Last year, Melania Trump filed a $150 million defamation suit against UK-based Daily Mail and a Maryland-based blog, Tarply, for alleging the she was once employed by a modeling agency that was actually an escort service. The Daily Mail quickly retracted their post after a complaint was filed and Tarply retracted their post once legal action was threatened. Friday, Montgomery County Circuit Court Judge Sharon Burrell denied Tarply's requests to dismiss the suit.

Miami Mayor Carlos Gimenez has ordered municipal jails to comply with President Trump's recent Executive Order which reinforces federal immigration regulations and laws. In an interview with Fox and Friends Friday morning, Mayor Gimenez said, ""When the president (Donald Trump) issued his executive order, he just put an exclamation point for me on that issue. It really was a no-brainer. It's a $52,000 a year issue for Miami-Dade, so we will now go back to our 2014 policy that we will honor the detention requests regardless of the fact that the government says they'll pay for it."

President Trump met with his first foreign leader today -- UK Prime Minister Theresa May. From The Telegraph:
Mr Trump made sure to show Mrs May the bust of Winston Churchill which he returned to the the office. Standing alongside Mrs May, Mr Trump pointed to the bust and said: "This is the original. It's a great honour to have Winston Churchill back." A smiling Mrs May responded: "Thank you, we were very pleased that you accepted it back." At one point Mr Trump had a large lamp moved to give the cameras a better view.

Hundreds of thousands of people have arrived in Washington, D.C., for the March For Life, a yearly event to promote life and urge an end to Roe v Wade. Vice President Mike Pence will make history as the first sitting VP to speak live at the event. President Donald Trump tweeted his support of the march Friday.

This is the best ad Planned Parenthood, the country's premier abortion purveyor, has ever made. "A Grateful Mom" released a few days ago tells the story of Adeline, a woman who went to Planned Parenthood for an abortion. When she arrived to have the baby removed from her womb, she was so distraught, the abortion doctor told her to go home, think about it, and reschedule. But she never rescheduled. Instead, she became a mother and is thankful she chose life. And yes, this is a Planned Parenthood ad.

The Trumps may be considering a goldendoodle named Patton as the official White House pet, but the Pences have no such dilemma. Vice President Pence and family brought their furry entourage to the Imperial City earlier this month. The Pences have two cats, Oreo and Pickle, and a bunny named Marlon Bundo.

The immigration battle is heating up in Texas. Just last Friday, "the newly elected sheriff, who campaigned on the issue, announced Friday that her department would reduce its cooperation with federal immigration authorities when they request an inmate be flagged for possible deportation. Her office said it would still continue to hold people charged with very serious crimes, such as capital murder." Monday, calling her directive "dangerous" and "shortsighted", Governor Greg Abbott sent a letter to Travis County Sheriff Sally Hernandez threatening to cut state funding if she persisted in her refusal to enforce federal immigration laws. Travis county is one of the state's few liberal vestiges and home of state capitol, Austin.

Saturday's Women's March left behind some not so stunning images. From signs dumped all over the D.C. metro area (taxpayer dollars are required to clean those up), children forced to carry politically charged placards and even the desecration of the Daughters of the American Revolution Founders Memorial. Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) is a non-profit, non-political organization whose membership consists of women who are descendants of soldiers and participants in the American Revolution.

If history has taught us anything, it's that setting fire to municipal trash cans brings about rapid political change... During the inaugural ceremonies, anti-Trump rioters burned things and smashed car windows.

My anti-Trump rantings, concerns, conjectures, and complaints are well chronicled in the LI annals. Those have not changed. But looking ahead to the next administration, I'm hopeful. I've been critical of Trump from day one. That won't change. He's a politician (now) and they're never to be trusted. But it's refreshing that the tone of the incoming administration is one that loves our country and sees her for the good she is rather than shaming her for her shortcomings. That much is a welcome change. I'm encouraged by his cabinet picks and the experience they bring to the table. Some are Beltway standard fare. Many are not.

Hard to believe it was eight years ago that President Obama made history by becoming the first black president. Today marks the last of his reign. As the country prepares for its next peaceful transition of power, we've chronicled today's highlights.

Around this time last year, notorious drug kingpin, "El Chapo" was taken into custody after months galavanting as a fugitive. Less than 24 hours before Donald Trump will be sworn in as the forty-fifth president, El Chapo is on a plane to New York. From the NYT:
A federal court in Mexico denied an appeal by Mr. Guzmán’s lawyers to block the extradition, clearing the way for his transfer to the American authorities in New York, where he faces numerous charges for his role as the chieftain of the Sinaloa cartel.

If you're a single Trump supporter looking for love, TrumpSingles promises to "make dating great again." I'm not one to knock online dating sites since I met my husband on the interwebs, but candidate-centric dating is just a tad bizarre and probably not a recipe for relationship success.

The nightmare casting has begun. Fresh off her second failed presidential bid, and Hillary's chances at running New York City are being weighed. A Quinnipiac poll released today tested a hypothetical Hillary mayoral race against that of incumbent, Mayor Bill de Blasio. Several other local politicians were thrown into the mix for fun.

In the final days of his presidency, President Obama commuted most of the remaining sentence for intelligence leaker Bradley (Chelsea) Manning. Manning, who has served seven years of a thirty-five-year sentence, will be released by May 17 of this year. White House Press Secretary Joshua Earnest was asked why Manning's sentence was commuted while fellow intel leaker, Edward Snowden's, application for clemency has not yet been accepted:
