Atlanta Falcons — Atlanta Endangered Species
New York Jets — New York Solar Panels
Tampa Bay Buccaneers — Tampa Bay IRS Agents
Dallas Cowboys — Dallas Imperialist Committers of Genocide

As an educator, I thought that you might get a kick out of this story about how some Johns Hopkins students managed to game a professor’s grading system so that they all got As. Obviously, grading on the curve these days doesn’t mean exactly what it did when I was in college. 🙂
An anonymous contribution — allegories always fall short but this tries to capture the sequestration crisis …
A couple earns $58,000 per year, a little less than they used to before the economy went sour. But their real problem is lifestyle choices that cause them to spend too much, now up to about $100,000 per year. As a result, they have been racking up over $40,000 in additional credit card debt every year for the past four years.
As one might imagine, this can’t go on forever. The wife — too long a willing partner in the overspending — has become increasingly insistent that they need to dial back their lifestyle, but the husband refuses. He insists that she put in longer hours to increase their income (despite the fact that she already contributes more than half of the family income).
Things came to a crisis point last summer when they were about to max out their last credit card. He wanted her to work more, she wanted to cut back on the spending. In the end she only secured his promise to eventually agree to cutting back some spending as a condition of her applying for another credit card and putting in extra hours.
Since then, the spending has continued and the husband has refused to even talk about cutting, and insists that she put in even more hours. With the newest card now approaching its credit limit, the wife has insisted that she cannot and will not work double overtime unless something changes.
“FINE!” he exploded “We’ll do it YOUR way! We’ll cut back by … $2,000 a year! And here’s what is going to go first: the kids’ lunch money! Your cell phone. Pet food! There, are you happy now?!?
With that, he stormed out of the house, hopped in his car, and headed out for yet another round of golf.
Paul Rahe in Obama’s Next Move:
…the actual effects of cutting a few billion — not from the budget as it existed in 2012 but from its projected increase — should be trivial. But it is in the power of the President to make it painful; and, if this President is true to form, he will make it as painful as possible.
The name of the game for our President is to force a crisis that will eventuate in massive tax increases — first on high earners and then on the middle class more generally.
And a little more:
A great deal is at stake in this little tempest in a teapot. In the next few weeks, the Republicans can lay the foundation for a resurgence. Or they can demonstrate their fecklessness and their worthlessness.
As they say: RTWT.
I need to memorize this!
Fantastic video of a Law student dropping precident on an officer attmpting to stop him for open carrying.
1. Bill Moyers has put out a feeler for socialism. He didn’t say so explicitly, but read and decide.
The tone of his promised follow-up program will indicate how the trial balloon is received.
2. Iirc I’ve posted this scenario before: the Left wants to follow Obama with an Elizabeth Warren on his left. No serious attempt to impose socialism will be made for a decade or two, e.g. until the President after the President after Obama.
Hey Professor, in case you missed it. In your neck of the woods:
What a great, untold (to me) story. How ’bout a little more exposure, Prof.?
During President Barack Obama’s meeting with U.S. governors at the White House Monday, the president dismissed members of the press to hold a private, hourlong discussion with the visiting state executives. Whatever was said after the cameras left the room especially incensed South Carolina Republican Gov. Nikki Haley. . . .
“I could not be more frustrated than I am right now,” Haley told reporters after the meeting. She said that when she asked Obama if he would consider a last-minute plan to shave about 2 percent from the annual federal budget without increasing taxes, the answer was “no.”
“My kids could go and find $83 billion out of a $4 trillion budget,” Haley said. “This is not rocket science.”
Right. Because it isn’t a matter of “can’t”; it is a matter of “won’t try”.
I really find myself more and more inclined to conspiracy. There’s no other explanation.
CSCOPE curriculum in Texas schools is actually Communist Islamist propaganda (posted yesterday by The Right Scoop and Atlas Shrugs:
No wonder our children are near the bottom of all nations in achievement. They are being forced to embrace invented delusions and deceptions that go against reality, logic and evidence. This is actually a cause of insanity.
Michele Bachmann warned us.
CSCOPE is a national education curriculum. Children in all states using CSCOPE are getting indoctrinated.
It’s about bloody time someone puts this on the air…
Limbaugh: These are Not Normal Times
“Just a year ago actually almost to the day, February 23rd, 2009, President Obama said, quote, ‘And that’s why today I am pledging to cut the deficit we inherited by half at the end of my first term in office. This will not be easy. It will require us to make difficult decisions and face challenges that we have long neglected. But I refuse to leave our children with a debt that they cannot repay, and that means taking responsibility right now in this administration for getting our spending under control.'”

Here she is, announcing the Best Picture, backed by military members in dress uniforms…
As reported at WaPoo, Democratic lobbyist: “The worst-case scenario for us is the sequester hits and nothing bad really happens. And Republicans say: See, that wasn’t so bad.”
Glenn Reynolds (Instapundit) replies: “So I guess we can expect the Administration to make it as bad as it can.”
Ann Althouse: “That’s about the size of it.”
Some smart blog professor should print up a laminated card with the cases mentioned in that vid, and offer it in exchange for a nominal contribution to his blog.
“[Illinois State] House Democrats were given a lesson in the real-world consequences of ignoring the Seventh Circuit ruling when the 180-day stay expires on June 8th.
The technical review staff (legal beagles) told the Democrats that Alvarez was all wet in her office’s pronouncement and that inaction on passing a carry bill would have dire consequences for gun control in Illinois.
Specifically, House Democrats were told that Illinois would effectively have “Constitutional Carry” where anyone who was eligible to own guns could carry them freely in public without training, licensing, qualification and precious little in the way of restriction.
After a lot of back and forth, one Chicago Representative asked if someone could carry a loaded rifle into the Statehouse. He was told “Yes”.
It was reported that you could hear a pin drop for an uncomfortably long time after that as a stunned silence came over the room.” –JBoch

