Strikewatch: False rumor of CPS CEO’s resignation leads to premature celebrations

Union crowds erupted into chants of “Brizard just resigned!” and danced to “RESPECT” shortly after noon central time when a rumor swept through the crowds that the Chicago Public Schools CEO had stepped down. Only problem: it was completely made up.

In response to the teachers’ celebrations, Jean-Claude Brizard sent an email out reminding everyone of his commitment to the staying with the Chicago Public Schools:

At yesterday’s protests, teachers hinted that there needed to be some “fall guy” to facilitate an agreement between Mayor Rahm Emanuel and the teachers, who are rejecting a 16 percent raise offered by the city because of the inclusion of merit pay requirements and lack of air-conditioning in some schools. Today they are marching at three separate locations, as Occupy continues to take the lead on bringing “solidarity” protesters and organizing the strike protests via twitter.

“We say no, teachers are not the root of the problem,” [Union official Debby] Pope told the group gathered in the bar. “The root of the problem is the way capitalism is destroying public schools.”

Leaves little doubt about the real target here, right?

Yeh, Rags, its a real bummer when reality rears its ugly capitalistic head and sez “there’s no mo money”. Makes a career classroom failure want to hurl. “Who do these working class citizens think they are?”

Yah, just think how our education system would be destroyed by more capitalism…

      like the cell phone industry.

      Oh. Wait…

One thing that groups like this have succeeded in since Obama’s been in office has been to shake me out of the silly fog that enables people to praise the work of teachers while loathing their unions. People really need to stop doing that. You’re mostly dealing with morons with degrees from Mickey Mouse ed schools, and they aren’t sacrificing the ability to be highly-paid professionals in order to do something noble. They’re simply working in the only job available to them that doesn’t require heavy lifting or the ability to operate a cash register.

Or brush your teeth, judging by some of those smiling loons!

Regarding “Mickey Mouse Ed schools”—you are absolutely right. Once upon a time, I was a high school teacher with an undergrad degree in History from what once was a very selective liberal arts college in Ohio and a graduate degree in History and Education from Columbia University (yes, the same as our dear leader…I never saw him there either). I could not get a position anywhere. When presented with a “Mickey Mouse” degree or my background, they chose Mickey Mouse (specifically Montclair State—yes it’s Mickey Mouse I said it and its true). Yup, that Kenyon-Columbia axis—we’re real rabble-rousers.

As for operating a cash register, I once went to a teacher store for something for my son; there I met a first grade teacher from his former school. She could not make simple change without a calculator. That was quite a motivator for my son: ‘Miss “P” can’t do simple subtraction, can you?’

In case you’re wondering, yes, I homeschool my son now.

CPS is where Mastery Learning, the foundation predecessor to Outcomes Based Education, was invented and piloted. When it had horrendous effects they simply renamed it. It is also where Everyday Math came from and where the royalty checks go to.

Now we know that it is where the Best Practice scam to push a radically different kind of teaching and learning was created. The Joyce Foundation provided the seminal grant in the early 90s and the Chicago Annenberg Challenge helped fund and push its development. Contrary to just being another guy in the neighborhood, this is what Ayers, Obama, and Arne Duncan are now mandating nationally via the duplicitous Common Core actual implementation. http://www.invisibleserfscollar.com/didnt-the-president-just-admit-ccssi-was-a-ruse-to-change-classroom-interactions/ is the story I wrote explaining the scam coming to a school near you soon.

Piloted by these people in Chicago plus their CASEL push of social and emotional learning as the real learning for all. To me these are the tapes of adults who think that teaching is just another union job.

The kids do not matter and neither do the taxpayers.

The Chicago Way.

Arne Duncan was a corrupt thugocrat himself, too.

Quite a scandal over the VERY different school systems in the city, and how you could essentially (HAD to essentially) buy your kid into one of the “not awful” schools for the prols.

I bet the private sector workers watching from their offices are so happy they live in the suburbs.
