I’m so old, I remember when liberals compared Antifa to G.I.’s on D-Day

Democrats are running from Antifa, but it’s too late, the election videos already are being cut.

My my, how the political pendulum has swung about the little darlings known as Antifa.

Antifa, as we documented, are the continuation of a long line of Anarchist-Marxist street thugs originally known as Black Bloc, then Occupy, then in the age of the Resistance to Trump, were rebranded as “Anti-Fascist,” hence, Antifa. The stripes changed, but not the violent tactics.

Just as Democrats embraced Occupy, so too they embraced Antifa when Trump rallies were disrupted and Trump supporters beaten. “Punch a Nazi” became a popular slogan, with “Nazi” having an expansive definition to include all Trump supporters. We explored this Democratic love affair with Antifa in Democrats own Antifa, just like they owned Occupy.

Remember when Elizabeth Warren claimed to provide the intellectual foundation for Occupy? We do.

“I created much of the intellectual foundation for what they do,” she says. “I support what they do.”

When Trump blamed both neo-Nazis/Klan types and Antifa for the Charlottesville violence he falsely was accused of drawing an “moral equivalence.” He never said that, he simply stated a fact that both sides were responsible for the violence, and both sides came ready to fight.

The Antifa role in Charlottesville violence was widely glorified among liberals, who posted memes on social media comparing Antifa to the American soldiers who stormed the beaches at Normandy:

The tide began to turn after Boston Antifa riots in opposition to a free speech event, where it was clear to the cameras that Antifa didn’t need actual fascists in order to beat people up:

Antifa threw urine and rocks at police:

The tide turned, however, after Antifa ran wild in Berkeley, Journalist amid Antifa Berkeley Riots: “Police have completely disappeared … People getting beaten up”:

Hundreds of black-clad masked Antifa rioters descended on a park in Berkeley, California, after a “No to Marxism” rally was canceled.

A few people showed up anyway, and were viciously beaten and attacked.

Mainstream media journalists caught in the middle described the Antifa rioters arriving in battle formation armed with shields (which were specifically prohibited under published police rules) and the police appearing to stand down. Journalists who were filming were repeatedly attacked by Antifa.

(The Man in red in the video below was a reporter who tried to shield someone being attacked.)

When seconds counted, the police were nowhere to be found.

The visuals were pretty dramatic, and for the first time were covered by the mainstream media (though not immediately).

So much so that even Nancy Pelosi felt compelled to condemn Antifa:

“Our democracy has no room for inciting violence or endangering the public, no matter the ideology of those who commit such acts. The violent actions of people calling themselves antifa in Berkeley this weekend deserve unequivocal condemnation, and the perpetrators should be arrested and prosecuted.

“In California, as across all of our great nation, we have deep reverence for the Constitutional right to peaceful dissent and free speech. Non-violence is fundamental to that right. Let us use this sad event to reaffirm that we must never fight hate with hate, and to remember the values of peace, openness and justice that represent the best of America.”

Since then, there has been increasing liberal condemnation of Antifa.

A Politico report today, however, should blow the lid off the notion that Antifa violence was just a reaction to Trump or Charlottesville. To the contrary, Homeland Security and FBI documents reveal internal warnings about Antifa violence and domestic terrorism going back to early 2016.

Federal authorities have been warning state and local officials since early 2016 that leftist extremists known as “antifa” had become increasingly confrontational and dangerous, so much so that the Department of Homeland Security formally classified their activities as “domestic terrorist violence,” according to interviews and confidential law enforcement documents obtained by POLITICO….

Previously unreported documents disclose that by April 2016, authorities believed that “anarchist extremists” were the primary instigators of violence at public rallies against a range of targets. They were blamed by authorities for attacks on the police, government and political institutions, along with symbols of “the capitalist system,” racism, social injustice and fascism, according to a confidential 2016 joint intelligence assessment by DHS and the FBI.

