Chuck Todd: Tough to Train ‘Prejudice and Hate’ Out of Police Hearts

Are Police ‘Prejudice and Hate’ Really the Central Problem, Chuck?

Morning Joe did a very decent job today of covering the shooting of police officers in Dallas and the issue of police shootings of African-American. The remarks were generally even-handed. Even Al Sharpton was cautious and balanced in his comments. And so it was surprising that of all people, Chuck Todd made the most tendentious remark.

Speaking of the shooting of Philando Castile in St. Paul, Minnesota, and discussing the need for better police training, Todd said: “how do you train prejudice and hate out of somebody’s heart? That’s a tough thing.” Is there racism among police? Of course, as there is in every segment of society. Was the Minnesota governor right when he said Castile would be alive if he were white? Quite possibly. But for Todd to focus on police “prejudice and hate” was a gross and unfair overgeneralization. Chuck Todd: please spend a few days in a police cruiser in an inner city. See what the police see and have to deal with every day. Then come back and tell us whether police “prejudice and hate” is the key to the problems facing our society.

In introducing the discussion, Mika Brzezinski had the equanimity to say that “even in the St. Paul story, I don’t look at that cop as a bad guy. I looked at him, what you saw in that video, is a scared guy, a guy who did not know what he was doing.”

MIKA BRZEZINSKI: The conversation is so, has so many different facets to it because, you know, even in the St. Paul story, I don’t look at that cop as a bad guy. I looked at him, what you saw in that video, is a scared guy, a guy who did not know what he was doing.

CHUCK TODD: Then he shouldn’t have been a police officer. He was poorly trained.

CHRIS JANSING: But most officers never fire their weapon in the line of duty.

AL SHARPTON: But that’s why, this is what I’m saying. He was scared.

MIKA: He was scared.

SHARPTON: But Castile is dead —

MIKA: I hear you!

SHARPTON: — and we’ve got to deal with all of that. This guy may be afraid for any number of reasons.

MIKA: Absolutely.

SHARPTON: But this young man lost his life in front of a child and his girlfriend.

MIKA: I’m not discounting that.

SHARPTON: At a traffic stop.

JOE SCARBOROUGH: Mika’s point —

SHARPTON: No, I understand her point.

JOE: And yesterday this comes down to training. This comes down to professionalism. This comes down to having police officers that can de-escalate situations.

MIKA: His life. I mean, he will never.

SHARPTON: Mika is saying it wouldn’t have happened if it had been somebody else.

CHUCK TODD: How do you train prejudice and hate out of somebody’s heart? That’s a tough thing. I mean, it’s the hardest part of this. You have to make sure you’re also recruiting people that are, you know, it’s tough.

It’s amazing how many of these “community activists” when taken through realistic training shoot faster than the cops.

I don’t know about their shooting faster, but that’s a community of folks who can surely enough run faster. What they lack is that heroic sense of direction.

Projection from Mr. Todd.

Common Sense | July 8, 2016 at 12:19 pm

Todd does not have a clue about the job police officers do.
So easy to “arm chair quarterback” from the highly protected set of Morning Joe.

The guy is a paid plant for the Clinton campaign.

In promoting the myth of widespread police killings of blacks, the mainstream media are largely responsible for the Dallas killings.

Apparently tougher to train prejudice and bias out of “journalists”

Heather Mac Dondald (who is the hawtness) just related a stat on Rush’s show I found interesting…

A police officer is 18.5 times more likely to be killed by a black male than vise versa.

(I think I got that right, but anyone is free to correct.)

Given the current views of the left and the politicians in the country, the big urban areas won’t have anyone willing to take a job in a police dept. They will all be one big space to destroy.

You patronizing little SOB. Go on the street for a while. You probably won’t last ten minutes, but if you did, you’d see what cops are really like.

Schmuck.

No doubt. The biggest daily danger talking-head media idiots deal with is if their personal assistants arrive late with their mocha lattes too hot.

And there are few things that disgust me more than when they sit around a table pontificating about the motivations in an LEO’s actions before they have all the facts. AFAIK, there is no one in the public that has a clue about the totality of what happened in these most recent police shootings. If we expect, or even hope, to have fair and just policing, we must grant LEOs the courtesy and right to not prejudge their actions until all the facts are known. These media people scream when accused criminals were judged without due process, but if an LEO is the accused they turn into verbal assassins.

