violence” at Fort Hood with a straight face?

Why are Americans being directed to turn away from the clear evidence of what’s happening?

So sorry. The idiot that put this up about a month ago, just decided to remove it. Guess it didn’t fit his narrative of “Trump the Nazi”.
Especially the last interview where the lady says “If he becomes President I may move to Brussels.”

casualobserver | March 22, 2016 at 9:53 am

There are only two ways to avoid or minimize this happening. Either stop those who might do it from ever touching our soil, or to know enough about every person in the country to predict or prevent. There is a clear choice to maintain liberty – disallow entry to those who might. That doesn’t mean an eternal ban on a religion, but it does mean better control than we have now. Otherwise, allowing all to enter means we need a near police state.

Of course, we need to continue to work on both measures – entrance and monitoring for signs. Some people will radicalize, for example, even if born on this soil. But it is only logical to prevent entry as a powerful first step. And that is why Trump’s words resonate.

forksdad in reply to casualobserver. | March 22, 2016 at 10:25 am

The terrorism is a feature not a bug for the big brother state. How can they justify their surveillance if they do not have terrorists amongst us?

So of course they plan on bringing in hundreds of thousands more like the rapefugees who attack women every day, the intolerant and dangerous religious fanatics who want to set up sharia law and thousands more so they can have some cover when they need to hide.

rabidfox in reply to casualobserver. | March 22, 2016 at 12:57 pm

We need to stop looking at islam as a religion and start looking at is as a criminal enterprise disguised as a religion. If the nazis had just found some sort of god and claimed the ritual status for their various laws we’d all be speaking German now.

Nobody foresaw that allowing enough immigrants from Islamist strongholds to swamp the local social nets and outnumber the locals in small towns would have this effect. /s

Valerie in reply to Valerie. | March 22, 2016 at 10:24 am

    Should read “unvetted” immigrants.

This was an enormous policy change, to let in swarms of men of fighting age without families, without any notion of who they were.

forksdad in reply to Valerie. | March 22, 2016 at 10:39 am

No we simply must take in these young ‘Syrian’ rapefugees and possibly provide women for them or we are bigots. Or we could keep them all out.

Two choices only one keeps us safe. So I wonder which our elites will insist on.

So Ragsy is a multi culti. Shouldn’t be a surprise really. Purists prefer theoretical purity of liberty to saving actual lives and our culture. Purists prefer the theoretical benefits of stupid trade deals over preservation of real middle class jobs.

Events in Brussels show again why Trump is only sane choice. Trump is only candidate who can and will protect this country from the purists and the multi culti PC crowd.

So Bierhall Bullyboi Bigot Britt is a lying fascist SOS.

No surprises there. He’s been one for years, apparently.

“Liberty” is a bad word to T=rump sucking cultists.

As is “market economics” a bad term. Too much choice left in the wrong hands…

Trump this morning says close border now. Cruz is still deciding whether to “me too Teddy” what Trump has already said or to say something stupid. Maybe Cruz is checking with Lindsey Graham, Mitt Romney and McConnell on what they want Cruz to say.

    John Hayward at Breitbart:

“Dr. Alan Mendoza, founder and Executive Director of the Henry Jackson Society, said the coordinated terrorist bombings in Brussels must force Europeans to consider multiculturalism simply has not worked and they must “remember what being European is”

and the answer is Cruz decides to say something STUPID.

Ted Cruz Bashes Donald Trump after Brussels Terror Attacks

“Well, I will say, it is striking that the day after Donald Trump called for America weakening NATO withdrawing from NATO we see Brussels, where NATO is headquartered, the subject of a radical Islamist terrorist attack.”

Yeah Cruz boy it is all Trump’s fault not the terrorists.

The really surprising part about Cruz’s attack is that it is EXACTLY the very same talking points HILLARY supporters were using this morning when questioned about whether the Brussels bombing will help Trump or not.

