Romney’s struggles fuel talk of brokered convention
(Reuters) – Presidential hopeful Mitt Romney’s struggles in Michigan are fueling speculation that Republicans might have to resort to a doomsday scenario and launch a frantic search for a 2012 savior at their nominating convention in late August.
Newt Supporters Don Chicken Costumes at Georgia Welcome Home Rally
Peachtree, Georgia – It’s not often that you find men dressed up as live poultry dancing in the political limelight, but that was the scene at Newt Gingrich’s homecoming rally, with one yellow chicken donning a Mitt Romney t-shirt and the other wearing a Rick Santorum one.
“It’s Mitt-chick and Rick-chick!” a Gingrich supporter said gleefully, pointing to the signs the costumed men carried, which read “I’m chicken to debate Newt” and “76 delegates but Mitt and Rick don’t want them?”
“Rick Santorum thought he had Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine’s endorsement in his pocket, but he’ll have to work a bit harder on the campaign trail to get it back as the metal guitarist clarified his comments. “Contrary to how some people have interpreted my words, I have not endorsed any presidential candidate,” the rocker said in a release obtained by Billboard last night.”
Newt Discusses Our Three Great National Security Challenges
*****NOTE – The audio improves after the first few minutes*****
Newt discusses the need to have an honest national dialogue about radical Islamism, the danger of an Iranian nuclear weapon, and how a strategy of energy independence from the Middle East is the single most important long term national security imperitive we have.
How to vote as a dead person. One person’s experience. In a heavily democrat district. Sign in as your deceased your grandfather or the vote will go to waste.
The former House speaker and 10-term congressman from Georgia was dealt a setback today when CNN cancelled the one debate scheduled in the state before the primary. The debate was scrapped after the three other presidential candidates – former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania, and Rep. Ron Paul of Texas – all announced they would not attend. Gingrich, who has benefitted from strong debate performances, took a swipe at two of his rivals for backing out.
“I think what you’ve got right now is for very different reasons, Romney wants to hide behind negative ads,” he said. “And I think that if he doesn’t want to (debate), Santorum doesn’t want to do it because Santorum thinks he’s in the hunt with Romney. And that’s fine. There are lots of different ways to communicate to the American people.”
“A source familiar with what happened told Politico that a Paul campaign official approached Romney’s team last week about not participating in the CNN forum.”
A bunch of cowards, just what we need, one of them as the POTUS!
Foster Friess: In my day, women “used Bayer aspirin for contraceptives”
Foster Friess, a prominent backer of Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum, raised eyebrows Thursday when he offered up his own idea for a possible contraceptive method: “This contraceptive thing, my gosh, it’s so… inexpensive. Back in my days, they used Bayer aspirin for contraceptives.”
Friess’s implication is that if women hold aspirin between their legs, they won’t open them.
Republican Presidential candidate Rick Santorum is facing increasing scrutiny on some of his positions, especially on social issues. Women’s advocacy organizations are launching information campaigns about Santorum and statements he made in the past about birth control.
“Rick Santorum ought to be the worst choice for women,” Jess McIntosh, a spokesperson for EMILY’s List, told Hotsheet, but she also said Governor Mitt Romney’s latest policy positions offer women “no discernible” difference between the two candidates.
Each human has as his or her birthright, certain rights, beyond the reach of mortal men and women. And among them are the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
These freedoms are given to us at birth and politicians may not infringe upon these rights. The rights pre-exist, the are built in, they are inherent, the are.. inalienable.
We are born free. So the question is, how few laws do we need. Why bad political laws are holding down the economy. Why we have a TEA Party.

