Executive Immigration Action-palooza

Executive Immigration Action-palooza

Illegals to host watch parties for tonight’s immigration announcement

I may have been born and raised in America, but I have an immigration story, too.

My grandma fled post-World War II Denmark with her family after the Nazis finally turned tail in May of 1945. After 3 tense years of uneasy collaboration and 2 of direct resistance against occupation, Denmark was exhausted, and so was my family. So, they came here; because my grandma was a minor at the time, her processing was pretty simple. She received papers, a social security number, and became a citizen of the United States just like thousands of others did during the post-war era.

Fast forward 45 or so years, and there’s a problem with my grandma’s social security paperwork; not just a little problem, but a major problem that took two years, hours of travel time, and thousands of dollars to solve. Somewhere along the line, some bureaucrat in a cube in Chicago had dotted an “i” instead of crossing a “t,” and now it was my grandma’s responsibility to prove that her social security number was valid, and that she was indeed a citizen.

The moral of the story is, our immigration system needs an overhaul. It does not, however, need the overhaul that Obama is planning.

Tonight, President Obama will sit himself down in front of a camera and lay out a 10 point plan he insists will “fix our broken immigration system.” It will do no such thing, but amnesty advocates around the country are preparing their flocks for what they believe will be a lifechanging announcement.

From the Washington Times:

At Adalberto United Methodist Church in Chicago, which makes immigration a special ministry, Pastor Emma Lozano said she’ll he sitting alongside people who are currently facing deportation as they hear what the president lays out.

“We’re going to be watching this very closely, people in my church. We’re going to have the TV on in both languages and really praying and hoping we get what we deserve,” she told The Washington Times.

Casa, a major immigrant-rights group based in Maryland and Virginia, plans three screening parties, while the New York Immigration Coalition announced three parties around the Big Apple.

“The president will detail his plans to take executive action to provide administrative relief to millions of immigrants,” the New York group said. “We expect such relief to be a program that offers a temporary solution for millions of families and workers around the country, offering protection from deportation and work authorization.”

Maybe Emma shouldn’t pray too hard about what those facing deportation may or may not deserve, all things considered.

It’s times like this when I grow weary of advocates’ stories of people “living in the shadows.” They’re doing no such thing; because of what Obama is doing, those who once hid are coming willingly out of the shadows to celebrate freedom not from an unjust system, but from the consequences of their actions.

The impending “overhaul” is seen not as a shocking development but as an entitlement whose time has come. Those who plan to cheer tonight do a great disservice to the thousands of people who fought tooth and nail to come to the United States legally, and who see their citizenship as a well-earned blessing.

We will be covering tonight’s announcement here at Legal Insurrection. Check the homepage at 8 Eastern.

Hosting watch parties, eh? Sounds like a prime opportunity to round these criminals up and toss ’em out of the country, doesn’t it? Too bad no-one in power is really interested in the rule of law anymore.

Frightening times we are living in.

Pogo Hears a Who | November 20, 2014 at 9:08 am

So who’s all going to the wake for the Constitution tonight?

There’ll be shots of tequila, no doubt.

USA, we hardly knew ye.

This will sound stupid i know . But ! In reference to our constitution.
How can Barry get away with this blatant abuse of power ? He’s granting himself powers never seen by our presidents. He’s allowed to abuse and destroy our laws at will ? This makes no sense to a simple mind like myself . I thought we had laws to follow , even the president !!

    .

Essentially, we have two recources of action against a President who chooses not to execute the laws: impeachment and withholding funding. We’ve become too partisan for either. Impeachment is a mythical joke anymore. Until the Legislative Branch grows a backbone, there will be no consequences for Obama. And he knows that. And the MSM applauds that. And we’ll pay for it.

        tencz65 in reply to windbag. | November 20, 2014 at 1:48 pm

TY Windbag & Rags . Bout what i thought . We will have 5 Million arrogant illegals demanding everything from us and nothing from there own country . Plus the other 35 Million msm doesn’t talk about .
Can’t Federal Marshals march into the WH and arrest that Grifter ? This is all so D_mn wrong and we must eat it !
My powder is dry Rags . Anytime . I spent 3 yr’s in Nam for my country , not theirs !!

          Ragspierre in reply to tencz65. | November 20, 2014 at 2:00 pm

I’m not calling for powder. We have a MUCH better tool in civil disobedience.

NOT an easy tool, and certainly not one without costs and risk.

But everyone from Thoreau to Gandhi to King showed us that governments simply collapse when people withdraw their support of them.

