Non-Endorsement of Kamala by Teamsters Has Democrats Privately Worried

“Democrats say Harris still has work to do to win over older, white, working-class voters who make up a large portion of the electorate in the Rust Belt and have been hit by high prices”

They’re not talking about this out in the open on liberal cable news networks but behind closed doors, Democrats are sweating over the fact that the Teamsters declined to endorse Kamala Harris.

Even though the union declined to endorse the candidate of either party, Trump has been taking a victory lap over the overwhelming support he is getting from members of the union.

Some Democrats are having 2016 flashbacks.

Politico reports:

Democrats privately worry the Teamsters non-endorsement is a warning sign

Eight years after Donald Trump shattered the Blue Wall, some Democrats worry he could do it again.

Most polls show Kamala Harris tied or leading Trump in the critical battleground states of Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin after a commanding performance at the debate. Party leaders are projecting confidence publicly. But on the ground, jittery elected officials, strategists and allies are quietly pointing to warning signs for the vice president…

Privately, Democrats say Harris still has work to do to win over older, white, working-class voters who make up a large portion of the electorate in the Rust Belt and have been hit by high prices.

“Candidly, Trump has a solid, solid base of working-class people that have bought into his message,” said Jimmy Williams, president of the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades, which has endorsed Harris. “It’s movable and it’s been moving. But it’s not like some tide that’s turned.”

“Hard not to have HRC flashbacks right now, to be honest, that stuff might be wrong beneath the surface,” the official said. “I hope it’s not.”

The left in media is pretty angry about the non-endorsement, too.

This is from the New Republic:

According to O’Brien, about half the union’s members are Republican. That’s probably true. In general, about one-third of union members are Republican, so while Democrats typically win union households, they don’t win them by large margins.

Still, O’Brien’s doing Trump an unreasonably large favor by withholding a Harris endorsement. “The real damage,” Rosenthal told me, “is that Trump—the way he lies about everything—will lie about this.” He’ll pretend to be a friend to labor, when he’s anything but. “That makes our job tougher in states like Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Nevada, which have strong union membership.” Thanks for nothing, Sean.

This is from Slate:

When Sean O’Brien ran to be president of the mighty Teamsters union, he promised to be a strong leader. But in the Teamsters’ messy handling of a presidential endorsement, O’Brien has appeared weak, short-sighted, and feckless. He has failed to provide strong leadership on one of his most important tests: to get his union’s rank-and-file and board to reject anti-union Trump and instead embrace Harris, who has year after year been a champion of America’s unions and workers.

It really doesn’t matter how pro-union Kamala Harris claims to be or is perceived as, the issues are still the same. Voters across the country, including many members of the Teamsters, think that the country is on the wrong track.

The levels of collusion between the media and the Democrat party is utterly shameless!

The media really should be ashamed of just how much they have whited themselves to the Democrat party.

The reality is they probably didn’t need to do this as I suspect the Democrat machine has done enough ground work to fortify this election, and every other election from here on, from here to eternity as insurance against the wrong result.

Kamala is the poster child for what happens when you consider anything other than merit and accomplishment in picking leaders.

You know what would have garnered Conservative respect and support for Harris in her campaign? When she observed that Biden was non compos mentis, she should have moved to invoke the 25th amendment, have Biden removed and herself sworn in as president. She could have appealed to the American people that she wished to succeed Biden by being elected to office in her own right but her responsibilities under her oath of office as VP and now POTUS came first. She would campaign from the White House, and use the bully pulpit to advance her positions.

Instead, she goes on Oprah and makes a damned fool of herself.

She is not a leader and not qualified or deserving of the office.

At the rate Dems are going they will eventually be the party of Marxists, ANTIFA, BLM, welfare, and all productive people will have deserted them. Unions have a big problem, all their eggs are in the Dem basket, Dems are in big trouble. So what happens to unions?

the unions will pull a last min helping hand for her no matter what

they are by nature a socialist outfit

BUT THE WORKERS are pro trump

It’s easy to see why there is no endorsement because it comes down to a choice:

support Trump, who does not support union policies but creates the jobs that sustain unions; or

support Harris who supports unions but destroys the jobs that sustain union membership.

More different union members have said they are backing Trump. I comes down to the economy and the illegal invasion affecting jobs and people’s lives.

Tomorrow, I am giving my step-step-son, a Union steward here in Las Vegas, 3 MAGA hats. They were out when he last visited, so picked them up a week later.

Union members, by and large, are middle/working class. Why should they support the party of billionaires, centamillionaires, MSM, government workers, ANTIFA, illegal aliens (taking their jobs), etc?

“Why should they support the party of billionaires, centamillionaires, MSM, government workers, ANTIFA, illegal aliens (taking their jobs), etc?”

Because they’re union leaders tell them to. That they decide to defy the leadership and vote properly in the first place is a good thing.

Union members in the private sector tend middle working class

Union members in the public sector (teachers, government workers , though not police and firefighters) are overwhelmly woke democrat voters.

My understanding is that polling showed a 60%/40% edge with the Teamsters. If it had been the other way around, the Union no doubt would have endorsed Harris. But this election, with emotions running this high, endorsing Harris would have probably ended the careers of the union officials doing the endorsement.

Nobody who works for a living should support that communist. Her policies will eventually work us all out of a job.

I suspect there’s more to the d/prog worry than just Teamsters. The middle class …the real one comprising the middle 70% of households is hurting. The bottom 15% has generous (overly so IMO) Govt programs Sec 8 housing, income assistance, WIC, TANF, EBT, school lunch, healthcare. The top 15% (roughly 100K income earner) is doing ok, they are largely public employees with solid benefits; healthcare, retirement and are largely immune to economic downturns. Many small business owners in that top category have been culled by Covid and inflation and sold out/closed down and the ones still standing are doing OK not great with less competition.

The middle 70% though is not OK. Folks who ain’t homeowners can’t afford a purchase. Those who do own can’t sell for lack of buyers and their own problems finding a replacement due to higher interest rates and lack of supply for single family residence. Wages haven’t come close to keeping up with inflation; 20% +/- more across the board. If their AC or furnace needs to be replaced or an automobile goes down prices are sky high and they will feel the pinch. Credit cards maxed out, consumer debt levels high.

Bottom line is the Trump economic agenda benefits the vast middle 70% of Citizens. An emphasis on domestic energy production and using tariff/trade to compel reshore of domestic manufacturing creates lots of good paying middle class jobs both directly and indirectly. The private sector Union folks ain’t dumb. They know the d/prog economic/trade/immigration policies will not work out for their families long term.

The New Republic article is off on the number of Republican union members. That data might have been correct 20 years ago, but it is not true today. The United Steelworkers leadership has endorsed Kamala Harris, but had they polled their members, it would have turned out similar to the Teamsters’ poll, if not worse. As a member of the USW, I would guess closer to 70/30 for Trump.
