Scripps College goes Emory over Trump Hashtag Left on Whiteboard

“This racist act is completely unacceptable”

Trump Derangement Syndrome hits another American college campus.

Last week, Aleister blogged about the hubbub at Emory University where students took chalk markings reading “Trump” as a hate message:

The latest example of Trump induced psychosis is unfolding at Emory University where students were horrified this week to find someone took a piece of chalk and wrote pro-Trump messages on campus sidewalks. The horror!

Rather than simply ignoring this like any normal person would do, certain activists within the student body are demanding that the university president denounce this message of hate.

http://www.barstoolsports.com/barstoolu/emory-university-erupts-in-protests-after-someone-writes-trump-2016-in-sidewalk-chalk/

A few days after the Emory incident, this terrifying message was left on a Scripps College student’s white board:

scripps college donald trump emory college chalking protest freedom of expression free speech

The victim expressed concern over the “racist” message. The College Fix has her facebook post:

TrumpWhiteboard1

In response, Scripps College Student Body President, Minjoo Kim, sent a campus-wide email condemning the “racist” act as one of “intentional violence.” Kim provided the information for students seeking mental health support after Whiteboard Gate.

But is this whole ordeal a hoax?

The College Fix posed the question to Kim who did not respond. “The lettering on the whiteboard and the poster has distinct similarities. Minjoo did not respond to a question of whether it was possible the incident could be a hoax,” they reported.

The San Diego Union-Tribune recently published an editorial advising Trump to handle the hecklers the way he actually has been handling them. I pointed this out to the editors, who then failed to make a retraction or public comment.

So as far as this rosebud knows, Trump has been encouraging violence at his rallies.

I’ve posted this before, so feel free to ignore the link, if it is familiar to you:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=owSn8IYQUks

The speech is presented in full, simply for completeness. The interesting part is at the beginning, when the protesters try to disrupt the rally, starting at about 3 minutes. Trump’s response is masterful, and may I add, far gentler than Ronald Reagan’s, both verbally and physically.

This speech was given several days before the U=T editorial was published.

Talking heads, making it up as they go along, newspapers writing opinions out of their *sses instead of verifying their facts. No wonder these children think any hoax that gets their point across, will do.

You know very well that that’s not true. On this occasion he didn’t encourage violence, but he has done so repeatedly and deliberately.

“You know very well that that’s not true. On this occasion he didn’t encourage violence, but he has done so repeatedly and deliberately.”

Sorry, but you are going to need to back that up. Considering all the lies that are being pushed about Trump’s “racism”, we should no longer give his critics the benefit of doubt.

And it needs to be clear examples, none of this “Border Wall” is a racist dog whistle crap.

Milhouse in reply to Fen. | March 30, 2016 at 2:45 am

Come on, whom do you think you’re fooling?
“See, in the good old days this didn’t use to happen, because they used to treat them very rough. We’ve become very weak.”

“Knock the crap out of them, would you? Seriously. Okay? Just knock the hell, I promise you, I will pay for the legal fees.”

“I’d like to punch him in the face, I’ll tell ya,”

“Get him out. Try not to hurt him. If you do I’ll defend you in court.”

“Maybe he deserved to get roughed up.”

[About two of his supporters beating a homeless man with a metal pole] “People who are following me are very passionate. They love this country and they want this country to be great again.”

At least it wasn’t written with poop.

“Mental and emotional health of our students are our top concern.”

Well, at least that program seems to be going well.

siguiriya in reply to tom swift. | March 28, 2016 at 1:52 pm

It is an interesting worldview that sees writing “Trump” on a whiteboard as an act of “intentional violence,” whereas having an abortion isn’t seen as an act of intentional violence. If the mental and emotional health of students is a top concern, perhaps their moral health should also be a concern.

Probably one of those “La Raza-ists”

One of these days reality is going to hit these fragile little flowers very, very hard. They’d get a better education simply watching Looney Tunes everyday. With special emphasis on Foghorn Leghorn.

Grow up! If you’re expecting the world to care about your precious little feelings, you’ll certainly find it is much easier to have a camel walk through the eye of a needle!

conservative tarheel | March 28, 2016 at 12:43 pm

wwaaaaaa … another special snow flake …
what happens when you go into the real world and
get.a.job! and things do not go as you planned.

They’ll get a gov job Tarheel, and become worse as little authoritarian mini hitlers. You know they’ll get bonus hiring points for whatever reason they need to gain an advantage to be hired. I just don’t see these snowflakes looking for any job that actually helps lift up other people by producing a good product.
I think in order to give the students real world experience they need to run a few “Living under Shari Law” weeks for “diversity” purposes.

Everyone here is missing the long game.

Yes, the social justice wankers are acting like fools, idiots and morons as far as you and I are concerned. And yes, college presidents should grow a spine and tell the wankers to grow up or go home.

But we and they aren’t the target of this exercise.