Like I’ve said before, if Barracula wants to open this ball, he’ll pay the piper if we act with guts in defense of our nation. And I’m suggesting we do that openly, publicly, and as loudly as we can.

      Ragspierre in reply to tencz65. | November 20, 2014 at 1:29 pm

And, of course, he IS required to abide by the law…and his own oath of office.

That isn’t the question. The question is, “What happens if a President eschews the law and his/her oath?”

You have a few POSSIBLE mechanisms, one being impeachment (which is a very steep hill to climb, and essentially impossible politically in the reality we have…maybe). Another is for the legislature to make ACTING on outlaw behavior fiscally impossible. Another is to pressure the executive using some other legislative prerogative…such as Cruz’s proposed hold on all Obamic appointments. ANOTHER is the power of the judiciary to order certain actions by the executive.

But the simple fact is that our Constitution…and all others that I can think of…is NOT designed to deal with an outlaw in the White House.

What THAT leaves us with…you and I…is the necessity of taking a route OUTSIDE our normal role as citizens, since we have no recourse EXCEPT to do that if we find Barracula’s conduct intolerable.

I am there. I will fight this. I invite anyone and everyone to do likewise.

platypus in reply to Ragspierre. | November 20, 2014 at 4:23 pm

Rags, your wrong about one thing. The constitution most assuredly DOES have methods to deal with an OUTLAW in the White House. You described them yet you turn around and deny their ability to effect the desired result.

Well, I don’t believe they are ineffective until one of them (defunding) is tried and fails. But you know as well as I do that defunding will stop his scheme, IF IT’S TRIED.

We shall see what we shall see. All I know is that issuing work authorizations and SS numbers will not immunize any employer who relies on them in order to hire one of these criminals. Technically, POTUS’ EO cannot control the states, which is another whole level of buttocks worship.

Civil disobedience can work but nowhere near fast enough.

Ragspierre in reply to Ragspierre. | November 20, 2014 at 8:09 pm

I don’t think I said what you ascribe to me. BUT I DO think that Barracula COULD work around a defunding. I could easily be wrong, but he DOES seem to come up with money any time he cares to.

I’d LOVE to see Congress step up. I hope they will. I ALSO hope the judiciary will step up.

And you’re wrong about civil disobedience, I think. It can work next week if we start tomorrow. People don’t need to see the road flare going in the gas tank if they can see you have the road flare and it hovers over the gas tank.

It is the Lois Lerners and the Jon Grubers who are ‘living in the shadows’ of our mammoth bureaucracy.

Amnesty Rep Luis Gutierrez of IL is feeling a tingle down his leg. He may be seized with spontaneous emperor worship tonight.

Because some bureaucrat dotted an “i” instead of crossing a “t” you think we need to “overhaul” the immigration system?

It is thinking people buying into this nonsense that has gotten us where we are.

Ragspierre in reply to creeper. | November 20, 2014 at 9:49 am

If we want compliance with the law, we make the law easy to comply with.

The legal immigration system IS kludged up. It can stand to be reformed, and nothing but good would come out of that. Maybe fewer bureaucrats hanging on the Federal teets and screwing up paperwork!

Connivin Caniff | November 20, 2014 at 9:38 am

Time for the Republicans to make lemonade – by the barrel! While making an attempt to increase the Democrat base with this illegal maneuver, Obama has unwittingly offered the best, most loyal of his base to the Republicans. Who gets hurt by Obama’s latest blunder? The “1%”? Of course not; the victims are blacks, Hispanics, “working class” families and aspiring high school and college graduates looking for a job. looking, temporarily they hope, for any job. Republicans, forget about just arguing the Constitution and balance of power theories: Reach out as loud and often as you can to these Obama victims! They will finally hear you.

“We’re going to have the TV on in both languages and really praying and hoping we get what we deserve.”

1. Why both languages? Seriously, shut off the English language TV.
2. Get what you deserve? You all deserve to be in jail, or be deported.

I so despise the language that politicians, media, and advocates use. Broad terminology, vague statements, and sales pitches. Foe example: “get what we deserve”. Could someone, anyone, describe to me what illegal aliens deserve?

I say the deserve a bus ticket home, nothing more.

Then there’s the statements made to make us feel better about them cheating. example: “We’re going to have the TV on in both languages”

Arrrggg…This reminds me of all the Mexican flags at the immigration protests and then the Oops.. we meant to have American flags.

I call BS!