What Democrats do from here on out could have electoral implications. They could continue to embrace Antifa the way they embraced Occupy. But the base still is and loves Antifa.

But running from Antifa won’t work. The election videos already are being cut.

“…according to interviews and confidential law enforcement documents obtained by POLITICO…”

Wow, Politico obtained those law enforcement documents awfully fast, considering that Pelosi only changed Democrat policy a few days ago. Why, it’s almost like Politico was sitting on these documents in case it became necessary to discredit Antifa in a hurry!

http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2017/08/charlottesville_false_narrative_crushed_by_dhs_warning.html

Governor Terry McAuliffe’s efforts to evade responsibility for the shocking violence at Charlottesville just got even more implausible. He and local authorities were warned, and yet allowed, if not forced, the two violence-prone parties into such close proximity that violence was a near certainty.
——————
The warning issued to state and city officials was clear that the violence in Charlottesville would come, as President Trump was widely criticized for saying, from “both sides.” As quoted by Politico, the DHS assessment issued three days ahead of the Charlottesville incident read, “Anarchist extremists and white supremacist extremists online are calling on supporters to be prepared for or to instigate violence at the 12 August rally.”
——————
A statement issued by Virginia governor Terry McAuliffe on the day of the Charlottesville violence announced (emphasis added):

We have maintained close contact with the Virginia State Police, the Virginia National Guard, the Virginia Department of Emergency Management, and other state and local officials on the ground in Charlottesville, and I agree that the situation in Charlottesville warrants an emergency declaration by me, in order to aid City and County law enforcement in their efforts to restore public safety and order in the City of Charlottesville and the surrounding area. In the days and weeks leading up to this event, my Administration engaged in extensive planning and preparation to ensure that the rally in Charlottesville could be held in a safe and lawful environment.

Current hard Left, same as the old hard Left.

And the Dems play footsie with them until the fit hits the shan, and then they bail. Current Dems, same as the old Dems.

In 2018, we as voters get a choice of the Stupid Party (Republican) and the Scary Party (Democrats). The options are not great but in the end Stupid will ultimately win.

The MSM knew the Antifa was bad news but I guess they figured that as long as they disrupted and harassed Trump Supporters like Ann Coulter, then what was the big deal if a few windows got broken?
Problem was that the Antifa wasn’t going to stop with bashing “Nazis.”
They want to beat on anyone that gets in their way.
It will be interesting to see what they do now – now that the DNC and media has turned on them.

Crowd: A Nazi! A Nazi! We found a Nazi! We’ve got a Nazi! We have found a Nazi! May we burn her?

– How do you know she is a Nazi?

– She looks like one.

– Bring her forward.

– I’m not a Nazi! I’m not a Nazi!

– But you are dressed as one.

– They dressed me like this.

– No, we didn’t.

– And this isn’t my nose. It’s a false one.

– Well… we did do the nose. And the hat. But she is a Nazi!

– Did you dress her up like this?

– No, no! Yes. A bit.

– She has got a wart.

– What makes you think she’s a Nazi?

– She turned me into a newt!

– A newt?

– I got better.

They didn’t even get it right with their D-Day fighting Nazis post. Our troops DID have a permit to fight Nazis, it was called a Declaration of War.

Ah yes, a faint remnant of that old relic, the US Constitution.

Milhouse in reply to Paul. | September 3, 2017 at 12:12 pm

Declarations of war are no relic. Congress passes them regularly. There is no magic formula that they must follow; their essence is that they authorize the president to use military force.

But it’s worth remembering that no declaration is necessary for a state of war to exist. The USA’s first war was never declared, by either side, but it was nonetheless legally a war. And the Civil War officially started in April 1861, even though Congress didn’t get around to declaring it until July. In the Supreme Court’s words, “A state of actual war may exist without any formal declaration of it by either party, and this is true of both a civil and a foreign war.”

It’s a good thing those soldiers out on the beaches in Normandy didn’t find any banana peels, or they might have run away screaming.

