Trump Obtains Enough Delegates to Clinch Republican Nomination

Reaching the magic 1,237

The Associated Press reports Donald Trump has reached the magic 1,237 required to secure the Republican nomination ahead of the convention.

Unbound delegates pledging their support to Trump put him over the requisite threshold, according to the AP’s calculations.

From the AP:

Donald Trump reached the number of delegates needed to clinch the Republican nomination for president Thursday, completing an unlikely rise that has upended the political landscape and set the stage for a bitter fall campaign.

Trump was put over the top in the Associated Press delegate count by a small number of the party’s unbound delegates who told the AP they would support him at the national convention in July. Among them is Oklahoma GOP chairwoman Pam Pollard.

“I think he has touched a part of our electorate that doesn’t like where our country is,” Pollard said. “I have no problem supporting Mr. Trump.”

It takes 1,237 delegates to win the Republican nomination. Trump has reached 1,238. With 303 delegates at stake in five state primaries on June 7, Trump will easily pad his total, avoiding a contested convention in Cleveland.

Trump envisions the new Republican Party as “the worker’s party“:

“Love the question,” Trump said in response to a question from Bloomberg Businessweek’s Joshua Green in a profile of Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus published Thursday. The article bears the headline, “How to Get Trump Elected When He’s Wrecking Everything You Built.”

“Five, 10 years from now — different party. You’re going to have a worker’s party,” Trump said in the May 17 interview. “A party of people that haven’t had a real wage increase in 18 years, that are angry.”

Trump reiterated that cutting Social Security would be a “big mistake” for the GOP, remarking that “[c]utting it the wrong way is a big mistake, and even cutting it [at all].”

The presumptive nominee’s views would not appear to have come about through intense retrospection. “My views are what everybody else’s views are. When I give speeches, sometimes I’ll sign autographs and I’ll get to talk to people and learn a lot about the party,” he said, admitting that he had not closely followed past Republican efforts to reform the immigration system.

The RNC has encouraged Republicans to unite around Trump prior to the general presidential election.

Worker’s party, eh comrade?

It’s been so successful in other places like Brazil. Why not here too. It’s center-left there, sounds about right.

“worker’s party.” You keep using that [phrase]. I do not think it means what you think it means.”

In all seriousness, I actually kind of get what Trump is getting at with this one. He’s trying (and failing) to talk about actual innovation, production and creation of and by the workforce, which has stagnated horribly under the last several presidencies due largely to poorly conceived trade policies.

I am a big “free-trade” guy, but our domestic policies need to be congruent with those policies. Having a 35% Corporate Tax Rate definitely IS NOT congruent with free-trade policy.

You want to fix international trade? Drop the Corporate Tax Rate to ZERO, and you’ll see a stampede of companies breaking down the door to get into the United States and move their Corporate Headquarters here (and with that comes executive jobs, mid-level management, support staff, food vendors, office building cleaners and a whole host of incidental employment).

In part right. For twenty years “businessmen” — people who envision running as a business as being: “prop your feet up on the table and find the cheapest people who will actually do the work” have abused free trade to play a “human arbitrage” game.

One example is grape harvesting. In other countries they use grape harvesting machines. Here we use exploited illegal immigrants becuase they are cheaper then paying people to build and maintain harvesting machines. Of course since they are illegal they don’t have to pay all sorts of taxes. At the same time the illegals go outside of Mexico reducing stress on the Mexican economy, allowing a corrupt government to stay in power.

The human arbitrage game has decimated the middle class and it’s made Trump look like an attractive alternate.

Well, typical bullshit from a T-rump sucker (not a T-rump supporter).

First, denigrate business-people. Sounds like Occupy.

Second, be so stupid you don’t realize you are talking about T-rump, who has BOTH used ILLEGALS and cheap imported labor…AND lied about WHY.

And third, how grapes are harvested depends greatly on what they’re for.

But “human arbitrage” sounded like you might not be a complete flucking ignoramus…

So, I suppose that the guy working 16 hours a day building a house is a socialist? How about the guy running his dry cleaning company? Another Communist? How about the poor guy who is working two or three jobs to make ends meet? A follower of Lenin? Hardly. These people are all WORKERS. What they want is to be allowed to work for themselves, NOT for a welfare queen living off the public dole. These are the people voting for Trump. The people living off welfare and other public assistance programs are campaigning and voting for Clinton and Sanders.

The GOP forgot that the voting base, which allows them to prevail in elections, has always been the small business owner, the farmer, the rancher, the private sector worker. The people who work for a living and only want to keep most of what they make for their own use, not that of the government. The welfare class pays no taxes. The very rich and large corporations pay little or no taxes, in relation to their income. It is the middle class worker, including small businesses, which pays the majority of the taxes in this country. And, these workers simply many to get a fair shake and to have the government stop taking their money to give to those who do not work.

“The very rich and large corporations pay little or no taxes, in relation to their income.”

That’s a myth, in very large part, but it describes (according to T-rump) Mr. Establishment’s tax paying history.

The truth is that 80% of federal income taxes are paid by people who earn over $100K per year.

But MORE than that, we could not pay enough taxes to fund what Mr. Establishment has proposed; full funding for all entitlements.

This makes him an ignorant, dangerous liar. Even Barracula has given this crisis lip-service. There is NO conflict around this yawning catastrophe.

No doubt rush, Hannity, drudge, and the rest of the fraud news channel stooges are doing a happy dance over the grave of this once great country.