Cruz and his RINO establishment supporters are now attacking Trump from the left with the EXACT SAME TALKING POINTS AND MISREPRESENTATIONS about Trump saying NATO costs USA too much and Germany/France and other countries need to step up and pay their fair share.

Here is what Trump really said about NATO:

In an interview with The Washington Post, the Republican frontrunner chided the North Atlantic Treaty Organization or NATO for its expense. He said the U.S. might need to reduce its involvement in NATO in coming years, a move that would flout Washington’s long-standing support for the 28-member military alliance. “We certainly can’t afford to do this anymore,” Trump said. “NATO is costing us a fortune, and yes, we’re protecting Europe with NATO, but we’re spending a lot of money.”

That stance is indicative of the candidate’s non-interventionist approach to foreign policy matters. He said the United States should not be focused on nation-building overseas; money should be spent domestically instead. “I just think we have to rebuild our country,” he said.

Also, Breitbart Livewire has the video of Trump talking a while back about Brussels being a hotbed of Terrorism and having been ruined by migrants. He was right, but the RINOs and Hillary supporters in press all jumped on him of course for saying it.

What Cruz DID NOT SAY this morning about Brussels attacks !!

Notice what Cruz does NOT SAY. He does NOT SAY anything about border security, stopping muslims from entering USA until we can properly vet them. Nothing about the border and immigration.

Instead the moron establishment boy Cruz rushes to the microphones to spout the HILLARY/Democrat/GOPe line that its all Trump’s fault for wanting Germany and France to pay their fair share of NATO costs.

This guy Cruz proves he can NOT BE TRUSTED to be anything other than an establishment hack more and more every day.

Cruz has already sold out first amendment rights of free speech. Now he is selling out border security and our culture. Cruz will sell out anything and everything to gain power for his dominionist religious cult.

      Consistent conservative my ASS.

Trump 2016. The only choice to save our country and our culture.

With any luck this will convince more Americans to vote for a dishonest leftist big government con man thug today in Utah and Arizona. That would be about par for the course.
    —Patterico, conservative

    Yep. Right on.

I’m a “multi-culturist” in exactly the same mold as Steyn and Andy McCarty.

Only a pure idiot of a fascist bent thinks we COULD “close the borders” today or any other time short of a 9/11 response, and then only for a few days.

Patterico, like the people who quote him, is a moron. But he did get it right that the events of today are certainly not going to cost Trump any votes in Arizona or Utah.

There is a very good chance (not 100% unfortunately) that despite being the Mitt Romney establishment boy in Utah that Cruz will not get over 50% in Utah. Trump on the other hand is going to Crush it in Arizona.

It is quite possible that after today Cruz will be completely eliminated from even a wild eyed dreamers chance of ever getting the nomination outright. Cruz should do the right thing and drop out NOW.

Finally Rags, quoting the establishment RINO morons at National Review is also not persuasive of anything unless you are seeking to persuade the RINO establishment crowd to whom Cruz is already beholden.

Calling for a boycott of Apple is the least worry Apple would have if I were president. As President I would fully use any and all of the following to protect USA citizens. It would be my hope that a President Trump would do one or more or all of the following:

I would annonce that the doj would hold Apple and its officers personally liable both criminally and civilly should there be a terrorist attack that could have been in theory foiled if Apple had timely complied with court order.

If a terrorist attack should happen anywhere in the world involving an american citizen before Apple’s compliance I would frog walk on national TV the top 10 officers of apple and every member of their board of directors out of their homes and offices to be booked for their complicity in those crimes.

I would then have the SEC open a civil and criminal investigation into Apple and its officers for failing to provide adequate reserves against their earnings for the potential billions of dollars in liabilities for failure to unlock that phone.

I would send a couple hundred IRS agents to take up permanent residence at Apple and audit every open year with a microscope. Do the same for the top 250 highest paid employees of Apples personal returns.