So, somehow, in any conflict, both parties must compromise in order to negotiate a settlement? This is what I read into your statement. Sad? Prof. Jacobson: If you want to play in the deep end of the pool you had better develop a thicker hide.
This is your house, Professor, and I didn’t come here to offend you but, obviously, you have been. For that, I apologise.
OK, let me come at it one more time. At the 50 sec mark of the interview Newt says that Israel “bears a lot of the burden” for the failure to resolve the conflict with the Palestinians because Israel hasn’t been able to convince them to live in peace.
Really? Murdering savages choose to remain murdering savages and Israel bears a lot of the burden for this? What the hell was he thinking? This is the side of Newt that bothers me. He is so confident of his intuitions that he glibly opines on any subject. Too clever by half, I believe is the expression.
Limbaugh’s “Half my brain tied behind my back, just to make it fair” washes very nicely on the stage he chooses to play on (and I certainly do not agree with every utterance that he makes).
By definition, even mild conflict represents a quarrel between two parties; thus evolves the premise that both parties assume the responsibility to act to resolve differences. Admittedly, I did not play the video, but I would tend to believe that it would not be posted here if it did not contain a favorable conservative viewpoint.
Perhaps you can share an eloquent quip from either Gov. Romney or Sen. Santorum that would blow away Newt’s eloquence and boldness to address such a controversial issue.
Your focus on a few words is ridiculous, I encourage readers to listen to the whole clip, including the words used before and after those cited by m.silo. Newt’s context of the dispute is right. He places primary blame on the Palestinians quite convincingly, but notes that the Israelis have missed opportunities too. R. Emmett Tyrrell, Jr. is the founder and editor in chief of The American Spectator.
Interesting comment by one of the posters:
“Need more proof that our beloved Mr. R Emmett Tyrell, Jr. is in the Romney bag? A little research brings forth one little connection—thank you Wikipedia:
Robert Emmett Tyrrell, Jr. (born December 14, 1943 in Chicago, Illinois) is an American conservative magazine editor, New York Times bestselling author, and columnist. He is the founder and editor-in-chief of The American Spectator. He writes under the byline R. Emmett Tyrrell, Jr. but is known socially as Bob Tyrrell. Tyrrell is a 1961 graduate of Fenwick High School in Oak Park, Illinois, where he was on the swim team. He then went to Indiana University where he was a manager for the notable coach James “Doc” Counsilman. While at Indiana University, he was a member of Phi Kappa Psi, living in a chapter house where Steve Tesich resided.
In 2000, government investigations of The American Spectator caused Tyrrell to sell the magazine to venture capitalist George Gilder. In 2003, Gilder, having a series of financial and legal setbacks, resold the magazine to Tyrrell and the American Alternative Foundation, the organization under which the magazine was originally incorporated, for a dollar.
In the 1960s Gilder served as a speechwriter for several prominent officials and candidates, including Nelson Rockefeller, George Romney, and Richard Nixon.
It seems Mr. Tyrell has been all over the blogosphere spewing his venomous attacks against Newt for the last year or so. One must wonder if anything that emanates from Mr. Tyrell’s keyboard has anything to do with the truth or journalistic integrity.”
“Romney also has a “young professionals” fundraiser planned for next month in New York, hosted by the hedge fund manager and former Obama backer Dan Loeb.”
Paul Rahe writes another good article about Obama’s flap with the Catholic Church.
This time Rahe explains Obama’s rationale: to humiliate the Church. Then if he wins re-election after making his flap with the Church a campaign issue, he’ll have a mandate to further diminish the Church’s role in society and complete the progressive experiment. Catholics have been the “useful idiots” of the Democrat Party, and if Obama wins re-election without them, they get thrown overboard in his second term. Catholic hospitals will be performing abortions in Obama’s second term.
Ugh – Rasmussen reports that Santorum has double digit polling lead in Ohio. Rick 42%, Mitt 24%, Newt 13%. I am hard pressed to find any news about Newt because the pundits have quit talking about him. Newt seems to have disappeared because he seems unable to create any news coverage.
Apparently the TEA Parties are no longer players or their leadership has forgotten the definition of conservative.
If, as Judson Phillips says in this post, Boehner was traumatized by a government shut-down in his youth, it would explain a lot. What’s the matter with John Boehner? Is it that he’s a coward, as Judson Phillips says?
“In a speech to the Mackinac Policy Conference, Newt Gingrich challenges Michiganders to embrace real change or continue to decay. He also outlines a series of bold solutions to create jobs and prosperity in Michigan.”
So it’s ok to screw the bondholders, but giving $350M to the union is ok. I think the workers should pay their “Fair Share” and pay it all to the tax payers that bailed them out!
“A CNN/Opinion Research poll on Monday showed 63 percent of All Americans viewed Gingrich unfavorably, compared to just 25 percent who saw him in a positive light.
And today, a new CBS News/New York Times poll shows a similar split: 54 percent view Gingrich unfavorably, compared to 16 percent who say they feel positively predisposed towards him.”
“And this finding is echoed in focus groups of voters run by Democratic pollster Peter Hart who said that while they were put off by Romney they found Gingrich the most likable candidate, reminding them of a favorite uncle or grandfather.”
by the way, newt’s network is always asking for help from all Americans, so if any reader wants to help Newt, you can go to newt’s network and sign up.
I am new around here, former lurker for a long time. However, if this has been posted before I apologize.

