This is a follow up to my post After passing immigration amnesty, Republicans should go on an overseas apology tour.

There’s one sentence in Lindsey Graham’s prediction of a “breakthrough” passage of the Gang of 8 bill which is particularly troubling:

“I think we are going to get plus 70 votes,” he said....

If Lindsey Graham, Marco Rubio and others in the Republican Party want to reward adults who broke the immigration laws with citizenship, they should have the guts to announce it as such.

And then go on an overseas apology tour to apologize to the millions if not tens of millions of people...

From Mickey Kaus:

“Multiple triggers”/Legalization is immediate. DHS just  has to write border  “plan.”  The most any “triggers” can possibly do is delay green cards  and citizenship.

“90 % effectiveness”/ If not reached, triggers only toothless commission. … Also: “90%  effectiveness”–as defined by DHS–is really more like 50%.

“Pay back taxes”/ Only if already “assessed” by...

To say that there is disgust growing in the ranks is an understatement.

If adults who broke the law to come here illegally get citizenship, it will be a spit in the face of millions of legal immigrants who followed the rules, and many millions more who wait patiently on the other...

While you were watching the Obama Scandals and the NSA leaks, Harry Reid was moving the Gang of 8 immigration bill to a vote.

The Gang of 8 got a big boost when Sen. Kelly Ayote endorsed the bill this weekend.

But hope is not lost. From Byron York,

Supporters of the Gang of 8 bill are going to have to do a lot better at making the argument for amnesty than playing off Marco Rubio’s birthday.

From a senior executive at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce:

I received an insightful email from reader Karen Sacandy:

Dear Professor Jacobson:

I’m among your many grateful readers, but at this time, the Democrats are like Thomas Crown in the flick, “The Thomas Crown Affair,” who created a distraction over here, while over there, he was stealing a multimillion dollar painting.

But in this...

The Obama administration has turned the immigration laws into a bigger joke than they already were, through administrative decisions not to enforce the laws.

Obama unilaterally created rules allowing so-called “Dreamers” to stay under certain conditions, and no surprise, 99.2% of those applying are getting approved.  That policy has been held by a federal...

The lawmakers did not provide details as they left a...

The Gang of 8 immigration bill has brought forth some clarifying moments.

Not the least of which is that there is bipartisan demagoguery in support of the bill using the straw man argument that the issue is hostility to immigration.

Obama and Grover Norquist both are suggesting that hostility to immigration is...

Amnesty, and particularly citizenship, for people who broke the law to get here is bad policy because it rewards law breakers and advantages them over law abiders.

It’s also very costly, as a study released by the Heritage Foundation demonstrates, The Fiscal Cost of Unlawful Immigrants and Amnesty to the...

Rewarding law breakers is not a good idea, whether we’re talking about the securities laws or the immigration laws.

The Gang of 8 plan rewards law breakers.  We’re told that we need to legalize law breakers because it’s the humane thing to do.  But in so doing, whether it results in citizenship...

A copy of the...