Israeli Sodastream: building bridges, not walls. Contrary to western criticism. Very nice video. A must see.
You would think by this time that the urbane sophisticates in the news media would be totally hip to the “Washington Monument” strategy, whereby the Park Service closes the most popular attractions first in the event of budget constraints. It’s the oldest bureaucratic trick in the book, and a mark of how far the corruption of our republic has proceeded: if the spenders don’t get their way, they’ll cut back first on the most essential services for which we presume to pay our first tax dollars.
Republicans should do more than just prepare legislation providing “flexibility” to the executive branch to administer these tiny budget cuts. They should prepare detailed budget cuts of their own department-by-department, providing exact line items of what programs can be cut or delayed under a sequester in the Dept. of Transportation, for example, so that it is not necessary to cut back on air traffic controllers in the towers, or food safety inspectors at USDA. They should announce these on a daily basis, as well as highlighting just one wasteful program in each department every day. The Pentagon should not be exempt from this, either. I’m sure the Pentagon can delay sexual harassment training programs for a few months, or can tell some colonels to drive their own cars to base instead of having a personal driver.
Sounds like good sense to me.
New Jersey next Friday will suspend enrollment in an insurance program for people with preexisting medical conditions mandated by the new federal health care law, officials said.
The state was directed to do so by the federal Department of Health and Human Services, which received limited funding from Congress to provide coverage in each of the 50 states. Without the suspension, the Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan would be in danger of running out of money to cover those currently enrolled, according to a message posted on the program’s website.

At least four of the musicians are Cornell grads, and it is rumored that they could frequently be found at the Rongo (for those not familiar with the area, its full name is The Rongovian Embassy to the USA), just up the road from that place sometimes called “Mythaca”.
Angelo Codevilla wrote an outstanding, long article in the American Spectator back in 2010 about America’s Ruling Class that most Tea Partiers identified with.
He’s now followed up with another fantastic article. The gist of it is that he thinks the Republican Party is going to break up and a third political party is now inevitable. Read the article for a history of how we got here and why he’s come to that conclusion.
That seminal essay at the Spectator is here. If LIans haven’t seen it and have the time, they might do well to read the Spectator piece before the Forbes one that builds on it.
“We have seen a doubling of fuel efficiency standards on cars over the next several years, so that is saving people money at the pump.”

How many chil’ren will be killed because of this stupidity…???
1. It is the job of centralized government (in peacetime) to protect its citizens’ lives, liberty and property. All other activities of government tend to diminish freedom and hamper progress. The growth of government (the dominant social feature of this century) must be fought relentlessly. In this great social conflict of the era, we are, without reservations, on the libertarian side.
2.The profound crisis of our era is, in essence, the conflict between the Social Engineers, who seek to adjust mankind to conform with scientific utopias, and the disciples of Truth, who defend the organic moral order. We believe that truth is neither arrived at nor illuminated by monitoring election results, binding though these are for other purposes, but by other means, including a study of human experience. On this point we are, without reservations, on the conservative side.
– William F. Buckley, 1955.
Still true today, too!
Hey, thieves and gun-confiscators-to-be: Don’t Mess With Texas!
Love The Blaze’s headline for this: Another Reason Why It’s a Bad Idea to Break Into a Texas Home: Armed Elderly Man Kills Home Intruder
Original story here.
The story: elderly man notices younger man trying to invade his home through a window. Elder man shoots once. Thief-to-be (with an 18-page-long rap sheet) was sent straight to his Maker at once.
His relatives are notified. They show up at the elderly man’s house to demand answers. “He should have been given a warning!” “He deserved a second chance!”
(A warning?!?!?!? A second chance?!?!?!?!? WTF?!?!? A long record from TX Police and Corrections was all the warning he needed. He got all the “second”, third, fourth, etc. chances he ever needed. He didn’t take them. He took his bet. This time, he lost – big time. Get over it.)
Methinks they want to make this into the next Trayvon Martin case…
“Jill, if there’s ever a problem, just walk out on the balcony … take that double-barrel shotgun and fire two blasts outside the house.”
Heh. Crazy Sherf Joe.
Conservative running for the Senate in the special election in Massachusetts
According to the Conservative Campaign Committee:
…conservative Republican Sean Bielat has announced he is running for this U.S. Senate seat. Bielat, you may recall, was the tea party conservative candidate who shocked the political world by running a strongly competitive race against Barney Frank in 2010 – in one of the most liberal congressional districts in the country.
Bielat, a Major in the U.S. Marine Corps, supports smaller government, less spending, lower taxes and more personal freedoms. He is the conservative candidate for this U.S. Senate seat.
Wow. Just wow.

That may be tooooo modest an aim. Obama would LOVE to have some cap and trade system for the added power.

Newt is spot on. As usual. http://www.humanevents.com/2013/02/20/gingrich-why-karl-rove-is-just-plain-wrong/
The full ABC transcript is here. Newt’s remarks are on p. 4. This too:
And, frankly, most of them — I’m embarrassed to say I thought election day we’d win. I couldn’t imagine this economy and Obama getting re-elected and that made me think if your airplane hits the mountain maybe you better buy new radar.
This is on the same wavelength as his December appearance on Meet the Press.
I keep saying, often influencing people without winning friends, that conservative reaction to the defeat is more ominous than the defeat itself.
“[Republican consultants] have existed in a system in which the candidate was supposed to focus on raising money and the smart consultant would design the strategy, spend the money and do the thinking.”
