John Kerry: Air Conditioners Just as Bad as ISIS

John Kerry: Air Conditioners Just as Bad as ISIS

You have got to be joking.

This is one of the reasons Trump is getting so much support. Under this Democratic administration, the American people are lied to at every turn, as issues are constantly couched in progressive talking points.

Every threat we face at home and abroad is explained away by climate change, income inequality, gender inequity and a constant reassurance that Islamic terror has nothing to do with Islam.

In the latest instance, our Secretary of State tells us about a threat that rivals ISIS.

The Washington Examiner reports:

Kerry: Refrigerator chemicals are just as bad as ISIS

Air conditioners and refrigerators pose as big a threat to “life on the planet” as the threat of terrorism, Secretary of State John Kerry said Friday.

Kerry was in Vienna negotiating a global climate deal to phase out chemicals used as refrigerants in basic household and commercial appliances such as air conditioning and refrigerators, called hydrofluorocarbons, or HFCs. The chemicals are a potent source of greenhouse gas emissions that many scientists blame for contributing to global warming.

Kerry made the remarks as part of a pep talk for negotiators working through the weekend to amend a 1987 treaty called the Montreal Protocol to deal with the chemicals.

“Yesterday, I met in Washington with 45 nations — defense ministers and foreign ministers — as we were working together on the challenge of [the Islamic State], and terrorism,” he said. “It’s hard for some people to grasp it, but what we — you — are doing here right now is of equal importance because it has the ability to literally save life on the planet itself.”

It must be safe to assume John Kerry has no air conditioning in his home(s) then, right? Surely, he would never prescribe one thing for other people while not embracing it himself.

Glenn Reynolds of Instapundit addressed this hypocrisy in a recent column at USA Today:

Ban AC for DC

Everyone talks about global warming, but nobody does anything about it. At least, the people who talk about saving the planet the most seem to have the biggest carbon footprint. But I have some ideas for fixing that…

We’re constantly told by the administration that “climate change” is a bigger threat than terrorism. And as even President Obama has noted, there’s a great power in setting an example: “We can’t drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times … and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK.”

Likewise, it’s hard to expect Americans to accept changes to their own lifestyles when the very people who are telling them that it’s a crisis aren’t acting like it’s a crisis. So I have a few suggestions to help bring home the importance of reduced carbon footprints at home and abroad:

In fact, we should probably ban air conditioning in the entire District of Columbia, to ensure that members of Congress, etc. won’t congregate in lobbyists’ air-conditioned offices.

The meteorologist Joe Bastardi also weighs in:

Of course, the left’s war on air conditioning isn’t new. Almost a year ago, Joshua Sharf of PJ Media noticed a trend on the subject:

Why Did the Media, All at Once, Proclaim the Evils of Air Conditioning?

In the last two weeks, national news outlets have published no fewer than five articles about the evils of air conditioning.

First, the Washington Post described how Europeans can’t understand our national addiction to A/C. Then the article described how, with so many rising cities in tropical climes such as India and the Amazon adopting American standards of comfort, the whole concept clearly poses a threat to the planet. (For the record, they also don’t seem to understand why we like ice in our drinks.)

The logic here was easily refuted: Europeans live on a continent where almost every major city is north of New York. Put Europeans in Alabama for a couple of weeks in July, and they’ll be begging for both refrigerated air and refrigerated drinks.

But then, the media took a sinister turn. Air conditioning, it seems, is less an American affliction than a masculine infliction upon women. At first it was just the Washington Post; now the New York Times and Sky News are getting into the act.

Watch. Within another week, every big-city newspaper will have a story about this, with intrepid city desk reporters visiting three office buildings and a major downtown department store to check the A/C levels, and with calls to at least one HR department and building management company to find out how they set the thermostats.

Let our intellectual superiors in politics and media lead the way by getting rid of their air conditioners first. Until they do, feel free to ignore them and stay cool.

Yeah, the 2nd term of W. was a keeper. Republicans claim to not be able to remember him.

Apparently, the more dishonest, delusional, and hypocritical one is, the higher one can rise in the ranks of the Democrat Party.

They are coming for your AC!

I said that 4 years ago and I stand by it. Unelected govt officials are coming to take away Air Conditioning from the peons. They will still sit in comfort while the rest of us sweat for the greater good.

Given enough power, the progressives would undoubtedly go there.

Sometimes I look back on history and imagine what it would have been like to be part of the French Revolution. And then I wonder how far will the progs have to push before they meet a similar fate here?

In my mind’s eye I can picture guillotines on the DC Mall, the sound of ker-chunk!! And the crowd roars with approval.

As time passes I’m beginning to understand the French Revolution and the Reign of Terror that followed it a lot better.

