“Rich people are all for nonviolence. Why wouldn’t they be? They’ve got what they want.”

“Rich people are all for nonviolence. Why wouldn’t they be? They’ve got what they want.”

A newly surfaced 2002 tape of Obama speaking at an MLK Day Memorial Service is, in many ways, even more important than the Daily Caller video released last night.

In this video, revealed at Patterico, Obama plays the class warfare and race cards at the same time, tying in Enron executives and Bull Connor (emphasis by Patterico):

The philosophy of nonviolence only makes sense if the powerful can be made to recognize themselves in the powerless. It only makes sense if the powerless can be made to recognize themselves in the powerful. You know, the principle of empathy gives broader meaning, by the way, to Dr. King’s philosophy of nonviolence. I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but rich people are all for nonviolence. Why wouldn’t they be? They’ve got what they want. They want to make sure people don’t take their stuff. But the principle of empathy recognizes that there are more subtle forms of violence to which we are answerable. The spirit of empathy condemns not only the use of firehoses and attack dogs to keep people down but also accountants and tax loopholes to keep people down. I’m not saying that what Enron executives did to their employees is the moral equivalent of what Bull Connor did to black folks, but I’ll tell you what, the employees at Enron feel violated. When a company town sees its plant closing because some distant executives made some decision despite the wage concessions, despite the tax breaks, and they see their entire economy collapsing, they feel violence . . .

Breitbart…FoxNews…Drudge…somebody will have another bombshell video to add to the growing evidence that reveals who Obama is and what he believes. Fast and Furious, Solyndra, Benghazi, Joe Corzine, the Arab Spring, and a host of other scandals have been ignored by the media. Any one of these should be enough to end Obama’s hopes for a second term, yet he appears to be tied going into the last few weeks of the campaign. How can that be?

It’s simple: we have facts; they have dog whistles.

We have facts; that is our strength. They have dog whistles; that is their strength…and weakness. Take away the dog whistle and not only does their offense crumble, it exposes the reality that they possess no defense.

I’m not saying that what Enron executives did to their employees is the moral equivalent of what Bull Connor did to black folks ..

If you say that the cops and the accountants are both keeping people down in their own “forms of violence” how are you not trying to equate them?

“firehoses and attack dogs to keep people down but also accountants and tax loopholes to keep people down”

How many of you accountants knew you were just like an attack dog, and being used to keep people down?

“When a company town sees its plant closing because some distant executives made some decision despite the wage concessions, despite the tax breaks, and they see their entire economy collapsing, they feel violence . . .”

So, the people who worked in the dealerships closed under Obama have been done violence.

You can name your own instance of the violence done by Obama, since there are thousands.

The comments on nonviolence are closer to being a bombshell (for the average person) than the tape last night.

However, what he’s saying is nothing you won’t hear on any college campus.

That is an interesting video.

But let’s remember this one too.

Of all the Barack Obama video out there, this is probably the most significant clip for most Americans…

We need to remind voters of this.

“THE MASK FALLS AWAY: WE SEE BIGOT, LIAR, AND INCOMPETENT”]

What a heck of a day—we saw your “mask” fall away
And you can’t blame your own Media for your loss!
Since we’ve seen the “real you”, the faithful you knew,
Are now leaving to find a new “boss”

Back then, you were feted and flattered
“I am your new savior”, you cried!
With teleprompter on, and smile firmly in place,
Few had cause to believe that you lied.

And those lies came so fast–you were sure they must last,
After all, you had carefully planned,
To subvert and destroy the Republic you loathed,
Would be done in four years at your hand!

We all started so well, on your “highway to hell”,
You and yours set a record for fraud.
That apology tour *seemed* a rousing success!
But we’re watching OUR GUYS DYIING abroad.

Still, your lies kept improving, your policies moving,
Us closer and closer to a crash.
“Curb free speech”, “run on wind”; “we’ll let everyone in”,
And those “seniors”?—sorry; just don’t have the cash!

Since “the start of the end”, you must wonder again,
“How in hell” did we “rubes” find your flaws?
With your Media Whores, you should win all the wars!
You finagled and mangled our laws!

It took time BUT WE LEARNED that you never had earned,
Even ONE THING you claimed to be true.
(“But I sealed EVERY record” you whispered to friends),
AND NO ONE PLAYED “RACE CARDS”LIKE YOU!

Your plan’s fallen apart, and you don’t have the heart,
To “regroup”, “start again” or “revise”.
When proofs came of your historic deceptions,
You could’nt keep straight your OWN lies!

You’re so horribly proud, you will NOT be allowed,
To just claim “one mistake” and move on.
    You’re dismayed at the fury of the PEOPLE YOU DECEIVED;
And you’re STAGGERED your opponent’s so strong!

You will try to “play through”, till the voters tell you,
That your adventure in GOLFING is done.
Pack your things, leave our House, you despicable louse,
And STOP saying that you were “THE WON”.

IT’S ALL COMING APART AND CRASHING DOWN
ROMNEY & RYAN WIN BIG – IN ONE MONTH!