All apple products and parts coming in from overseas would be held in customs pending inspection. I would assign a single blind and physically handicapped customs inspector to inspect one by one each product and part and would not release a single product until they all had been inspected.

Somewhere along the line Apple’s stock price would effectively become zero and shareholders will demand cooks resignation and compliance with a reasonable request to protect USA citizens from terrorists.

While doing the above I would have congress pass legislation codifying the civil and criminal liability for a company that fails to comply with valid search warrant or court order to cooperate in terrorism investigation.

I would have congress pass legislation requiring that all encrpted products and encryption schemes included on any product sold in USA MUST maintain unlocking decryption keys/information to unlock any information or device upon search warrant or other court order.

I like the vast majority of voters am disgusted at Apple trying to place its profits and ultra liberal pro terrorist ideology above the safety and security of USA citizens. Especially in this kind of fact situation.

Rags never lies. Britt lies daily. He’s a fascist, so it comes by nature for him. He HATES the rule of law, and the principles of the Constitution, like Der Donald, his man-crush.

That was one of my best posts ever. Nothing but rule of law and make Apple OBEY THE LAW in that post. Apple claims it wants to protect the dead terrorists privacy in a cell phone the dead terrorist didn’t even own, and then lies about how that would effect everyone else. And Apple is NOT doing it for the reasons they state but to get some free publicity so they can be the phone system of choice for terrorists.

Your damn right they deserve everything I wrote in that post. It is Ragspierre’s lying interpretation of that post that it is anything bad at all.

Oh and Ragspierre lies constantly. Just like his boy lyin Ted Cruz.

You said, “Only a pure idiot of a fascist bent thinks we COULD “close the borders” today or any other time short of a 9/11 response…”

I said, ““But it’s unrealistic to say we’re going to completely shut down our borders to everyone…”

        So, D’Mav, T-rump sucking mole troll…

        You DO believe…

        1. if Washington, DC was attacked by suicide bombers at its airport and a subway station it would be LEGALLY possible for a Pres. T-rump to order all “borders closed”, which would include the Canadian border, Mexican border, and both our sea coasts, along with all airline and seabound travel AND SHIPPING across those boundaries?

        2. that “closing the border” AFTER the fact would have any effect on the…you know…REALITY of the situation?

You are also in the select category of a “lying SOS” for T-rump, your little yellow god.

Sammy Finkelman in reply to Ragspierre. | March 22, 2016 at 5:18 pm

          2. that “closing the border” AFTER the fact would have any effect on the…you know…REALITY of the situation?

Well, I thought that was useless after the PPAris attacks, because everyone involved would either have left before, or have committed suicide, but it turned one or more of them did not commit suicide, against orders.

I can’t believe Saleh Abdeslam suddenly decided not to kill himself in Paris. If that’s the case, his superiors would never have taken him back. So they must have known that wouldn’t happen. Or this is even a more compliated story.

I can believe that’s what he told all or most of the other idiots in Paris that that they were all supposed to commit suicide, including him. I think also the other guy in Paris found a few days later in an apartment never intended to kill himself, nor did his female cousin, but they were both killed when a third bomber blew himself up. She didn’t, and he didn’t.

Constitutionalists know that if we betray our principles and the very fabric of our nation’s founding for expediency then we are doomed regardless of short term results.

I just read a very informative article about islam and it makes it clear that the Western leaders and most of the people do not understand that islam is not like any other religion. Not only is it MUCH more than a religion it has no wiggle room on its laws. All other religions are based on writings of many different people and most of their holy books are history written by third parties. Not so the koran. It is ONE man’s word taken down and there is no “Interpretation” of what it says. If muhammad says something is thus then by allah it is thus. That is why there cannot be good muslims and bad muslims. Either they are muslims or they aren’t. Baptist, Methodists, Episcopalians, Catholics and all of the Easten religions all have variations of their rules to accommodate their sect. Islam does not. There are a couple of different paths sunni and shia but their differences is minor when it comes the laws they follow. I simply do not see how we can ever leave peacefully with muslims who are following their teachings. In their eyes we are infidels that are unworthy of their respect and we either convert, pay a tax for being alive or die. Those are the three options we have.

