Mitt Romney Attacks Capitalism in campaign for Governor!
Just another example of the hypocrisy of Mitt Romney
In his campaign for Governor of Massachusetts, the Romney campaign attacked the Democratic Lieutenant Governor candidate, venture capitalist Christopher Gabrieli, over the bankruptcy of a retailer that the venture capital firm had invested in:
… “Romney spokeswoman Shawn Feddeman said. “In this case, Chris Gabrieli took a Worcester institution and ran it into the ground.”
GOP attacks Gabrieli venture; Case of Maurice the Pants Man: Sutner, Shaun. Telegram & Gazette [Worcester, Mass] 22 Oct 2002: A1.
In his South Carolina Primary 2012 speech, Mitt Romney tried to hide behind the skirts of free enterprise in an attempt to prevent any examination of his business practices at Bain:
“When my opponents attack success and free enterprise, they’re not only attacking me, they’re attacking every person who dreams of a better future. He’s attacking you.”
In the same speech, Mitt Romney continued his attack on those who question his business record:
“And let me be clear. If Republican leaders want to join this President in demonizing success and disparaging conservative values, then they’re not going to be fit to be our nominee.”
By his own standard then, is Mitt Romney fit to be President?
Hmmmm…. maybe not such an outlier. Another FL poll has Gingrich up by 4 over Romney. Smallish, sample though… only 300 registered Repubs in the polling pool. No time to get cocky – to paraphrase Reagan: always run like your 10 points behind.
Get ready for it: Even conservatives are suggesting that Newt is “unstable.” This seems to be the line of attack that Romney, the Republican establishment, and the Left will use against Gingrich. (For example, I saw a December article at Slate that actually was called “Is Newt Gingrich Nuts?” and then unbelievably proceeded to diagnose him as having hypomania. http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/the_big_idea/2011/12/is_newt_gingrich_nuts_consider_the_symptoms_.html )
The following is from a traditionalist conservative website called “View From the Right.” Scroll down to the January 22, 2012 entries:
Those who support Gingrich support him largely because they think he can take the fight to Obama and win the general election, while Romney, they believe, is too much of a soft Republican moderate to do the same.

Let’s put aside our enthusiasms, our fears, our hopes, and our hype, and honestly ask ourselves a couple of very simple questions.
Can one reasonably imagine Mitt Romney losing the election for the presidency? Yes.
Can one reasonably imagine Mitt Romney winning the election for the presidency? Yes.
But can one reasonably imagine Newt Gingrich—Newt Gingrich!—winning the election for the presidency? No. It’s absurd, it’s impossible, it’s an off-the-planet fantasy.
If you’re not persuaded of what I’ve just said, ask yourself this: has America ever elected an obviously unstable character as president? No, it hasn’t. Obama, notwithstanding his anti-American leftism, is a stable character. Romney, notwithstanding his unstable policy positions, is eminently a stable character. Gingrich is eminently an unstable character.
Conclusion: if you want the Republican Party to have a reasonable chance of beating Obama next November, you cannot support Gingrich for the nomination.”

[With the belief this would carry far more punch under Mr. J's name than under my name in some lengthy string of comments...]
Abe Lincoln was quoted by Obama in his SOTU address. I wonder why he didn’t choose this Lincoln quote:
You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.
You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.
You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.
You cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down.
You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.
You cannot build character and courage by taking away men’s initiative and independence.
You cannot help men permanently by doing for them, what they could and should do for themselves.
