In another clip this a.m., Joe Scarborough said that he talked to a former Governor who said that he had a conversation four years ago with Mitt and asked him why he wanted to be President. That Governor said that Mitt couldn’t come up with an answer, ever after the Governor had asked him the question several times.
Our own Prog J has said about the same things…different words maybe but about the same gist. Good to know he’s not alone with his observations. Steve says
Richard Lugar hasn’t lived in the state of Indiana for more than 30 years. His campaign admits it, but says it is “immaterial” because it isn’t illegal due to some loophole in the law.
They just had a discussion on “Morning Joe” that Romney has been running on his support for the Ryan Plan, yet just last night promised that he wouldn’t touch Social Security or Medicare! I’m sure we’ll be able to find that clip shortly. (It was a discussion with John Heilman, Eugene Robinson and Mike Barnicle (sp).)
They showed the clip from last night where Romney talked about SS and Medicare and his promise.
Especially interesting is Tumulty’s explanation in the comments section of why she wrote the article:
“I am old enough (sadly) to have actually covered both of these events. And I was really startled to hear Romney say today that Gingrich had resigned as a result of the ethics charges. That was simply not true, which is why I felt compelled to write this blog post.”
Excerpt:
At the end of a long weekend of campaigning in South Florida, where the Cuban American vote has been largely emphasized, Mitt Romneys’ strong embrace of Puerto Rican statehood and an endorsement from Governor Luis Fortuño [emph. added], may signal a shift of momentum in favor of Romney among Latino Republicans in the Sunshine state.

Especially, as Sunny uncomfortably reminded us, since this is the same president who routinely sidesteps the law or places himself above it.
Even more troubling is the fact that the mainstream media not only seems to approve — but they fail to report it at all.”
From down in the comments:
“The surety bond is the private healthcare accounts in Ryan’s plan
This video is edited for a reason………to make it seem he’s talking about endorsing a mandate on buying insurance. when in fact he’s talking about making everyone responsible for their own healthcare ”
If the above assessment is correct, is Breitbart now also joining the Establishment bandwagon?
Fred Thompson says Mitt Romney has Matt Drudge in his back pocket…
“Thompson said that a story in Sunday’s New York Times depicts “Romney’s staff … patting themselves on the back, talking about how mean and down they are. How they’ve got Matt Drudge in their back pocket. And how Romney is in on all of it.”
For months, Drudge has been running a steady stream of pro-Romney and anti-Gingrich stories on his website, Drudge Report.”
Yes, Professor, it’s impossible to tell from the quality of the sound if Romney said “not” or not. But in a way, it doesn’t matter WHAT Romney says. Romney, like Obama, like Bill Clinton, will say anything to get elected.
I now think Romney will not attempt to repeal Obamacare. Didn’t someone in Romney’s campaign say a few days ago that Romney’s not going to repeal Obamacare? (Was it Norm Coleman? Did I read that? YET ANOTHER recently ignominiously defeated Republican?)
Romney is essentially Obama’s political twin: despicable campaign tactics; trying to swamp his opponent with money and lies.
This kind of scorched earth campaign is encouraged by our insane campaign finance laws because the PACS are not associated with the candidate’s name. The despicable consultants throw dirt and lies and personal attacks, and the politician, in this case, Obama or Romney, shrugs and says “who, me?” — they’re not accountable. Thanks, Senator McCain!! And you, Sen. Feingold!! Oh, and you, G.W. Bush — never met a bill you were willing to veto?
These negative ads are run, polluting our process and making the American people feel that our candidates are lower than low. HOW ARE THE CANDIDATES SUPPOSED TO REHABILITATE THEIR CHARACTER AFTER THEY WIN?????? This process makes even excellent candidates look like objects of contempt. This is degrading our political process and it has to be changed.
Newt sees this. Newt tried to run a positive campaign.
Newt’s criticisms of Romney are of Romney’s liberal policies and Romney’s unexplained? unfair? exploitative? predatory? — business practices.
But — I believe that Floridians are in the process of choosing Newt. I hope so. A new poll says Newt is surging again in Florida.
Newt may be a honey badger — maybe — and that’s not a bad thing to be, but Newt is also THE LITTLE ENGING THAT COULD. Slow and steady wins the race, Newt! Courage!! We’re with you!!
One of the things I am so eager for, if Newt wins the nomination, is, we will team up with a clear agenda, like with the original Contract With America.
Then when Newt and all these Congressional Reps and all these Senators are elected, we will have a very clear idea of what they will do. A very clear Agenda from Day ONE.
Also, with the Lean Six Sigma feedback loop, once that is designed and in place, we will be able to revisit things like our execrable campaign finance laws, which put all the advantages into the hands of the money men and the incumbents.
I am completely fed up with the Establishment.
I heard Newt on with Sean Hannity today, and Newt said that Michael Reagan, who is with Newt campaigning in Florida, told Newt that this campaign reminds him of what the Establishment tried to do to destroy the candidacy of Ronald Reagan in 1980. Reagan won and I think Newt is going to win, too.
I’m ashamed that Rush and some of our other important voices for liberty are so incoherent. Florida is Rush’s home state! Why does Rush sound incoherent and confused!
Also, to questions BAIN’S business practices is not to criticize free market capitalism. You will never persuade me that Rush Limbaugh can’t tell the difference between questioning one business’s practices and criticizing “capitalism.”
From the little I listened to of Rush today, it sounded to me like Rush doesn’t know that Newt has stated clearly that he, Newt, has concluded that the individual mandate is unconstitutional.
Newt says that although he did originally support an individual mandate, or a bond, or a tax credit and a mandate, or SOMETHING to address the problem of people with means (like over $75,000 per year) not buying insurance and free-riding and not paying their medical and hospital bills, THE MORE HE LOOKED AT IT, THE MORE HE SAW THAT IT WAS CLEARLY UNCONSTITUTIONAL AND UNWORKABLE.
Rush doesn’t know this?
Is Rush this uninformed on other topics? There’s something wrong when Rush doesn’t know something this well-known. Newt has said this time and again. Hey, Rush! Hey, Doctor of Democracy! Hey, Truth Detector!! When you’re doing show-prep, you might want to find out about this!
I heard Scott Rasmussen today on Hannity say that the American people are consistently 10 to 20 years ahead of the politicians on clarity about the best public policy. So it’s up to us.
I hope the TEa Party will support Newt and Newts wins tomorrow in Florida.
Then the American people can team up to make our laws conform again with the Constitution and the 10th Amendment.
God speed, Florida, we’re counting on you!! God speed, Newt!
And if you think that Newt is just saying anything to get elected, you can watch his speeches form the past few years and see that he is consistent and his ideas develop over the course of time. I highly recommend these speeches if you want to understand what we’re going to do to restore our country with Newt’s leadership.

