Thousands of Sanders Supporters to Occupy Dem Convention

Thousands of Sanders Supporters to Occupy Dem Convention

Make lots of popcorn.

It makes perfect sense that Bernie Sanders is the favored candidate of the Occupy Wall Street movement. His anti-capitalism rhetoric fits perfectly with the group’s ideology.

It’s therefore hardly a surprise to learn that many of his supporters are planning to use Occupy style tactics to protest Hillary’s nomination at the Democratic National Convention in July.

Peter Hasson reports at the Daily Caller:

Twenty Thousand Committed To Anti-Hillary ‘Occupy DNC’ Protest

More than twenty thousand people have committed to protest Hillary Clinton’s likely nomination at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia — and that number is quickly growing.

The protesters are united in their support for Bernie Sanders, as well as their opposition to “a fraudulent Hillary nomination,” according to the group’s website.
Their leaders have set up a Facebook group — titled Occupy DNC Convention — to organize housing and transportation.

Protesters are encouraged to read documents shared within the group. One document is titled “Civil Disobedience Training.” Another is titled “Health and Safety at Militant Actions” and includes tips on first-aid and withstanding teargas.

One document, titled “Why ‘Occupy DNC Convention’?” explains the protesters’ mission: “we are contesting Hillary’s nomination on the grounds of fraud, voter suppression, and corruption. We show them who we want.”

The group’s leaders have set up a PayPal account and are requesting donations to help fund the demonstrations. The protesters say they simply will not accept a Hillary nomination but at the same time are committed to nonviolence.

You can see the group’s Facebook page here.

CBS News recently did a report on the upcoming occupation. Debbie Wasserman Schultz seemed less than thrilled with the prospect of showcasing such division in the Democratic Party:

It’s quite entertaining to see this creature turn on the party that gave birth to it. At the height of the 2011 occupation of Zuccotti Park in New York City, some Democrats heaped praise on the protesters.

Here’s a reminder from the Weekly Standard:

Pelosi on Occupy Wall Street Protesters: “God bless them”

During a press conference Thursday afternoon, House minority leader Nancy Pelosi praised those participating in the “Occupy Wall Street” protests. “God bless them,” Pelosi said, “for their spontaneity. It’s independent … it’s young, it’s spontaneous, and it’s focused. And it’s going to be effective.”

“The message of the protesters is a message for the establishment everyplace,” said the House Democrats’ leader. “No longer will the recklessness of some on Wall Street cause massive joblessness on Main Street.”

We’ll see if Pelosi and other Democrats feel the same way when they’re on the receiving end.

Exactly the reason why the two parties do not speak for 100% of America. Maybe it’s time for 4 parties on the ballot. Bernie can run as a Commie and Cruz can run as a Constitutionalist. Let Hillary and Trump represent the status quo and then Americans can decide who they really want representing them.