/sarc

“Sarge, we got through the barbed wire, the minefield, and the field of fire in front of the machine gun nest, but… there’s a banana peel out there, Sarge! Can’t we just go home?” said no soldier, ever.

IndependentDem in reply to georgfelis. | September 2, 2017 at 10:09 am

But just imagine what the right person could do with this image in a commercial? Soldiers resting after taking the beach (all of them 18-21 years old – college age), a couple of them even having a smoke, when one of them spots a banana peel in a tree.

The man in the football shoulder pads and flag t-shirt in the WAPO tweet is “Tiny” in this story:
http://www.weeklystandard.com/a-beating-in-berkeley/article/2009498

This article tells the story of the Patriot Prayer organizer, Joey Gibson (and his bodyguard, Tiny) and their run-in with antifa in Berkeley, as told by a journalist who accompanied them. An excellent article.

Denying individual dignity (e.g. color diversity).

Political congruences (e.g. “=”) to discriminate between select groups.

Denying lives deemed unworthy, inconvenient, or profitable (e.g. Planned Parenthood/clinical cannibalism).

Monopoly formation (e.g. single-payer).

Redistributive change because the “Jews” have too much.

Elective wars and forcing CAIR (catastrophic anthropogenic immigration reform).

The neo-National Socialists have a clear and progressive problem, beginning, but not ending with, the establishment of the Pro-Choice “Church”.

Denying lives deemed unworthy, inconvenient, or profitable (e.g. abortion chambers, Planned Parenthood/clinical cannibalism), using a quasi-legal privacy regime, no less.

Antifa is an ally until they are no longer useful. Antifa will just need a new name as their mission will exist as long as freedom exists.

The friend/foe difficulty is a symptom of operating with tactics but no principles except deception, corruption, and the end justifying the means.

Also, hearing Pelosi condemn Antifa makes me sick as I know she is lying while thinking that the benighted people at LI (not the trolls of course) will believe her.

Looks like Mao is turning on the Red Guard. Hitler is turning on the Stormtroopers. Antifa must not be useful to the Democrats anymore. That’s what happens to political street thugs when they become a liability.

Evan3457 in reply to Evil Otto. | September 2, 2017 at 10:25 am

Well, they’re about due for a name change, anyway. They were occupy Wall Street until the 2012 election, Black Lives Matter until the 2016. Now, they’re Antifa. I wonder what the next doublespeak name will be? (Just out of curiousity.)

The name changes, but the song remains the same. Just like ACORN, whatever it’s called now. The solution, if there is one: follow the money.

Oh dear, it looks like the History Channel is showing reruns again.

Adolf eliminated his own paramilitary group, the SA (Sturmabteilung, the Brownshirts) when its thuggish behavior become too much of an embarrassment.

Now of course he had other groups—the Schutzstaffel and the Geheime Staatspolizei—to take over the SA’s work.

I wonder who the Dems will use after they dump antifa. Maybe they’ll go back to BLM and SEIU.

Making a radical group part of your tribe is a dangerous thing to do. It is often done by those who are in such a hurry to score political points against opponents that they don’t see what the consequences might be.

Thinking that Americans, from either party, would be in favor of black shirted, masked thugs beating people in American streets and on campuses is stupid.

In this day and age “walking back” support is nearly impossible.

You are forgetting Paul Ryan’s and Mitt Romney’s praise of Antifa. The hatred of Trump is so deep that those clowns were willing to hurt the party and themselves.

notamemberofanyorganizedpolicital | September 2, 2017 at 1:33 pm

Antifa = pronounced “Auntie Toms of the Demcrat Party.”

Antifa, supposedly short for anti-fascist. By way of analogy, if it walk like a duck, quacks like a duck, swims like a duck, and flies like a duck, it’s the f***ing anti-duck and don’t you dare call it a duck or I’ll crack your skull.

By the same token, when fascism arrived in America it arrived under the name antifa. How dare we call it what it so obviously is.