Milwaukee in reply to MattMusson. | July 24, 2016 at 2:43 pm

MattMusson: “They are coming for your AC!”

Too late, they have already come and too many have already surrendered. For years power companies have offered discounts for control. The power company puts a little receiver on your AC. Then, during times of peak energy consumption, they can turn off the compressor for up to 15 minutes-per-hour. The fan will still run, circulating the already cooled air. Do this and get a discount on your electrical rates. They either “pinkie-promise” or “cross-my-heart-hope-to-die-stick-a-needle-in-my-eye” promise it will only be 15 minutes per hour.

England has white meters. They charge a little more for peak hour electricity, but give a discount for off peak use. So, buy a washer/dryer and dishwasher with timers. They run during the off peak for huge savings. Have an electric water heater and hot water storage, same thing.

When Europe had a heatwave in the late 90s, thousands died from the heat due to no AC. Every year in the South, ACs are given to poor people to save lives. AC in hospitals cuts down on disease transmission and infections.

I’ll bet you think that if you open up your refrigerator and stand in front of it, you will be kept cool.

Ah, a member of the “party of Science”, bet you think consensus affects reality. Scientific method, modify theory to fit data, not modify data to fit theory.

OnlyRightDissentAllowed in reply to genes. | July 24, 2016 at 2:31 pm

Never claimed that consensus affects reality. If you ever find a quote of mine claiming that, you have a right to put those words in my mouth. I do believe that you put up a straw man argument.

I know that is often a renegade, like Pasteur, who was right and the consensus wrong. But simply not wishing to believe the truth doesn’t make you right. Tobacco companies employed a lot of scientists in an attempt to ‘prove’ smoking didn’t cause cancer.

You will. Local cooling. The rest of the room will heat up.

Folks,
we have to take this seriously. John Kerry is a recognized international expert on hot air.

If MA taxes air conditioners, will Kerry berth his in RI?

He may be confusing Aircraft Carrier with Air Condioner – Carrier. I would have suspected he would offer ISIS portable air conditioners as “global warming” is the cause of Islamic conflict.

If air conditioners are dangerous can we trust our refrigerators? Is my Bluebell at risk? What a jackass!

When they decommission the A/C at the Whitehouse and the State Department, let us know.

Meantime, here’s a thought question: How does Ivanka feel about Gorebal Climate Thingy? Because, nice person I’m sure she is, her speech the other night was pure Deemocrat.

We are talking about stupid people campaigning for and holding public office aren’t we? John Kerry and Donald Trump are both well qualified for that category.

Both Hillary and Trump will use the power of government to favor their constituents over their ‘enemies’. What we should be doing is electing those who will remove the power of politicians to abuse anyone at all.

So, our collective future, as desired by Hilldabeast, just love to use the word “collective” as in the collective term “NeverTrumpers,” includes sweaty, hairy armpits, huge fans mounted in every room (Now, that’s a business opportunity for an aspiring sort of soul!), ice-block carts pushed through the neighborhood (Cartmen shouting “Get your Ice Blocks today!”) (Reminds me of Turkish ragdealers shouting out as they push their rag carts down the sok!), verandas built on the East side of houses and metro worker beehives so one might bask in the fast approaching dusk, hauling room AC units to the recycle yard, plus digging up the backyard to remove the house AC unit, and providing for millions of new gummermint jobs to make sure AC units are both turned off and safely removed; this is a collective / progressive wet dream, plus business opportunities for those souls with the proper credentials to perform said AC removal services; that also means many more HFC AC Removal schools, for teachers for said subjects, and especially for inspectors qualified; perhaps there are many more such employment opportunities than those few just listed. John F’ing Kerry is outlining an approach to employment better than than BO’s favorite shovel ready jobs program?

Of course, a better approach would to tell John F’ing Kerry to go “F’em self,” along with all those other Progressive / Socialist idiots!

Lastly, how is SoS Kerry, and his master BO, going to deal with refrigerators and auto uses of HFCs? After all, many of us have to eat and many of us have to commute (Those now few souls who have to earn a paycheck.) to work.

We’re truly doomed if Hilldabest is elected!

http://www.the-american-interest.com/2016/07/23/americas-biofuel-boondoggle-rife-with-fraud/

The whole Gorebal Climate Thingy/Green-goo deal is a monumental fraud, intended to benefit a few at the expense of the rest of us.

But just remember who it was in Iowa who sucked up to the BIG CORN cronies for a few pitiful caucus votes, and ADVOCATED the extension and expansion of the ethanol boondoggle. And he then lied about it, saying it would “Make America Great”.

(Hint: he looks like a giant Cheeto…)

So, when Hilldabeast is elected, you’ll be anointed as the commissar of lower and upper Texas! Will that be with, or without, Plenary powers; but, over what?