rabidfox in reply to inspectorudy. | March 22, 2016 at 1:08 pm

Agreed InspectorRudy. Islam is as much a legal/political structure as a religion. Actually, it is more of a legal and political structure set in concrete by religion. Unfortunately it was set in concrete back in the 7th century.

bobtuba in reply to inspectorudy. | March 22, 2016 at 1:34 pm

Islam is a hostile and fascist ideology invented out of whole cloth by a bloodthirsty paedophile as a means of controlling populations. It is equipped with pseudo-religious trapping, and is sold as religion to the ignorant. And to progressives. But I repeat myself.

Sammy Finkelman in reply to inspectorudy. | March 22, 2016 at 5:23 pm

Islam has one ultoimate authority, but it is not alone in that. THat authority may be bad in ways, but it doesn’t tell them to kill random civilians. There isn’t all that much in the Koran and they have to use either later decisions, or acts or sayings of Mohammed. The suppoosed to be authoritative rulings that were made later are called “fatwas”

The concept of killing random people from “enemy” countries or populations can be traced back no further, I think, than the fatwas written by Max von Oppenheim in German in Berlin in 1914, and translated into a number of languages.

Your full of shit as usual finkelman. Islam, as written by the pedophile creator, commands the killing of infidels and the raping and slavery of the infidel women.

We just have to offer the migrants in anti-bombing classes like we offered the migrants anti-rape classes. Everything will be alright, reality has no bearing on our governments leftist agendas.

Reading through these comments, I am astonished to find that Ted Cruz, Mark Steyn, Andrew McCarthy, and blogger Patterico have suddenly become RINO establishment squishes. This would be a surprise to them and to the real establishment squishes. It’s fine to support your chosen candidate, but pretending that all the others have suddenly become the devil without their having changed their positions at all is bizarre.

Ragspierre in reply to tarheelkate. | March 22, 2016 at 1:13 pm

…and, by extension, Rush Limbaugh, Mark Levin, and even Sean Hannity. ALL of whom have averred that Cruz is THE real conservative in this primary.

To say nothing about virtually the entire Texas conservative leadership, the governor of Utah, Sen. Mike Lee, etc., etc, etc.

forksdad in reply to tarheelkate. | March 22, 2016 at 1:29 pm

If they haven’t changed their positions reality has given them good reason to do so. Maybe they’re wedded to the failed policies, maybe they are afraid of being called, ‘racist’ either way they need to step up and take their stand with the West. Trying to hold to these failed and dangerous multi cult policies will simply kill more people.

When Cruz et al are spouting the exact same talking points as Hillary, the democrats and the worst of the GOPe, which is exactly what he is doing this morning, then yes they are RINO squishes as you put it.

I wouldn’t be so kind about it if I was describing their sell out of conservatism, this country and its culture.

Quite the opposite. You’ve DEMONSTRATED you HATE conservative values, liberty, the rule of law, and the Constitution.

When, BTW, did Cruz give money to the Clinton Foundation?

      You lying SOS.

Sammy Finkelman in reply to Gary Britt. | March 23, 2016 at 10:20 am

Ted Cruz is just trying to be a more intelligent, moderate, demagogue than Donald Trump. It’s not actually a way to win a general election.

He has to know that “patrolling” Muslim neighborhoods is a ridiculous proposal. It’s as ridiculous as if someone had proposed to patrol Italian neighborhoods in Chicago in the 1920s looking for well dressed people carrying violin cases. What exactly would you expect to see and stop?

Now sending agents into Mosques to listen and try to zero in on networks, might be something that makes more sense. Watching any person getting money from abroad may make sense. This is detective work, not street patrol work.