I just read this terrific article about the analysis and strategy of Newt’s campaign, and the five days of marathon meetings Newt’s campaign had during the week of the Nevada caucus.
Very interesting! If you like Newt, very encouraging. I appreciate the campaign letting us know their thoughts on the path to victory for Newt. Really.
Written by Randy Evans, who worked for Newt in the 90′s and also is part of the campaign now. A little glimpse and a lot of background.
I especially liked that he said the traveling reporters think New is the most likable and interesting of the candidates. Exactly how I feel!
Mormons apologize for posthumous baptism of Jewish rights advocate Simon Wiesenthal
Mormon church leaders apologized to the family of Holocaust survivor and Jewish rights advocate Simon Wiesenthal after his parents were posthumously baptized, a controversial ritual that Mormons believe allows deceased people a way to the afterlife but offends members of many other religions.
Has everyone read Politic Jim’s endorsement of Newt? It’s excellent and refers to a lot of original research. A must-read bonanza of favorable opinion for Newt.
Note that this happens during Democrat administrations. Their disdain for the military is well known (the Clinton’s thought they made great waiters for the WH functions. Obama had no idea how to respond when saluted and who can forget Corpseman). In their view, the military owes them and is only useful as a prop for their rhetoric. Nothing like POTUS standing in front of a bunch of Academy cadets making inane pronouncements. Of course when he has a chance to meet with the troops overseas he cuts it short. No sense shaking hands with people who are so stupid as to choose to serve (they think patriotism is a disease). Therefore naming ships after Cesar Chavez, John Murtha (really offensive), or Gabrielle Giffords is totally in character for Democrats.
I think this article is saying pretty much what you were saying a month or so ago. Bain Capital was going to be a problem for Romney this go around. There’s a chart included that makes it really understandable. Fair and favorable to Newt. It is not from the National Review (aka The Editors: “Against Gingrich”.)

IMO, this falls into the same category as whether cold fusion energy production is close to becoming a reality: “important if true.”

GM to pay union workers $7,000
http://m.usatoday.com/article/news/53113520
So it’s ok to screw the bondholders, but giving $350M to the union is ok. I think the workers should pay their “Fair Share” and pay it all to the tax payers that bailed them out!

Newt Gingrich: The most disliked politician in America
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the-fix/post/newt-gingrich-the-most-disliked-politician-in-america/2012/02/15/gIQAloLoFR_blog.html
Such a contrast to:
Evans: How Gingrich Wins the GOP Nomination
http://www.newsmax.com/Politics/evans-gingrich-wins-nomination/2012/02/13/id/429318

If you’re not sure what to do next, you can post a comment with a request and people will response and help you. They’ll help you get connected.
I did that and the people were wonderful.

Santorum’s “On the Couch With Pelosi” Moment?
Check out this bizarre ad by Rick Santorum set in an active wrestling ring where he boasts about working with Barbara Boxer and Hillary Clinton:

I guess it’s ok for him to “wrestle with Americas problems than with eachother” Oy! Double Standard!