Further thoughts on buying into the lies…

We’ve already lost the Obamacare argument by accepting Barry’s characterization of the US health care system before O’care. The truth is, it was still the best system in the world. But control of 1/6 of the economy was just too tempting, so we “fixed” it. Covering everybody with health insurance doesn’t mean squat if no doctors will accept it.

But we’re already six miles down that road and repeal is sliding further and further away…replaced by another “fix” of an irretrievably broken law because slowly but surely the left’s lies are prevailing.

In Missouri, they’re going to “fix” their police departments and legal system because Dems say the fact that a white cop shot a black thug is PROOF that it’s broken.

We are not being loud enough and we are slowly being shouted down.

Ragspierre in reply to creeper. | November 20, 2014 at 11:45 am

“We’ve already lost the Obamacare argument by accepting Barry’s characterization of the US health care system before O’care.”

What in the wide, wide wonderful world of sports are you going on about here?

The ObamaDoggle “argument” was never “lost”. Did YOU accept the lying ScamWOW characterization of American health care? Because most people did NOT.

We (or at least I) write here constantly about reform, and I damn sure am not afraid of reforming stuff that really IS broken. You cannot be afraid to change.

This brings me to the subject of gradients. Civic life HATES a gradient, and there will ALWAYS be a tendency to address one. If WE don’t address them constructively, using correct principles, they WILL get addressed by people with much darker motives and wrong principles. Think of LBJ and civil rights.

Which, of course, is not to say that every “problem” the Collective touts IS a problem. But there is no doubt that our current immigration situation IS a real BAD problem. And it DOES require reformation. HOW is where the nut-cutting happens.

Karen Sacandy in reply to Ragspierre. | November 20, 2014 at 12:02 pm

Our immigration laws are NOT a problem. NOT at all.

The “problem” comes from both sides REFUSING to do as America directs, which is build the damn border fence (!) and enforce the law…. Like deporting visa overstayers.

It’s lack of enforcement, not lack of law, that is the problem.

And if the gigantic biz types – gates, buffet, auckerberg – want cheap labor, what they are REALLY saying is, they don’t like modern America’s catalogue of labor cost enhancers such as worker’s comp, social security, unemployment insurance, 401(k)s, etc.

I don’t like them either, because it makes us and our labor sluggish, expensive, slow, and lazy. But no one will repeal the damn things. So they prefer central americans without our American benefits garbage.

If anything needs changed, it’s giving Americans the ability to opt out of expensive programs so they can be pocket every penny they make, or cost less to hire.

Make Americans as free as central americans to work. Give us Freedom.

Ragspierre in reply to Karen Sacandy. | November 20, 2014 at 12:47 pm

        Well, we pretty much agree.

I do think there are some laws that could be a lot more clear. For instance, I don’t think a city should be able to be a “sanctuary” on a whim. We can argue about whether that is a matter of a hole in the law or an enforcement issue.

You’ll note, when you read what I wrote again, that I didn’t say our laws were THE issue. I said our immigration situation IS a problem. That was written to be inclusive.

But you’ll also have to admit that your very correct observations about American workers is all about REFORM. Innit?

As a legal immigrant, I know the general mindset and hypocrisy of the present batch of illegals. They absolutely KNOW their actions are indefensible. Yet these people can be just as passionate about the integrity of their native country’s border and deal swiftly with their illegals.

Our national borders were drawn at great cost to the millions of servicemen and their families who paid the ultimate price to defend. These illegals are no more entitled to break our laws than they are entitled to trample on the sacrifices of our veterans.

Bitterlyclinging | November 20, 2014 at 10:30 am

No English speaking channels were asked for air time. Apparently, what the evil white American Christians don’t know, wont hurt them. The “Lack of transparency” thing that Jonathan Gruber made reference to on several occassions, at play again. Reportedly, Donna Brazile stormed into the WhiteHouse shortly after the November 4th election shouting that you folks here at the WhiteHouse have broken the Democratic Party and you need to start fixing it, now. Then there’s a few other shells on the beach to mull over. 70 per cent of black folk in NYC salivate over Al Sharpton, whereas only 20 per cent of NYC whites feel the same. Mary Landrieu received fewer white votes than the runner up Republican candidate for her Louisianna senate seat did. Add to that 70 per cent of whites voted Republican this last first Tuesday of November. This lead Daniel Greenfield in a Frontpagemag article to state the only white Democratic voters left were unemployed Phds who remembered every word of every social activism statement but couldn’t change a flat tire and that white Democratic voters were rapidly becoming an extinct species after six years of Obama.
Obama has thus concluded he needs to reconstitute the Democratic Party and like the pharmacist who chooses distilled water to reconstitute the cephalexin powder, making it palatable enough to give as a liquid in a teaspoon to a five year old, Obama has chosen a certain group of foreign nationals to repeople the Democratic Party with, he just needs to speak to them on a personal one on one basis remimding them if the want their “Free stuff’ from the government, they need to vote Democratic.