Sammy Finkelman | March 22, 2016 at 1:05 pm

The plot wasn’t stopped by the arrests. Saleh Abdeslam told them there was something else he was planning.

They actually caught him somewhat by surprise – there was one or more additional informers, but all that their source(s) had known was that there was somebody hiding somewhere, not who it was. And then they found Abdeslam. Acually two times – he got away the first time.

They knew there was a suicide bomb builder, because these things can’t be built by amateurs. And they knew there was another very important person involved with Abdelsalm whose DNA was found in place bombs were found.

They knew that the scale or the size of terrorist group was bigger than they thought. They were learning something new every day.

They thought that the high level associate might be the same person who was the bomb builder – although I think it is unlikely that the same person would be both a ringleader and a bomb builder, which is a technical skill.

And then this happened:

Sammy Finkelman | March 22, 2016 at 1:07 pm

The fact is, “liberal” societies have lost their antibodies against crime.

The crime came before the terrorism, and the terrorism was built on that.

And Molenbeek had been allowed to become close to an intelligence free zone.

There are actually a lot of separate law enforcement agencies in Belguim, and everybody wants anything difficult to be somebody else’s job.

Here is what Trump said this morning whis what he is still saying nothing has changed. But the cruzbots like you and hotair are desperate to deflect story of how Cruz came out spouting Hillary talking points today so you and they find some lie to tell.

    https://ca.news.yahoo.com/trump-looks-expand-lead-arizona-utah-cast-votes-100403800.html

Trump, who has called for a temporary ban on Muslims entering the country, also reiterated the need for tougher measures to stop the flow of illegal immigrants, particularly Syrian refugees, across the border.

“As president … I would be very, very tough on the borders, and I would be not allowing certain people to come into this country without absolute perfect documentation,” said Trump, campaigning to become the Republican nominee for the Nov. 8 election that will decide on Obama’s successor.

The Brussels attacks brought national security back to the top of the 2016 presidential election agenda, possibly sharpening division between Trump’s isolationist approach to foreign policy and his Republican rivals’ more traditional interventionist outlook.

Sammy Finkelman in reply to Gary Britt. | March 23, 2016 at 11:26 am

Donald Trump: and I would be not allowing certain people to come into this country without absolute perfect documentation,”

      Paper?

      Paper is what you need??

Paper that a refugee wouldn’t have, but a well organized terrorist organization could produce?

Paper that a corrupt or terrorist-connected government wouldn’t hand out to its enemies, but would hand out to people connected to terrorists?

Paper produced by governments there is no reason to trust, in either its integrity or competence? And I don’t mean Iran or Syria – I mean places like Pakistan or Qatar, and maybe more to come. Which are U.S. allies even.

Verifiable stories is what you need. And it’s not all that hard to corroborate things, at least enough to know that someone has not been supported by a terrorist organization for the last three years, because terrorists will have a very peculiar true biography.

We had plenty of paper on Tafsheen Malik, the female terrorist in San Bernardino.

Europe has left its front door wide-open. And now they’re surprised when people come in, eat all their food, take all their valuables, and inflict bodily harm on the owners. I am not surprised.

Sammy Finkelman | March 22, 2016 at 5:03 pm

but this could be seen as a retaliatory attacks in response to counter-terrorism raid being conducted by the Belgian Police

Not “retaliatory!” Why does everything have to be a response to something else, anyway?

But pushed forward by the knowledge the police were after them, and they might not have too much time left to kill any people. The most dangerous time actually is when terrorists know they are close to getting caught, but they are not yet caught and they still have bombs.

The Boston marathon bombers were going to do something else, too, and heading to New York, when a person they kidnapped escaped and alerted police who traced them through the GPS on his phone, if I recollect correctly.

Of course anyway this is assuming they switched targets, and they wanted to leave Brussels unscathed because it was their headquarters.

Sammy Finkelman | March 22, 2016 at 5:11 pm

Europe has left its front door wide-open.

