Republicans in Congress to Probe DNC Ukraine Connection in 2016 Election

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley – Did the DNC break the law?

The DNC is alleged to have worked with Ukrainian officials to influence the outcome of the 2016 election by damaging Trump. This isn’t getting as much attention as the Russia story but let’s face it, nothing does.

Republicans in Congress are taking an interest, however.

Brooke Singman reports at FOX News:

Trump’s not alone: Congress digging into DNC-Ukraine connection

Republicans in Congress have joined the White House in asking questions about the extent to which a Democratic Party consultant may have worked with Ukrainian officials to hurt then-candidate Donald Trump’s presidential bid last year.

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley wrote a letter earlier this week to the Justice Department asking whether the Democratic National Committee broke the law. Grassley, R-Iowa, specifically asked if the DOJ was investigating Alexandra Chalupa, a Ukrainian-American DNC consultant who allegedly had meetings at the Ukrainian Embassy in Washington, D.C., to discuss incriminating information about Trump campaign officials.

President Trump, trying furiously to tamp down the controversy over alleged Russian coordination with his associates, has questioned why the same scrutiny is not being applied to the Democrats’ alleged Ukraine connection.

In a Tuesday tweet, he complained about the lack of an investigation into Ukraine efforts to “sabotage” his campaign.

This short video from FOX goes over the basic facts:

Trump administration lawyer Jay Sekulow addressed this issue in a recent appearance on CNN.

Partial transcript via Real Clear Politics The key exchange comes at the end:

Sekulow: Democrats “Actually Exchanged Documents With Foreign Government” In Ukraine

SEKULOW: Well, the Ukrainians — you know, I go back to the Ukrainian example. I know you don’t want to discuss it because you say it’s not being investigated, which raises the question.

But, here, in the Ukrainian situation, they actually exchanged documents from a foreign government. So…

(CROSSTALK)

TAPPER: Because Paul Manafort did work — because Paul Manafort did work in Ukraine, people in Ukraine wanted the United States to know.

SEKULOW: Yes.

TAPPER: But that was all from a legal and public hearing.

SEKULOW: Well, wait a minute — well, wait.

(CROSSTALK)

TAPPER: I don’t…

SEKULOW: He was running — but, Jake, he was running the campaign at the time.

So, I mean, when we’re acting like this is some kind of one-off thing that never happens in campaigns, and you just stated the evidence of exactly what took place there, right.

(CROSSTALK)

TAPPER: No. Nobody from — nobody from the Ukrainian government met with the Clinton campaign. Again, as I said…

(CROSSTALK)

SEKULOW: That’s not true. There were representatives at the Ukrainian Embassy. The Politico report was clear. Go ahead. TAPPER: Again, I know you want to change the subject.

Here’s the video:

Jake Tapper sure does seem reluctant to discuss the issue, doesn’t he?

Aren’t Ukrainians just Russians with bad haircuts?

So let me see if Ive got this right. We have a Special Counsel investigating non-existent links to Russia (and lets be honest here…we all know there is no Russia Russia Russia) YET where we actually know there was actual collusion going on we have a spineless, toothless congress investigation???

So it begins.

This is the direct result of the short-sighted attacks on Trump by the Dems. The Dems have more dirty laundry than Trump ever had. But, they have become emboldened by the fact that the MSM steadfastly refuses to report negative stories about the Democrat Party and Democrat politicians. And, they, and their minions in the press, seriously underestimated Trump’s response to their attacks.

Trump simply wanted to move his agenda forward as he promised the voters he would. He offered to let Servergate lie. He still hasn’t made a big deal about the illegal surveillance and unmasking actions of the Obama administrations. He did not press the Clinton Foundation investigation. He probably wouldn’t have pressed the leaking investigation, if the leaking had stopped. He warned everyone, especially the media, that he would not tolerate grossly inaccurate reporting or outright fabrications. No one took the hint.

So, now the Dems have to deal with Ukrainian Collusion, active leaker prosecution, Servergate and the Clinton foundation are back on the table, unmasking and other Obama Era surveillance improprieties and illegalities and the Inman IT scandal. None of these will rise to anything like the “outrage” over the non-collusion with Russia by the Trump campaign. But they are still there. And, I suspect, that the lack of action by the DOJ, on these subjects, is one of the things driving Trump’s dissatisfaction with Sessions.

“And, I suspect, that the lack of action by the DOJ, on these subjects, is one of the things driving Trump’s dissatisfaction with Sessions.”

Bullshit. You have no basis for your “suspicion”.

T-rump has been clear about his beef with Sessions. Sessions was “unfair” to Donelle T-wamp, adolescent school girl.

T-wamp him/herself clearly signaled that the DOJ should NOT go after the “wonderful people” who are the Clintons. People who he had supported with his money and his influence.

Do you even read what I post, before you trash me?

Sessions works for Trump. If he does not wish to do what Trump wants and expects him to do, he simply resigns and goes fishing.

It is amazing that Trump is under siege by the media and the Dems making spurious claims about him and his family and friends and none of his cabinet appointees seem either willing or able to protect him from what amounts to slander and libel. First, Sessions recuses himself from overseeing the Russia investigation; a move that Trump criticized when it happened. Then he appoints Rosenstein who immediately makes matters worse. And, I have no doubt that the fact that the DOJ has made no discernible progress in identifying any of the multitude of people illegally leaking information does not sit well with Trump. So far, Sessions has studiously avoided any actions which could be viewed as political in nature, even if substantial evidence of criminal wrongdoing exists. Over the last month Trump has expressed a desire to investigate the claims of wrongdoing by Clinton, the Obama administration and the Dems and nothing is coming out of the DOJ. I suspect that Trump is tired of spinning his wheels on defense and is not so subtly signalling Session to start supporting the President or he could find himself replaced.

        There you go, suspecting again.

Of course I read your bullshit. I usually quote it!

Jeff Sessions is not Donelle T-wamp’s boy friend and protecter.

He’s the FLUCKING Attorney General of the United States. He is not the POUTUS attorney, mouth-piece, or toady.

Same’s true of every other cabinet member. They have a portfolio, and “being fair” to Donelle is not on the agenda, nor is being her white knight and protector.

And, like I said, Donelle made herself VERY clear. She’s all wee-weed up over the fact that Sessions has been “unfair” to her.

        “Whaaaa, whaaa, whaaaa. It’s my Presidency, and I’ll kvetch if I wanna…kvetch if I wanna…kvetch if I wanna…”

Tapper needs to register as a DNC operative.

If I were POTUS, I would have strongly considered Jay Sekulow as my A.G. and Ben Shapiro as my Press Secretary. Both are good at maintaining their composure and handling their opponents. Sekulow would be a far more fierce and intimidating A.G. than Sessions ever will be.

Just to make things weird(er?), I’ve seen suggestions that Brett Kimberlin is somehow tied into this too.

Hmmm. I don’t visit here often, maybe once or twice week, started a couple of months ago. I gotta say I am impressed with the tone and level of knowledge displayed in the comments. One does not find such level of civility and insights of this depth very often.
In no small ways, I believe that is the indirect result of the caliber of the man that runs this show. So, thank you, Professor!

Oh sure, on second thought, you have numbers here too that will not tolerate another’s viewpoint, and are easy with throwing insults at writers with whom they disagree. Mostly ’cause they feel themselves outclassed and puff themselves up by tearing others down. But, luckily, they are few and far between.

Could it be the Republicans has found evidence that at one time they had a vestigial spine?