A Branco cartoon flashed in my mind of a MSM personality holding up one corner of a large area rug, asking colleagues, “Any more videos of Pres. Obama before I put this down?”

Slightly off topic, but since the MSM has revealed its motives so shamelessly this election, I’d like to see Romney tell viewers to go to some blogs like LI, Instapundit, Hot Air, Powerline, etc. The RNC should do this, too. Bob Dole started this during his debates with Clinton, telling viewers to go to his website.

I thought it would be a good idea to start calling out MSM journ-o-lists by name, but that would give them attention and give them a chance to deceivingly “fact check” charges against them.

Mitt, tell viewers to check out LI and Instapundit tonight. It would take two seconds. LI and other blogs help publicize each other … isn’t it about time the big guys started helping the troops in combat?

LukeHandCool (who occasionally checks the twitter account of his classmate, who is the media critic for the LA Times. When Biden made his “chains” comment, this guy had one tweet about it, supportive of Biden. Romney’s 47% remark elicited dozens of tweets by this guy. About the Obama video last night? He tweeted a link to a David Frum piece, and declared, “Obama’s right: we failed black New Orleans after Katrina.” There’s an even-handed journ-o-list for you. He was also one of the half-dozen or so guys mentioned by Media Mutters as a journ-o-list who eagerly uses their crap. What a hack).

LukeHandCool in reply to LukeHandCool. | October 3, 2012 at 12:42 pm

I see Instapundit is on his case. I hope this doesn’t result in his B.S. getting a 10,000% increase in traffic.

Doug Wright in reply to LukeHandCool. | October 3, 2012 at 3:40 pm

Was it truly Insta or was it that substitute lady lawyer from Mad Town, your know, the occasional centrist / Socialist blonde type lawyer, doing her usual vacation fill in job for the Instapundit? 🙂

Holy Smokes…!! And, NONE of this stuff was used(and validly so, dammit)in the ’08 campaign?!

Naturally, we’d be WACISTS to use it now,’Yo. Wascally Wacists…would we not..?

Nobody in the MSM-Lapdog Media holds this cheap punk and Moral Coward ACCOUNTABLE. This T-Rex Guy is SICK of it.

Everyone should know where that lecture is being given. It is at the University of Chicago in Rockefeller Chapel, the main facility for public events. The people who got him on the part time faculty at the law school knew exactly what they were getting. Some enterprising conservative journalist ought to track down who exactly wanted him at the law school (supposedly someone on the Board of Trustees) and why.

“but I’ll tell you what, the employees at Enron feel violated.”

Really? This couldn’t be how the American taxpayer feels after $5 trillion in new debt and a trillion dollar “stimulus” that served as a slush fund for PE unions and your other democrat activist cronies, could it? Or maybe how we feel after the billion dollars spent on your vacations and personal accoutrements at our expense?

Or how about the thousands of new regulations and 16,000 new IRS agents to “keep people down.”

Where’s that famous “empathy” now, you lying POS?

Feeling the government boot on your throat day after day whether by the IRS or by regulation, seeing the empty perverse joy of a non-taxpayer holding a free government cell phone, knowing that human flourishing is being replaced with food stamp dependency and not caring that the crushing burden of government debt will be put on our children and grandchildren is violence enough Obama. Sit down and shut up.

That last sentence about the company moving away ties into the approach taken with Boeing and moving to South Carolina. We also see it with the Regional Equity Movement and the Building One America conference. Part of the allure of the Green Growth economy is that it requires state direction, redesign, and coercion. The idea Van Jones touts in an essay he wrote that relates to his interest in REM and Environmental Justice is that the government gets to dictate Who gets the jobs, where they will be located, and what qualifications merit hiring. Think of the Green Economy as the ultimate in Political Favorites Economy.

http://www.invisibleserfscollar.com/distributive-justice-is-not-enough-we-must-break-the-illusion-of-the-unitary-self/ is the post I wrote on how the vision for education this Administration is mandating fits in with REM. The Break the Illusion of the Unitary Self is from a quote by an Ohio State prof. It is an example of the acute determination to use education and economic policy to destroy remnants of individualism, personal liberty, and economic freedom.

The material in this area is amazingly graphic and reflects a great deal of overt hostility most of us believed we had moved on from. After all that was a big part of the result in November 2008. Instead race is becoming the philosophy to justify crippling a nation.

As I said last night, he’s a Hypocrite.

Midwest Rhino | October 3, 2012 at 12:30 pm

I admire Obama here, for (apparently) praising Bush for bringing Enron to justice. This was after years of Clinton abetting Enron, as he wallowed in the stock market bubble.

Praising Bush
Scolding Clinton
Good job Barack

This explains why guns stores have enjoyed record sales these past 3+ years.

Midwest Rhino | October 3, 2012 at 12:54 pm

As executive in chief, what has Obama done to bring justice to the bankers or others that caused the meltdown which required TARP to “save”? He’s done nothing. His justice department instead goes after Boeing for creating jobs in a right to work state.

That Chicago yard banner listed failed companies Obama funded, all with ties to campaign money. His fiery and divisive language conflates rich criminals with all rich, (throwing in a good dash of racism for extra spiciness), even as Obama rewards his rich bundlers. Reform is needed, but Obama sees a crisis as an opportunity for union control … and more crime than ever.

