Newt surging in Iowa

Not really surprising, a trend I have been seeing for quite some time, and boosted by his strong speech at the Iowa GOP Reagan Dinner.

Via Political Wire:

A new We Ask America poll in Iowa finds Herman Cain leading the GOP presidential field with 22%, followed by Newt Gingrich at 18%, Mitt Romney at...

Gingrich Wins Newt-Newt ‘Lincoln-Douglas’ Debate (and Tweet of the Night)

It was 90 minutes of Newt showing why he is the smartest guy on any stage, and I mean that as a compliment.

Newt was in command, and had a particularly good explanation of how to respond to Democratic scare tactics on social security.  One of the best I’ve heard.  When I...

Herman Cain and Newt Gingrich are having a Lincoln-Douglas style debate tonight in Texas, starting at 8 p.m. Eastern.

I’ll be doing a live blog for it, and I’ll try to embed the <...

I really don’t want this to turn into one of those foul-mouthed blogs, but this is pushing me to the limit:

Asked if the country’s consistently high unemployment rate made him vulnerable in the upcoming 2012 election, Obama insisted “the least of my concerns at the moment is the politics of a...

Chewing through the not-Romneys, leaving Newt

As you know, I’ve been inching closer towards Newt as the not-Romney.  I don’t believe being not-Romney is enough, and of all the remaining candidates, I believe that Newt has the ability to articulate a vision of this country which establishes him as the candidate to take on Barack Obama even if...

Romney and Perry are doing each other and themselves damage by going at it in the way they have been, which at times seems childish, petty and insincere, which has even such mainstream commentators as John Podhoretz (A Pack of Nonsense) and Scott Johnson (Send in the Clowns) begging them to get serious.

Frank Luntz did a focus group on Hannity last night regarding the Las Vegas debate.  The group confirmed my view that Newt is rising.

I can’t find a video of it, but NewsMax has a partial transcript.  The group found that Newt won the debate hands down, and reacted very negatively...

My assessment of the Vegas debate remains the same at the top of the ticket, Perry won by exceeding expectations.  There were some negatives to his performance, such as the issue of Romney’s lawn care company hiring illegals, which even if it was worth a mention hardly was the gotcha it...

Not going to “live blog” but will have some observations.

END GAME:

Perry the winner not because he was so much better than the others, but because he was so much better than he was previously.  He may have revitalized his campaign tonight.  Cain was damaged, but not fatally.  Romney was okay, held...

and I wish he was right.

The fledgling candidate announced in Iowa that he is going to propose a newer Contract with America:

It “will be 10 times deeper and more comprehensive than 1994,” he told an audience of about 40 people Monday night in Council Bluffs. “Because the truth is, while we...

Newt rising?

Newt Gingrich has found his voice in the recent two debates.  He has been the most forceful and articulate voice lancing Obama and everything Obama stands for.

Sure, Newt has the “baggage” but he is rising?

Don’t Pile On Newt

Newt’s campaign has its troubles.

But there’s no reason to pile on Newt because of the Tiffany’s credit line story.  That’s just how the media does it; what difference does it make how he spends his money as long as it’s legal, nothing that touches on character, and he pays his bills?

Prying into...

This always happen.  I’m away from the internet for most of the day — en route this time to my in-laws’ 65th wedding anniversary weekend in Florida — and stuff happens.

Yawn.  Chuck “my flight attendant is a bitch and Scott Brown is an far-right teabagger” Schumer is threatening to use Newt’s criticism of Paul Ryan in the 2012 election cycle.

That should make a big difference.

Just like this statement by a prominent Republican candidate ruined the careers and electoral prospects of...