I just heard about The Constitution Party this morning. Some guy named Darrell Castle is their Presidential candidate. While I’ve never heard of him either, their party platform is spot on with the likes of Ted Cruz and Tea Party types. It’s nice to know I don’t have to settle for the Dems, the Trumpublicans, or the baby-killing, atheist Libertarians in November to find someone who represents my beliefs.

The media and establishment republicans are in complete and total melt-down right now. The #nevertrump movement has been banished.

TRUMP 2016

What’s interesting about your post is that you BOTH…

    1. are factually WRONG, and…

    2. you haven’t the common sense to see that you self-contradict.

That’s right. The establishment banished NeverTrump. We will not vote for Trump, though. You’ll have to find the votes elsewhere.

kenoshamarge in reply to Common Sense. | May 26, 2016 at 1:58 pm

The #NeverTrump#NeverHillary people are right where they were yesterday. Banished? Says who? Media types that got you Trump and will now proceed to put him through the shredder. Morning Schmoe, who was kissing Trump’s shoes for 6 months started this morning.

Meanwhile I am voting for neither of these substandard excuses for a human being.

Vox nihili.

Another nothingburger.

The press wants a silly label. So Trump will do what he usually does—give them a pat on the head and something shiny to play with. It means nothing—except maybe to the press, until they get distracted by some new imaginary crisis; which should happen in a few days at most.

    My favorite T-rump sucker rationalization…

“Sure, he’s a big fat, stinking liar, BUT…

he lies so smart, and to everybody ELSE. Wuh? Me…??? Naw, he’s not lying to ME!!!”

#NeverTrump rally to protest Trump in San Diego. Be sure to bring your Mexican flag!

Free State Paul in reply to DaMav. | May 26, 2016 at 5:16 pm

The #NeverTrump movement conservatives and the Soros-backed immigrant rights movement are really two sides of the same traitorous coin. One is the brains, the other the muscle.

Ragspierre in reply to Free State Paul. | May 26, 2016 at 5:18 pm

That’s a lie, you are both an idiot and a liar.

kenoshamarge in reply to Free State Paul. | May 27, 2016 at 10:03 am

Liar! You Trump clones never stop lying – just like your great orange God.

I am proudly #NeverTrump#NeverHillary and because you are clones you simply cannot understand or stand the idea that some people refuse to knuckle under. There used to be a lot of people that did that. Their numbers shrink and more and more people sit in front of their television sets and ingest lies. P

Some people put their country before either party. We refuse to continue to vote for the lesser of two evils. Seems to me all that voting lesser got us the government we have today.

So smear and tear down because that is what you do. Don’t pretend to care about this country, it’s all about voting for the letter “R”.

Ragspierre in reply to DaMav. | May 26, 2016 at 5:16 pm

Is it true you have your head so far up Der Donald’s ass you can count the few living hair follicles on his lying head?

No surprise that the brain dead commenters here are sore losers. Their boy Cruz ran such a bad campaign they are still in shock (that NY Values tactic was one of the dumbest I have ever heard). Love coming here to LI to laugh at their idiocy.

Ragspierre in reply to PhillyGuy. | May 26, 2016 at 5:40 pm

You’re kidding yourself, Fillygui. You come here to join in the circle-jeck/tongue bath of a nest of T-rumpian cultists who think it’s smart to show your asses and chant your lies again.

    It isn’t, BTW.

Your comment was a friendly reminder to #NeverrTrump.

You two have been wrong pretty much the entire way. It’s fun to rub your noses in it. Your superior intellect is neither. It’s like jumping into the Land Of The Lost. And yet you keep saying the same things. I guess if you repeat it long enough you convince yourselves.

Ragspierre in reply to PhillyGuy. | May 26, 2016 at 8:11 pm

You mean like T-rump is a lying sack of shit who attacked people he knew nothing about, on issues he was simply stupid about…??? After supporting the opposition in very recent memory?

“My views are what everybody else’s views are. When I give speeches, sometimes I’ll sign autographs and I’ll get to talk to people and learn a lot about the party,” he said, admitting that he had not closely followed past Republican efforts to reform the immigration system.

“When I made my [announcement] speech at Trump Tower, the June 16 speech,” Trump said, “I didn’t know about the Gang of Eight. … I just knew instinctively that our borders are a mess.”

You come to be entertained and to act like a 12 year old crying nyah, nyah, nyah. Not at all surprised you are a Trump supporter. That’s the mindless mindset.

JimMtnViewCaUSA | May 26, 2016 at 8:13 pm

Trump has run an innovative campaign, and succeeded despite long odds against.
Nonetheless, in my mind the single biggest factor is repudiation of GOPe. This is a stinging rebuke.

He won because of the support of the DC/NY establishment.

kenoshamarge in reply to JimMtnViewCaUSA. | May 27, 2016 at 10:13 am

He won because media, and FOX in particular gave him a billion dollars worth of free advertising. He won because millions of angry people acted like toddlers throwing a tantrum and didn’t care what he said on issues. He won because of a cult of personality.

He said he could shot someone on 5th Avenue and his people wouldn’t care. And you people cheered. Didn’t even have the intelligence to realize what an insult that was.

I worry for my country with the sad/bad choice people will have to make. I’m an Independent and I’ll vote either the Constitution Party or the Liberty Party. The lesser of two evils is still evil.

You, and those like you, I pity.

Petty and vindictive, just like your Cheeto daddy. And every single “like” on your comment is a friendly reminder to #NeverTrump.
And, by the way, what is it that I was wrong about, Trump’s totalitarian tendencies or that liberty is always one generation away from extinction. Because, you know, Trump’s nomination does not make me or my politics wrong.
