The New York Post reported late Saturday night that a bribe of $150,000 was offered to Reverend Jeremiah Wright from one of President Barack Obama’s “closest friends” for Wright to keep quiet, and that Obama personally met with Wright to plead with him to refrain from speaking in public. In an interview with Edward Klein, Rev. Wright elaborated:
Barack said he wanted to meet me in secret, in a secure place. And I said, “You’re used to coming to my home, you’ve been here countless times, so what’s wrong with coming to my home?” So we met in the living room of the parsonage of Trinity United Church of Christ, at South Pleasant Avenue right off 95th Street, just Barack and me. I don’t know if he had a wire on him. His security was outside somewhere.
And one of the first things Barack said was, “I really wish you wouldn’t do any more public speaking until after the November election.” He knew I had some speaking engagements lined up, and he said, “I wish you wouldn’t speak. It’s gonna hurt the campaign if you do that.”
The Washington Post, all too happy to cover in detail the now-discredited story about Romney’s supposed bully incident, has yet to report on the story. Perhaps they’re still busy re-editing their myriad Romney hit pieces. John Hayward at Human Events writes:
Much worse for the Post was a statement released by John Lauber’s sister Betsy, which reads, in full: “The family of John Lauber is releasing a statement saying the portrayal of John is factually incorrect and we are aggrieved that he would be used to further a political agenda. There will be no more comments from the family.”
Wow. Just… wow. The Post apparently didn’t bother clearing their smear job with the victim’s family, even though they interviewed both Christine and Betsy Lauber for the piece. They thought they were contributing to a respectful tribute, not an ugly partisan hit.
Christine Lauber told ABC News that her brother never mentioned the allegedly life-destroying traumatic incident related by the Washington Post, and “probably wouldn’t have said anything” even if something like it did happen, because he presumably was not the fragile character he has been portrayed as. Furthermore, she tearfully insisted that “if he were still alive today, he would be furious” over the Post story.
But wait! This gets worse. Someone at the Post apparently panicked after Stu White spilled the beans to ABC News, because they committed one of the greatest sins in journalism: they quietly edited the Romney hit piece without publishing a retraction, as Breitbart.com requested in writing.
We have a right to be righteously indignant over the carelessness with which the media have skimmed over Barack Obama’s past and current affiliations. As the Washington Post concocts ways to vet Romney, perhaps they’d be better off doing some catch-up work on the one who has the keys to the ignition.

This is sick. You’re sick. The President attempted to pay hush money to a raging anti-American preacher with whom he was closely identified for twp decades and you totally ignore it but instead devote hours of coverage to an adolescent prank froma half-centruy ago. You’re not just a national embarassment. You’re not just a disgrace to your profession. You’re sick. You’re so sick you don’t even know it so you have to be told.”
The American people need to hear this. We need to move from just sensing the sickness in our national subconscious to openly talking about it.
Before the first sentence is out of the brave speakers mouth, they would be speaking to a dead mike. Libds and Ron Paul supporters can not allow free speach to the extent of being critical in any way to their point of view. aaaaaathey fear that too many people would see the truth and act accordingly.
At what point is WaPo going to be sued for these kinds of lies? lies of omission and distortion of the facts?

I had not heard this until I just read this post. This is why I no longer subscribe to this so called “newspaper”. They are basically surrogates for Obama and the dems. Do these idiots at Wash Post realize people have the internet now? People will find out, and then know that these so called “unbiased” “newspapers” are selectively using information to overexpose, and underexpose.

Does anyone know when that interview was conducted? The article is not clear on that or I missed it. Had anyone ever heard of this before? Was it a recent interview or did it happen at the time the whole “G-D America” kerfuffle was going on? If it was, why are we just hearing about this now?

What I find even more surprising than what the WaPo did was that anyone would be surprised by it. This is just the first salvo in what is going to be one of the most underhanded, lowdown, brutal and all out gangster elections we’ve ever witnessed, at least here in the U.S. So you’d better get your high water boots on because the creeks raising and some folks are going to get washed away. I only pray it isn’t our side.

as long as you insist on belaboring this romney-the-bully story, may i ask one question? since when is the family the authority on anti-gay bullying that may have been suffered by their kid ? just because they say they have no recollection of the incident doesn’t mean that it didn’t happen. heck, even in these ‘enlightened’ times, we can barely get parents or school officials to acknowledge the hell gay kids go through. why should we believe that they were totally on top of the issue some fifty years ago?

I hope this author has this interview with Wright taped because he’s going to get skewered like he did when he wrote the Hillary book. If you read the transcript from the Franken interview about the Hillary book, Ed Klein was unable to stand behind some of his assertions and it made him look somewhat inept.
So I hope he’s learned from that and has audio of the interview with Rev Wright and then tried to verify it from other sources. Because thw White House is going to call him a liar or a known fabricator.
Just like the Washington Post should have done and is now justifiably getting the story torn apart.

Shortly after the last presidential election, the Washington Post published an Ombudsman column admitting that their coverage of the Obama campaign was not thorough, and may well have contributed to his election.
The Washington Post has been running through Ombudsmen lately.
Two months ago, though a subscriber for almost 40 years, I got that Popeye feeling, as in “That’s all I can stands cause I can’t stands no more!”, and called to cancel my subscription. They were so desperate to keep from losing yet another subscriber that they offered to reduce my monthly fee from $43.60 to a mere $10.00. Guess I could have been more principled, but hey, old habits are hard to break. As a conservative, I certainly strive to conserve my dwindling resources…especially at the expense of pathetic propogandists like the wapo. And if it helps any of the fine posters at legalinsurrection, well, like someone used to advertise, “Try it, you’ll like it!”.