If I were Newt…I might make it part of an Obama slam.
Obama farmed out alot of what NASA used to be…and from one point of view, I can understand. But I also wonder…who benefits? Certainly not NASA employees in Florida.
Maybe companies like SpaceX.
And who os ceo for SpaceX? A familiar name
A good and fairly done piece by York on the space program stuff folks like to pick at Newt over. When you see the entire context…as with most things…they make better sense
As an observation? Id have to assume Romney would have done about like Obama did with NASA…take it apart and farm out critical elements. What were left with at NASA is a politically correct collection of politicians disconected from the meat and potatos of space exploration.
Thats what Newt seems to want to turnaround. Put the dream back into the equation.
“This is the third [pro-life] event that he has declined to attend,” says Mason. “It seems he is not interested in engaging with social conservatives, not interested in defending his apparent pro-life conversions, and not interested in courting those who are pro-life or pro-marriage — both.”
I’m not a big social con kind of guy, but for someone who claims to have had a ‘road to Damascus’ moment on this issue not too long ago wouldn’t you think he’d show up? Guess he’s still going with the ‘I don’t need the base’ approach to the primary. Yeah, that’s going to work out well.
This is an old column from a month ago. You may have already covered everything here, but the information about his PACs’ donations was new to me. It’s a little past the half-way mark. I found an old AP column discussing this as well.
“Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi who’s fighting to repeal ObamaCare appeared on Greta, tonight, defending RomneyCare. She says Romney’s health care plan is not the same as ObamaCare and, in fact, Romney’s plan reduces costs. She goes on to say that Romney wants all states to impose similar laws (including mandates) and that she and is all for it.”
Mr. GINGRICH: Mr. Speaker, this special order and one other which will follow is on freedom’s future, the free world and the Soviet empire.
I want to focus on the reality of the Soviet empire, the Soviet transnational threat to freedom and security and the necessity for a sophisticated free-world response led by the United States.
I saw that too Juba, but remember we aren’t allowed to question Bain, because doing so is anti-capitalist; sick of that. Romney himself challenged Newt on earning a living as consultant, isn’t that anti-capitalist?
The conservative pundits and talk-radio heads have revealed they do have a stake in the end of this primary process. They in the end are trying to earn a living selling their books, and maintaining their audiences and having access to these same politicians.
All we can do is fight back, certo (Latin for battle.
I see Romney desperately wanting to be elected.
I see Newt desperately wanting to save America.
I saw this too. Don’t see it anywhere on drudge though. The new headline there is a sad looking Newt pic with “Sunshine State Turns Cloudy.” I don’t remember a 2 day picture of Romney before the South Carolina primary with a “South Carolina Turns Grim” or “Landslide expected.” It really is sickening to see the Newt pile on.

If anyone is interested this is the full speech cited by Jeffrey Lord which demonstrates Newt’s support for Reagan unlike the story presented by Elliot Abrams.

Also, gatewaypundit.com has a video of FL AG Pam Bondi saying that Romney wants RomneyCare in all 50 states.
Romney wants to repeal ObamaCare……and says this?
And, apparently Axelrod thinks Romney described ObamaCare perfectly:

Not sure if you’ve caught this yet but thought it worthy a look considering Romney’s defense of blind trusts.

TITLE: FREEDOM’S FUTURE: THE FREE WORLD AND THE SOVIET EMPIRE
SPEAKER: Mr. GINGRICH
http://tinyurl.com/7zygjxf