And so the solutionis to “lock the door” and and never go out, and never let anyone in, and let wild beasts wander outside? These people were not in brissels for just a few days. It’s that they let part of their society remain unpoliced. The terrorists were probably recruited in their own prisons.

And they’re supposed to leave the people behind all of this alone?

forksdad in reply to Sammy Finkelman. | March 22, 2016 at 7:07 pm

First rule of when you find yourself in a hole is to stop digging. Don’t let anymore in, deport every single one that is criminal or has ties to criminals.

Deport every single one and their families that espouse terrorism. Then maybe Europe will be safe again. Or safer anyway.

Not going to happen though and absent a Reconquesta Europe will probably lose everything they held onto since Jon Sobieski.

Sammy Finkelman in reply to forksdad. | March 23, 2016 at 10:39 am

Don’t let anymore in, deport every single one that is criminal or has ties to criminals [so they can wreak havoc somewhere else?]

So, destroying the organization is hopeless, because supposedly, it’s a 1400 year old religion with 1 and a half billion adherents, and you merely want to contain it in the maybe one third of the world or so which will become a no-go zone for Westerners (although maybe not Chinese, but that’s bad because that’s a form of leakage and you don’t want anything, human, animal, vegetable, mineral or electronic to cross the border between ISIS and the rest of the world) while the Caliph Ibrahim trades with other countries, and sets about building atomic bombs and submarines and missiles, and wages local wars and sponsors terrorism wherever he or his allies can reach?

Well, that way you’d surely reduce greenhouse gas emissions, so I guess that’s one thing going for that strategy, if you have certain opinions.

      I think that’s a form of surrender.

buckeyeminuteman in reply to Sammy Finkelman. | March 23, 2016 at 7:45 am

The wonderful thing about front doors, Finkelman, is that you can put a lock on it. And you don’t even have to give anybody else the key. My front door is locked most of the time, and yet I come and go from my house quite frequently. By shutting the front door it doesn’t mean I can’t ever leave…

4:35: CNN Poll: 60% of Republicans believe the candidate with the most support in the primaries/caucuses should get the nomination if no candidate has the majority of delegates after the first round of voting.

6:13: Piers Morgan: Time to Start Listening to Trump on Islamic Terrorism.

Trump told me countries must tighten their borders in light of these terror attacks, especially to anyone related to an ISIS fighter in Syria.

Is he so wrong?

He told me he wants law-abiding Muslims to root out the extremists in their midst, expressing his bafflement and anger that someone like Abdeslam was able to hide for so long in the very part of Brussels he had previously lived.

Is he so wrong?

He told me America must make it far harder for illegal immigrants to enter the U.S. and thinks European countries should follow suit.

Is he so wrong?

He told me he believes there are now areas of many major European cities which have become poisonous breeding grounds for radicalized Islamic terror.

Is he so wrong?

I didn’t feel I was talking to a lunatic, as many seem to view Trump.

I saw a guy, a non-politician unfettered by PC language restraints, who is genuinely furious at the devastation which ISIS is wreaking, and seriously concerned for the security of his fellow Americans and indeed, the citizens of Europe.

“We gotta be very very vigilant.”

“We gotta be very very strong.”

Repeated 25 or thirty times, like chanting it will help…

Well you got the brilliant part correct. You left out some important things however.

Build wall and make Mexico pay for it.

Halt Muslim immigration until they can be properly vetted.

End Visa waiver program so muslim terrorists can’t get here on EU passports.

Bring jobs and money back to USA

End stupid trade deals that have destroyed our middle class

      Fix broken tax code

And then be strong and tough and vigilant in whipping the RINOs in line and get the above done.

Only Trump can do these things. Cruz has gone all establishment RINO all the time.

Don’t worry only about 13% admit to supporting ISIS. Just under 40% are ok with terrorism in some cases. Only fraction are ok with suicide bombings. They’re just a drop in the bucket. What’s to worry about.