Raw energy, gas and oil, are so cheap companies are going out of business, and yet we turn corn into gas. What about feeding the poor? What about feeding me? I resent $5/pound bacon.

Never mind the poisons poured onto our soils to grow that corn, so we can drive our cars.

The Friendly Grizzly in reply to Milwaukee. | July 25, 2016 at 2:29 pm

Ethanol in motor fuel, like EBT and school meal programs, are farm progrsms, pure and simple. Nothing else. A lot of the direct payments to not grow things went away; these programs are their replacements.

Remember waaaaaay back when AC and refrigerators were targeted because the chloroflourocarbons they then used were supposedly destroying the ozone layer?

The words may change but the story is forever the same. Our way of life is evil and must be destroyed.

Over one million human [wholly innocent] human lives are lost in abortion chambers and Planned Parenthood offices every year in America alone. The pro-choice religious/moral philosophy is a first-order cause of catastrophic anthropogenic childhood mortality and scientific mysticism, too. It’s not for the children.

    OnlyRightDissentAllowed in reply to n.n. | July 24, 2016 at 1:19 pm

Why don’t you work very, very hard to see that accurate information of sexual reproduction is taught and that contraception devices and medications are readily available? The number of abortions could be cut to a small fraction by helping people plan pregnancies.

Do you really care about abortion or is is sex that you do not like? Do you care about free will or do you think your personal religious beliefs should be imposed on the rest of the world?

It is, they are. people like you ignore the first and don’t bother with the second.

“”In theory, there is no difference between practice and theory. In practice, there is.”” Your faith in the theoretical is heartwarming.

Distributing contraceptives and information on human reproduction have been correlated with increases in “unplanned” pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases. I say “unplanned” pregnancies, because the participants are surprised when the planted seed grows. Further, there is reliable research which indicates among some groups of teenage girls, they will use contraceptives for the first month or two and then stop using it, unbeknownst to their partner. They want a baby. The CDC has also found a correlation between beer sales competitions in an area and an increase in gonorrhea.

One thing I notice in n.n’s comments: the topic can be virtually ANYthing, and n.n works abortion into it some way.

According to Obama’s science czar and Malthusian enthusiast John Holdren, people are the problem, too many anthros in anthropological climate change.

Blaming refrigerators is better, though, than what Holdren has pushed. Holdren has recommended forced abortions to save the world.

Milwaukee in reply to jennifer a johnson. | July 24, 2016 at 2:49 pm

“Holdren has recommended forced abortions to save the world.”

Both suicide and abortion are grave sins. This guy, if he wasn’t a hypocrite, could quietly off himself in the name of saving humanity, to give the rest of us a bad example. Since he is a mad liberal, the Church does allow that there might be some leeway for those suffering from mental distress.

Without air-conditioning, Washington D.C. would need to be empty every summer. That is where we save the planet. Send the tax collecting, over regulating busy-bodies home to get some much needed rest.

rabidfox in reply to Milwaukee. | July 25, 2016 at 12:19 am

Maybe we need an Amendment that states that any law passed needs to be applied to all of DC for one year before it can become required for the rest of the country.

I live in SE Georgia. You touch my air conditioner, you die! 😉

Wish I were one of the building engineers at Comcast Center. That evil air conditioning would start malfunctioning about 0800 tomorrow. Really, badly malfunctioning, take at least a week to repair.

And a quote from a blog comment elsewhere:

My air conditioner just yelled Allahu Akbar!
I just put 3 rounds through my Sub Zero….

Wells Fargo Center. First reference I looked at said Comcast center.

The the DNC needs to lead by example: shut down the air conditioners at the Wells Fargo Center in Philly

The Friendly Grizzly | July 24, 2016 at 10:18 pm

First, the Washington Post described how Europeans can’t understand our national addiction to A/C.

They may not “understand” it, but they are taking a liking to it. Granted, my samples are small, but in Spain, mainland Italy. and Sicily, I saw a LOT of dwellings and small offices, many in buildings hundreds of years old, that clearly showed the outside end of “split-system” ACs and heat pumps.

Keep in mind that Europeans often catch up with what we have, right down to washing machines being FAR more common in their homes than they used to be, and many homes now have that brilliant invention, the mixing faucet for kitchen sinks.

I could site many examples but it would become its own article. Europeans are NOT that good about energy conservation. Most homes and small offices and shops have little or no insulation. Many shop windows are still single-pane. Their fluorescent lighting mostly still employs technology that has fixtures there taking 92 watts (and buzzing along with it) where the same size one here is using as little as 48 and providing more light with better color rendition along with it.

Methinks Kerry, and his expensive-dinner-and-champaign buddies in the EU offices should shut their mouths.

The Apocalypse draws nigh. Behold, a Horse-men on a racing bike.
