Obama presser — wants Harry Reid, who never allows votes on Republican legislation, to hold up or down vote on Obama’s plan

CBS reports:

President Obama and congressional leaders met for just over an hour this afternoon to work on a deal to avert the “fiscal cliff” in a meeting that was described as “constructive and candid.”….

A source familiar with the White House meeting tells CBS News Chief White House Correspondent Major Garrett that the chief sticking point is the income threshold beyond which tax cuts will expire. The president pushed for the threshold to be $250,000, but Republicans balked.

The crucial issue in today’s meeting was the tax threshold, Garrett reports. Mr. Obama will stick to the Democrats’ idea of letting the cuts expire on those making over $250,000 and ask for an extension on unemployment benefits, which expire tomorrow, an official familiar with the meeting told Garrett. Boehner and McConnell are united in opposition to the $250,000 threshold and nothing will move if Mr. Obama holds firm with his party on letting the tax rates expire on that level of income.

However, Garrett reports, McConnell is ready to deal and has Republican support to strike a deal in the $500,000 range or slightly higher.

 Presser —

“a good and constructive discussion” … “I’m optimistic can reach an agreement” that can pass both houses of Congress.

If no deal reached, “I will urge Senator Reid to bring to the floor an up or down package” which continues “middle class” tax cuts and unemployment insurance, without anything containing deficit reduction.

Mr. He Who Does Nothing spent most of the presser bemoaning Congress for doing nothing.

PASS PLAN C if no deal reached.

I thought I was going to choke on my partially ingested dinner listening to that bull. How are we repeatedly in this position Barry? Why don’t you ask Harry Reid why he never passes a budget? Does anyone recall cliffs and dire wrangling over last-minute legislation during Bush’s administration? Imagine we had a president who proposed a budget that might even garner a vote or two from his own party. No we have ZERO and his budgets get ZERO votes. We’re in this situation because democrats want this situation – repeatedly.

Imagine we had a press corps that might make this point known to the general public.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, david greGORY holds up a budget

The very next day harry reid says, what’s that! It’s worse then the magazine.

Why do I see the Four Horsemen of the Fiscal Wall charging full tilt, lances aimed squarely at the productive middle class and paycheck-to-paycheck earners, while chuckling at kicking the can down the road in a back room Reid-twister, a la Obamacare? I’m looking at you, too, Boehner and McConnell…

I. Will. Resist. Anger. mmmmmKay?

The last 25 years of ‘Reagan Legacy’, Clinton ‘vision’, Bush ‘warriors’, and Obama apparatchiks has destroyed any sense of budgetary logic and clear-eyed vision for a strong and prosperous America and her citizens. And it’s not just the current Chicago politics (at DC dollars) that has utterly ruined my future–if ever–grandkids prospect for a world of opportunity I naively believed was at my feet in 1980…inadequate GOP ‘leadership’ since Bob Dole days has lead us to this point– just less glaringly than Queen Nancy in her heyday.

Each GOP team caves in, whether to the MSM (or as I see them, Democrats With Bylines) whining, the lobbyists offers, or weak kneed ‘moderates’ who want to belong (rhymes with Lugar, Collins and Snowe)…And us Constitutional faithful seem to have smaller voices each time around. Even when the Tea Party efforts gain one small victory, the political wing of the KKK–commonly known as Democrats, keep demanding more and more without moral or rational thinking.

Galt is going to ground, when you pay attention…Plan C at a minimum, indeed.

Hey today is Friday…they’ll cave

The GOP seems to forget the following:

They voted for the 10 year tax plan.
They lost the election.
Comprise is a word in dictionary. They don’t need Grover Norquist to give them permission to do this. If and when we do go over the cliff they will have NOTHING to bargain with. The only way for them to vote next year is to give a 250K tax deduction and renew all that has been lost by going over the cliff.

In addition all I can say to GOP is be strong. Perhaps Norquist will not make you lose the primaries

Yes, comprise is a word in the dictionary. How exactly is that word relevant here?

Grover Norquist is far less important than the masses of debt burdening our children’s future. Obama could care less about debt, he is far more interested in raising rich people’s taxes. If any revenue is raised here it *might* cover the spending of the Profligate-in-Chief for a week – if the tax accountants haven’t figured out effective avoidance strategies first. The left is not serious about growth, jobs or anything remotely aligned with fiscal sanity. It’s all about some imagined sporting event where the GOP grovels for Grover Norquist’s approval. The GOP is pathetic but the liberal loons who pretend to govern are beyond redemption.

“Balance the budget” seems like a SMART goal.

Goals should be specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and timely. In other words, in the goal setting process make sure you use the SMART…”

“The rich need to pay more” is the demand of a spoiled child, and misses being “SMART” on every count. When, exactly have the rich paid their “fair” share? When they are no longer rich.