Question: When the actual details of the plan come out (because tonight will just be the hype and fluff, with possibly an ‘outline’ or an ‘action plan’ released), where would be the best place to find a solid Fisking of the plan in respect to actual Constitutional Law, and how it breaks or abides by statute?

Ragspierre in reply to georgfelis. | November 20, 2014 at 10:44 am

Not one place, I suspect, because we have lots of fine minds who will see different facets of this and remember different things.

My list will include Mark Levin, Victor Davis Hanson, Andy McCarthy, Jonah Goldberg, Rush, Bill Whittle, Ed Driscoll, Patterico, and, of course, our estimable host.

“…praying and hoping we get what we deserve”

You’re better off praying and hoping you DON’T get what you deserve – jail time for your felonious actions.

Lawbreakers do not deserve reward for their illegality.

According to the Washington Post, Obama did not make the customary request for broadcast time for his speech tonight from the major networks. So ABC, NBC, CBS, and Fox won’t be airing it.

But Obama has timed his address to come at the start of the second hour of the Latin Grammys, an immensely popular award show on Univision, which was watched by 10 million people last year. Univision, whose Spanish-language programmers have long been friendly collaborators with the White House on its propaganda efforts, will delay the second half of the awards show so it can air Obama’s 15-minute speech and then switch back to the music.

GOP senator John Cornyn of Texas called the White House move a major “pander,” but it is more than that. The man who declared at the Democratic convention in 2004 that “there’s not a liberal America and a conservative America; there’s the United States of America” has come a long way. He now wants a segment of Americans to see his speech dramatically changing immigration law, while he goes out of his way to avoid the broader national audience. Talk about dividing America after you talked so much about uniting it.

Isn’t THAT interesting. And very, very instructive.

buckeyeminuteman | November 20, 2014 at 12:10 pm

Reform:
1) Build a fence
2) Man the fence
3) Round up everyone who crossed illegally
4) Deport, deport, deport

can we deport our Kenyan president ?

    I have a different plan:

    1. Citizens militia on the border. First two shots are warning shots. Third shot is a kill shot.
    2. $50 bounty for every illegal turned in for mandatory deportation, with no bag limit.

Can somebody please reincarnate Eisenhower and General ‘Jumpin Joe’ Swing? They are sorely needed again.

The United States has again been cheapened by this “President”. He has more allegiance to those not of this country, and to those that wish us true harm. He is a “citizen of the world”, not the Chief Executive of the United States. In part the Founders concept of “natural born” qualification for the office is being proven out by our first “globalist” leader. To his ilk, as with his mentors from the 60’s, the USA must be changed…. anything is better than what it is… even if that is total destruction.

My mother in law was going to come out and visit for Christmas. She drove 2 1/2 hours to Guadalajara in order to apply for a visa in late October. Was told that she would be put on a 3-4 month waiting list for a tourist visa… My sister in law 4-5 months pending employment and income verification.

Ragspierre in reply to aerily. | November 20, 2014 at 1:15 pm

Yeeeeeup. Penalizing (in practice) people who TRY to do things according to Hoyle is an absolute recipe for encouraging people to wire around the kludge.

Now, if your mother-in-law flies to Nigeria, Barracula may hot-shot her here on the next flight out…

“For the first time in my adult life, I am proud of my monarchy”

—Michelle Obama

I estimate at least half of the unemployed in this country are part of the underground economy. I also believe that they cannot be persuaded to “come in from the cold” as long as the two parties allow the fed government to remain the way it is – huge, aloof, and entitled to compete with citizens.

If the percentage goes much higher (say 10% more), it will be impossible to EVER pay off the national debt or even to come close to achieving a balanced budget. Which means there will be two Americas – with neither one able to impose its will on the other.

What will that look like? Tonight, Little Lord Fauntleroy seems ready to take the first step toward ensuring that future.

Everywhere I turn folks are debating which is best – defund? Impeach? Sue?

Well, nothing says we have to choose one. If Obama’s EO is truly an egregious breech of constitutional law, they can do all three: defund, impeach, and sue.