The tribal mentality of police officers is not a racial thing. Nor is the poor record of police officers clearing other police officers for shootings. If bad officers faced justice more often, there would be less resentment.

The ratio of whites killed during arrests is almost as high as the ratio of blacks killed during arrests & a white man is 90x as likely to be killed during an arrest in the United States than in England.

During the spring, I commented here that the successful Illinois riots at the Trump rally (and the media reaction, blaming Trump) presaged a long violent summer.

The violence has started.

“The ratio of whites killed during arrests is almost as high as the ratio of blacks killed during arrests”

Actually, whites are killed by police far more frequently than are blacks. Especially as a percentage of population/arrests. There are actual stats out there you can look up.

Just seeing this reprobate Sharpton makes me ill. You know the only thing he is thinking about is just how much money can he make off of the Dallas tragedy.

Wander over to CTH today.
There are a number of good points about the shooting.
First on the video, all the information we have are three things:
1) A noticably agitated officer. Why? Maybe as people claim he knows he screwed up. Maybe because. well, he shot someone –justified or not.
2) The officer did nto shoot at center mass. Or if he did he missed very badly.
3) The rest is just what the girlfriend/fiancee/wife says on the recording.

Second. No CCW has yet been produced. Some of the minor traffic offenses the guy had were for lack of insurance. Ia anyone going to tell me that a guy who is sloppy abourt insurance is going to be conscientious about a CCW?

Third. There was a BOLO out about a armed robbery a few days ago. The picture of one of the robbers looks like the guy. I’m not saying it was him. but it was close enough for the cop to be wary. Though most people on CTH say it is him.

Fourth. About the same time, people heard on police scanners a cop calling in about a person who matched the robber. No cop is going to pull a guy over and say “I pulled you over because you look like the guy who robbed that store.”f

Cutting edge insight from what could be one of the whitest guys ever. Keep up the great work, Chuckie. And we can all appreciate the gravitas that Al Charlatan brings to any situation.

Yeh, and look how those white, racist, cops disproportionately abuse Asians.

inspectorudy | July 8, 2016 at 2:51 pm

It’s not a racial bias. It is a reaction based on everyday experience by the cops. If you lived in a jungle and every day you went out, the people that gave you the most trouble were blue skinned. It wouldn’t take you long to identify the blue skinned people, among white, black and yellow, as the most likely trouble-makers. Their skin may be blue but that is not the cause of their lawlessness nor is it the reason the cops tense up when they see a blue person approaching. It is from their personal experience with these people that make them tense and overly cautious. Even jesse jackson said that he would do the same thing if confronted by a gang of black youths.

The shooting of the black guy who was stopped for a broken tail light was probably justified. In the video made by his girl friend she says that he told the officer that he had a concealed weapon. That when he reached for his wallet he was shot. Well when an officer stops someone who says they are carrying they are going to make sure the weapon is under control before asking for ID.

Philando Castile was pulled over because he fit the description of an armed robber. The tailight was an excuse.

If the crying boehners hadn’t stabbed us in the back, Sharpton would be in prison for tax fraud, and Obama would have been impeached out of office, along with Eric Holder.

But they did stab us in the back, and now we’re stuck with an army of brownshirts, led by our president, the attorney general and street-scum Al Sharpton, among others.

We have a lot of ground to regain. We won’t do it with GOPe worms Ryan and McConnell.

We all know that Chuck Norris has almost super powers, but it would take him a month of Sundays to kick all the crap out of Chuckie Todd.

Class diversity schemes and civil rights enforcement are a real obstacle to positive progress.

Hey Mark, I know you read the comments in your articles, can you or someone check this out? It needs to be vetted and spread. Thanks

Did you see the reports on Fox news? Just what I said yesterday.

Hanzo in reply to amwick. | July 9, 2016 at 10:51 pm

Not to nitpick, but the taillight excuse was a lie told by the female (forgot her name :)). According to the radio dispatch, Yanez said his reason to pull over was because of the BOLO. This story, like most of the others involving these blacks being killed by the police, is turning more everyday.

Char Char Binks in reply to Hanzo. | July 10, 2016 at 11:49 am

It was a lie, either told by Yanez to avoid tipping off robbery suspects that they were being investigated, or by Diamond/Lavish, or whatever stripper/whore name she goes by, to implicate Yanez.

Hanzo in reply to amwick. | July 9, 2016 at 10:54 pm

Never mind, I stand corrected, as it appears Yanez told them the reason was the taillight, otherwise he probably would have been shot.
