Trump Chooses Former NLRB Member Alexander Acosta for Labor

His former nominee Puzder withdrew yesterday.

President Donald Trump has picked former National Labor Relations Board member Alexander Acosta for his Secretary of Labor.

Trump had to choose another nominee after fast food executive Andrew Puzder withdrew on Wednesday following controversies that surrounded him, which included hiring an illegal immigrant for a housekeeper and accusations of spousal abuse.

President George W. Bush appointed Acosta to the NLRB where he served from December 2002 to August 2003. Bush also picked him as assistant attorney general for the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice. This made Acosta “the first Hispanic U.S. assistant attorney general.”

Acosta also worked as a U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Florida, maintaining that post for the longest in its history.

Acosta now works as the “dean of Florida International University’s law school,” a post he has held since 2009.

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) supports the choice:

It wasn’t until a small bit of an article I saw today that I finally understand why Puzder’s nomination fell apart. We had known he had hired an illegal alien, and he said he’d paid the SS taxes and other employment taxes due when he found out the employee was an illegal.

Well, that wasn’t exactly true, apparently. Looks like he didn’t pay the taxes due and make everything right until AFTER he had been nominated by Trump, 5 years after the fact.

No wonder his hearing kept getting postponed – he would have been publicly slaughtered by the dems for that one.

Well if little Rubio likes him, that’s all I need.

“Top notch. Anyone who votes against him is crazy.”

Or a Dimocrat.

Oh, wait…

As I recall – Obama had 4 nominees that dropped out or were rejected in his first term. Is that correct?

A thing of beauty!

What, you ask? President Trump’s press conference after the announcement of Mr. Acosta as his Secretary of Labor.

The drive-by media got taken behind the woodshed by the President.
I almost got a Chris Matthews type thrill up my leg! 😀

Disappointing “have to settle for” pick. NLRB is out of control and we need a real status-quo buster in there, like Pruitt.

Its a shame that the media makes guys like Puzder so miserable that they choose to withdraw. The politics of personal destruction is vicious.

Look forward to the ongoing war with the media. Trump punching back hard in the presser is awesome, at least. I don’t think those who believe in Trump are bothered by the usual media memes in anyway, even if they get scalps in Puzder and Flynn.

I hope the media going full “eleven-ty” so early leads to burnout by summer.

The biggest risk is and always has been GOP support legislatively. If they do what we need, the first two years will be awesome.

What are you talking about? Yes, the NLRB is out of control, which is precisely why someone who’s been there and seen it first hand is a wonderful choice for DoL. Of course the only real answer to the NLRB is legislation to rein it in or abolish it altogether, but in the meantime Acosta is more likely than Puzder to do something about it.

I agree it is vicious, but this guy was his own worst enemy if he’d ever had a thought about being nominated for a high level appointment. The requirement to verify the eligibility for employment of domestic workers, and paying all the appropriate taxes on them, has tripped up nominees of both parties going back years. It was his own doing that was his undoing.

Otherwise, he’d have gotten confirmed, all while providing us with a lot of entertainment by the Democrats, who favor every form of exhibitionism and raunchiness, fell all over themselves trying to moralize over the bikini-clad beauties in Carl Jr.’s advertising.

Sen. Rubio says anyone would be “crazy” voting against Acosta. Well, there are at least 48 members in the senate that fit that description. Add in McCain and Graham and you get…….

The US is full ofpotential high level candidates for various high level posts. It was the responsibility of the Trump administration to vet nominee Puzder, whose eliminating history was easily detected and apparently ignored by the Trump vetters.
