It's been 15 years since I joined Cornell, and yesterday my contract was renewed for another 5 years. I'll be 69-years-old at that point. Assuming I stay until then, I'm still not taking another official photo. Enough is enough....

Not for nothing, there is life after Amazon. Walmart.com isn't quite up to Amazon's website ease of use, depth of user reviews, or breadth of product, but it's getting a lot better. And the price is the price and the shipping (or free shipping) is what it is. Do a test at Amazon, price products using Prime for "free" two-day shipping, then price the products without Prime with regular shipping.

I was in Durham, NC, earlier this week, where my wife received treatment from doctors at Duke Medical Center. With plenty of time to spare, it occurred to me that I should get a selfie at the Duke Lacrosse house to post on the website. While the 2006 prosecution and April 2007 dropping of all charges pre-dated Legal Insurrection, the false accusations, mob mentality, and faculty perfidy seemed to be a prelude to the campus due process disregard emboldened later by the Obama administration.

Last weekend I traveled to Roslyn, NY, on Long Island, for my 40th high school reunion. No high school experience is perfect, but Roslyn and Roslyn High School in the 1970s were great places to grow up. I've mentioned Roslyn in passing before, in my post when Richie Havens died, how I saw him at the small music venue in Old Roslyn Village that attracted top talent, My Father’s Place.

As a safety professional, one of the most chilling books in my job-based collection is Death in Yellowstone. The work offers many cautionary tales about one of our most famous and treacherous national parks, many of which stem from tourists ignoring the numerous warning signs about intense heat of the colorful pools of highly acidic water. Many visitors, unused to the great outdoors, fail to recognize the serious safety hazards associated with the park's volcanic features and wild animals. This lack of awareness has claimed another victim, as reports are now emerging about a tragic incident that occurred this summer that claimed the life of a young man, Colin Scott. It appears that he and his sister were hoping to use one of the area's hot pools as a natural jacuzzi.

Though it's seemingly impossible to discuss the tragic tale of Cecil the lion without invoking a comparison war, there is an entire part of this story that those with their hair ablaze forgot to consider -- what do Zimbabwean's think? It appears I'm not the only one pondering the African perspective. While Americans are calling for the extradition of the dentist who killed Cecil the lion and the hashtag #lionlivematter was trending on social media, Zimbabwe had one question -- what lion?

You might need the Kleenex for this one. An eight-year-old boy is the first pediatric recipient of a double hand transplant. When he was only two-years-old, a life threatening infection lead to the amputation of both hands and feet. He also received a kidney transplant from his mother.