The students on either side of the dorm hallway are.

This is being done to intimidate their fellow students. It’s stage management, it’s ensuring that few, if any, students on campus come out for Trump openly. The SJWs don’t want to see students wearing Trump buttons, or making casual statements about supporting Trump, or going to a Trump rally, and so on. This is being done to bring down a cone of silence on the campus.

With that accomplished, the SJWs will then be able to sell the media (who fervently want to buy, of course) the message that the universities “stand against Trump”: after all, you don’t see any support for the guy on campus, now do you?

It’s the usual Democratic machine politics to demonize the opponent. Rest assured that if Cruz were ahead they’d be finding a way to do this to him. It’s how they roll.

For extra credit: if you dig into the student “Minjoo Kim”, I bet you find a Hillary or Sanders campaign volunteer.

After a close look at this, I am inclined to think that the writing is not by the same person.

While the R and 2 are similar, they are not identical. They are both slanted further back in the paper than the white board. Further, the M, P, and U are quite dissimilar from the white board to the paper. The M starts on a down stroke on the paper, and on an upstroke on the whiteboard. The P on the paper has tails where the P on the whiteboard does not. The U on the paper is significantly more rounded than the whiteboard.

Now,that does NOT mean that someone else didn’t write the whiteboard at the owner’s request as a hoax, OR that someone wasn’t simply trolling (which itself ISN’T a “hate crime”).

I like the Scripps “Campus Safety has been notified and we hope to find the person responsible so they can be held accountable for their actions.” I wonder WHAT exactly they plan to hold them accountable for? Probably making the person feel “unsafe.” BUT, if Scripps gets so much as one penny of federal aid, I think that any student accused would have a VERY good ground to claim that the University is a quasi-governmental body, that writing on a white-board is a publicly invited activity that the writing party had no notice was unwelcome having not been explicitly told he was not to write upon it, and that any punishment is a violation of the party’s first amendment principles BY such quasi-governmental body.

FWIW, a person doesn’t write letters identically each time. Speaking for myself, when I write on a whiteboard my style changes somewhat, since the hand position is different for writing vertically as opposed to writing on paper which is presumably on a horizontal surface. Certainly the styles are similar, but they are not “identical.”

AlecRawls in reply to Chuck Skinner. | March 28, 2016 at 7:53 pm

Wrong about the m. Look closely: the m on the whiteboard DOES begin on a downstroke, same as in the “victim’s” note. Didn’t look at your other claims.

P.S. Sorry about the thumbs-down. Was trying to hit reply. Do they have to be so close together?

Enh. I’m a big boy. I can take it.

After taking a second look at the M, I can see what you mean about the down-stroke bit. At first I thought it was just a hesitation mark, but after I zoomed it up to 400% on a 40″ monitor, I can see where it’s just slightly off-set.

      Good catch.

Absolutely no one saw this coming. The class diversity crowd is projecting their prejudice.

NC State, Raleigh NC, has a ‘free expression tunnel’ within its campus walkways – as long as your expression does not diverge from Accepted SJW Opinion, of course.

From FIRE (Foundation for Individual Rights in Education):

North Carolina State University persuades students to enroll by advertising their “Free Expression Tunnel,” which “gives students a venue for expressing their thoughts and feelings about anything.”

Well, not anything. According to a recent report, NC State officials regularly monitor the tunnel for things like “hate speech” and then paint over whatever they do not want others to see.

(end quote)

Guess who gets to determine what constitutes ‘hate speech’, there to be censored?

At (the old NCSU, circa 1970’s), the joke was that in transferring from State to UNC one traded in their study lamp for a Beauty Rest mattress. I have noted the “inclusiveness” in literature coming out of there over the years…. and I know which tunnel they are talking about….. so sad.

We might be missing the point here. Perhaps it is not the “Trump” part of the message that is causing anxiety but it is the 2016. 2016 is a pretty big number and it just might be intimidating to those students who are not strong on math and those who didn’t do well on the math portion of the SAT.

Perhaps they have a friend who is handy with large numbers and that friend pointed out that 2016 is close to what their monthly payments are going to be to pay off the student debt they have run up getting that degree in Latin American Lesbian Literature.

Just another brain dead zombie tool of the progressive college complex.

Interesting comments that the writing on the erase board looks like her writing.

Can you spell: HOAX possibility? 🙂

Henry Hawkins | March 28, 2016 at 3:06 pm

C’mon, you conservative cynics. To my knowledge, there hasn’t been one single incident of student activists faking racist or criminal events to provide themselves victimhood in pursuance of any socio-poitical agenda. Not ONE.*

Henry Hawkins in reply to Henry Hawkins. | March 28, 2016 at 3:07 pm

*There’ve been dozens, so many that it is reasonable to assume hoax until proven otherwise. Sort of like UFO sightings.