Meet the new boss, worse than the old boss. His bold promises to be a freedom fighter needs to be contrasted with his actions as president. All these old tapes reveal agitator Obama, the man big media worked hide to hide, while painting him with auras and unicorns.

A revealing video a day makes the Obama go away. 🙂

Bull Connor was a Democrat.

Let me repeat that. Bull Conner was a Democrat.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bull_Connor

Eugene Connor was a member of the Alabama Ku Klux Klan in the 1920s. Connor entered politics as a Democrat in 1934, winning a seat in the Alabama Legislature. As a legislator he supported populist measures and pro-union issues. He voted for extending the poll tax and against an anti-sedition bill meant to stifle union activity.[citation needed] He did not stand for a second term in 1936, instead running for Commissioner of Public Safety for the City of Birmingham. In 1936, Connor was elected to the office of Commissioner of Public Safety, beginning the first of two stretches that spanned a total of 26 years. Connor’s first term ended in 1952, but he resumed the post four years later.

In 1938, Connor became a candidate for Governor of Alabama. He announced he would be campaigning on a platform of “protecting employment practices, law enforcement, segregation and other problems that have been historically classified as states’ rights by the Democratic party.”

In 1948, Connor’s officers arrested U.S. Senator from Idaho, Glen H. Taylor, the running mate of Progressive presidential candidate (and former Democratic Vice President) Henry Wallace. Taylor, who had attempted to speak to the Southern Negro Youth Congress, was arrested for violating Birmingham’s segregation laws.

Connor’s concerted effort to enforce the law was sparked by the group’s reported communist philosophy, with Connor noting at the time, “There’s not enough room in town for Bull and the Commies.” During the 1948 Democratic National Convention, Connor led the Alabama delegation in a walkout when the national party included a civil rights plank in its platform.[3] The offshoot States’ Rights Democratic Party (Dixiecrats) nominated Strom Thurmond for president at its convention in Birmingham’s Municipal Auditorium[4

… In 1960, Connor was elected Democratic National Committeeman for Alabama, soon after filing a lawsuit against The New York Times for $1.5 million, for what he said was insinuating that he had promoted racial hatred…

Textbook marxist radicalism from Obama, Community Organizing 101:

First you make passive, nonviolent oppression (real or perceived) equivalent to real violence, thereby justifying your violent response to that oppression you’ve redefined as violent.

9thDistrictNeighbor | October 3, 2012 at 2:09 pm

A) Where was this stuff four years ago?

B) Mitt had better not go all John McCain on us and act sheepish about his hard-earned wealth.

C) Can anyone with common sense not find these to be the words of a very mean person? No wonder Michelle always has that look on her face.

ShakesheadOften | October 3, 2012 at 2:11 pm

It also shows the general leftist tendency to assume that everyone who is rich got that way by cheating and stealing from others. Enron is an extreme outlier. Most people who get rich get that way through a combination of effort, intelligence and, yes, a bit of luck (luck = preparation meets opportunity AND effort).

He says the rich don’t support violence because they got theirs? But the “rich” generally didn’t USE violence to get theirs, even metaphorical violence.

This also exposes the other problem with fomenting class warfare in the U.S. We don’t have a caste system here, and most wealth vanishes by the third generation. In other words, unlike other countries where class systems HAVE led to warfare (e.g., France, Russia) the “rich” are not a static group. Opportunity exists, even if the left doesn’t want to believe it. Is it a fully level playing field? No, accidents of birth certainly have an influence (we’d be foolish to deny it). But, unlike a caste system, birth does not mean you have NO chance. If Obama has his way, though, NO ONE will have a chance, but for the largesse of government, which will of course eventually run out of other people’s money.

[…] on record clinging to guns and religion — if by religion we mean Marxism of sorts.  Via Legal Insurrection comes the following MLK Day […]

In this speech a couple weeks after Hurricane Katrina, the main point that I noticed that Pres. Obama’s speech resolved around was the charge that everybody has an “empathy deficit”. That is a judgment that truly not his to make, and it affects his thinking and actions deeply.

THe whole meme is nonsense. I’m rich by Obama standards and I love me some violence. Just look at me wrong and I’ll riot.

TrooperJohnSmith | October 3, 2012 at 7:50 pm

“Rich folks” (read that as ‘taxpayers’)and most other folks are all about non-violence. However, at that point, there is a fork in the road.

henceforth, some of us “rich folks” are for non-violence and stay that way through our embracing of the Second Amendment.

Other “rich folks” on the Left Coast, in NYC, D.C., Sh!tcago, Dee-troit, F’ing Philly and other bastions of LeftThink prefer to embrace their non-violence cowering in their safe rooms, behind 14 dead-bolt locks and in their gated communities. All the while, the “not so rich folks” in their cities are left to their own plebeian devices, such as running, hiding, surrendering their valuables and ending up on slabs in the city morgue and/or on the government dime in public hospitals.

Such is the choice between freedom and stateism.
