Betsy DeVos, who served as Education Secretary under Trump, recently said that the Department of Education should not exist and even called for its abolishment. She made the remarks while addressing the group 'Moms for Liberty.' People on the left are clutching their pearls.

The Department of Education announced Wednesday that the Improving Free Inquiry, Transparency, and Accountability at Colleges and Universities final rule will "ensure that public institutions of higher education uphold fundamental rights guaranteed by the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution and that private institutions of higher education adhere to their own policies regarding freedom of speech, including academic freedom."

I believe education is the most local issue. I'm not even talking state or city. Education should be up to the school districts. But we have a Department of Education, which thinks America could reopen schools in the fall. The left has demonized President Donald Trump and Secretary Betsy DeVos, yet it seems a few pediatricians agree with them.

Under Obama, the left advanced the narrative of "rape culture" on college campuses. The structure and rules surrounding the reporting of sexual assaults on campus sided overwhelmingly with accusers, and sometimes left the accused to be tried in campus kangaroo courts. As Trump's Secretary of Education, Betsy DeVos has tried to roll some of this back and return due process to campuses. Her efforts have been continually met with resistance.

Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos has become a target of the left for her efforts to reform former President Barack Obama era rules dealing with sexual assault on college campuses. She has been falsely accused of favoring the accused for simply advocating due process over kangaroo courts. Liberal feminist law professor Lara Bazelon agrees with DeVos.