Sweet Jesus, have we finally found the secret to driving progs insane? We should just arrange for “Chalk Teams” of 2-3 people on each university to fan out and write “Trump 2016” everywhere on campus. The prog SOB’s will be so terrified that they’ll all retreat to their safe spaces and not come out until after Election Day. By then, Trump (or Cruz) will have won handily. 😉

Appears to be an obvious case of #WhiteboardPrivilege

What is a whiteboard for, if not for people to write on it. Putting a whiteboard outside your door is an invitation for people to write on it.

Henry Hawkins in reply to Milhouse. | March 28, 2016 at 9:36 pm

In the Candyland called American universities, it is only an invitation for people to write SJW approved messages. Just like at NC State’s Free Expression Tunnel where students are invited to apply any graffiti they choose – as long as the uber-liberal school administrators approve of it.

Letter sent to Emory president by alumni:

How Emory has changed. Once a world-renowned university that attracted scholars from across the globe, a university that encouraged diverse intellectual pursuits, Emory has apparently become a day-care where children must be shielded from “bad thoughts” lest their feelings be harmed. And the administration has officially endorsed this shift.

We are writing not to highlight the absurdity of those who believe they are physically harmed by encountering political speech with which they disagree, as this is, or should be, clear to any observer. Instead, we are writing to express our disappointment with the recent actions of the Emory administration. For the first time, we are embarrassed to call ourselves Emory graduates.

As the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Washington Post and other media outlets recently reported, a small contingent of vocal Emory students claimed to have been harmed on campus and stormed the office of the president of the university in protest. The locus of this alleged harm? Chalked political slogans featuring the name of a leading presidential candidate. What should have become an opportune teaching moment to instruct students in the value of free speech and healthy debate, once radical ideas that serve as the foundation of American society, morphed into something else entirely. President Wagner, and by virtue of his position, Emory itself, officially endorsed the opposite: the rights of all to freely express their political views must give way in the event some believe their feelings are harmed by such speech. Indeed, as President Wagner stated in a recent campus-wide e-mail in response to the student-led protest, it is now Emory’s policy to recognize the “calls to provide a safe environment”. Freely expressing a constitutionally protected right, in Wagner’s view, creates an unsafe environment. Let the implications sink in.

No longer does Emory University serve as a beacon of intellectual diversity attracting some of the best and brightest young adults from across the world, much as it attracted us. Instead, Emory has become just another school in the well-documented pattern of universities that have surrendered to the demands of a vocal few that emotional comfort, ideological conformity and yes, “safe environments” trump fundamental notions of free speech. Critical thinking and exposure to other opinions are unwanted. But this does not have to be how the story ends. It is vitally important that we respond to this trend by reaffirming our foundational notions of freedom. Unfortunately, President Wagner and Emory University have thus far failed to rise to the challenge.

We call for President Wagner and the full administrative body of Emory University to publicly acknowledge the intrinsic value of free speech and the right of all to engage in spirited political debate. By letting a small cadre of overly sensitive students effect a heckler’s veto on a universal right, President Wagner and Emory University have contributed to the erosion of fundamental freedom in this country. It is incumbent on all to fight to protect free speech, especially speech that might be unpopular or viewed by some as “dangerous.” And fight we will.

Trump has a lot of unsavory characteristics, but I don’t get the “racism”, unless it is because he wants immigration laws enforced. I have never seen these type of unreasonable attacks on any other candidate. It makes you want to vote for Trump.

Henry Hawkins in reply to InEssence. | March 29, 2016 at 1:19 am

You have to check the source of such accusations of racism. It all comes from the left, who call every GOP candidate a racist to some degree or another. They call Cruz a racist. They call Rubio a racist. Anyone who doesn’t follow the leftist agenda is a racist. Oh, and they’re all sexists, too, women-haters. And they all hate the poor as well. They all barbecue poor babies on the weekends, especially minority babies. They are all Islamaphobes as well.

This is no reason to support one GOP candidate over another.

forksdad in reply to Henry Hawkins. | March 29, 2016 at 10:57 am

True. Leftists cannot unite for anything except taking from the productive classes. So they have to have a boogieman to unite against.

If they hadn’t already used the term ‘White Hispanic’ on a guy with African heritage, they would be using that to denigrate Cruz and Rubio. Which is stupid because what is pejorative about being white or hispanic? My grandmother was both with ancestors in this country reaching back before the Declaration of Independence, yet she and others like her who are and were productive Americans matter less than the illegals who showed up yesterday.

White board? Under the SJW standard, isn’t that appropriate of white culture or racism directed at whites? The white students should feel triggered and, from the sanctity of their Safe Spaces, demand the racist sign be banned and the student responsible suspended.

They won’t get it until you start using their own tactics against them.

I was horrified at hearing of this. Violent extremism like this cannot be tolerated.

What kind of hateful racist has a WHITEboard?

I need to go to a safe space.
