Willie Horton Part 2: Brutal Trump ad hitting Jeb on illegal immigration

Willie Horton Part 2: Brutal Trump ad hitting Jeb on illegal immigration

“Act of Love”

https://instagram.com/p/7DdvbEmhWG/

Donald Trump has surged to the top of the Republican field based not only on outsider status, but immigration.

Specifically, frustration and anger regarding illegal alien criminals. Early in his surge I wrote:

But something happened on the way to the denunciations and purges [of Trump]. Kate Steinle was murdered in San Francisco, a sanctuary city. Steinle was killed in broad daylight on a popular pedestrian pier in a business and tourist district, by an illegal immigrant with a long criminal record who had been deported five times and recently was released from custody….

In the wake of the murder of Kate Steinle, many Republican candidates have denounced the sanctuary-cities agenda. There is talk of withholding funding from cities that refuse to cooperate with federal immigration authorities. But who among the Republican candidates has stood side by side with the families who have lost loved ones to illegal-immigrant criminals?

Trump did….”

Now Trump is thumping his favorite target, Jeb Bush, with the issue in a brutal new Instagram Ad:

This hits Jeb where it hurts.

Just like the Willie Horton ad against Michael Dukakis.

And the thing is, it can be used against Democrats just as easily, using the words of sanctuary cities supporters.

Trump is demonstrating not just showmanship, but digital political savvy.

One has to wonder iof Jeb the darling of the GOPe has suffered his “Rocky the Flying Squirrel” moment.

DINORightMarie | August 31, 2015 at 1:16 pm

Trump is taking it to the next level with these 15 sec. Instagram spots. KILLING it (no pun intended, really 😉 )!

The only thing missing from that spot:

Those people are all illegal immigrants…..it should say that: maybe after their name, noted underneath their crime, or somewhere else on the image.

That is what is NOT “love” but a travesty.

I live in Florida and JEB! is not popular with rank and file Republicans. This ad which is devastating to say the least, will further erode whatever support JEB! has and also solidify the mistrust many Republicans here in Florida have for him.

Thought you might like to see a comment elsewhere on this Trump ad on Jeb…

If nothing else, stopping Jeb from ever reaching the throne, this nation owes Trump a world of gratitude.

As the very proud son of a legal immigrant, I have yet to be persuaded that people who violate our laws and customs as their first and continuing act arriving here are desirable additions to our country.

Observer in reply to Tregonsee. | August 31, 2015 at 3:18 pm

Yes, and I really wish some reporter would ask Jeb about the illegal alien crime issue. How does he square his “act of love” rationalization with the fact that since 2009, 40% of the people who have been convicted of murder in his state of Florida are illegal aliens?

The libs are going to go absolutely ballistic

I consider that a fringe benefit of having Trump in the race. Like a free big screen TV with every purchase … Whee!

Trump is demonstrating not just showmanship, but digital political savvy.

Indeed. Although it has been blatantly obvious for several months now, some people continue to profess surprise. Trump is the only contender in the field who is actually showing some political skill.

The astonishing thing about American politics is perhaps the fact that the pros are just so bad at it. Pitiful, really, in a country which has been dominated by the same two professional suckup parties for the past century and a half; one would think that they’d have figured it all out by now. Though perhaps we should consider ourselves fortunate that they haven’t.

mariner in reply to tom swift. | August 31, 2015 at 3:12 pm

I disagree with both your points:

    1. The professionals are GREAT at their jobs. They’ve managed to foist their candidates on us for at least two decades.

    2. Those professionals DO have it figured out. What they’ve figured out is how to screw the American people and keep their places at the public trough.

So true, yet how beautifully that describes how “They” are totally screwing US.

And, that provides the basis in fact for Trump’s success to date, Carson’s and Carly’s too.

Ragspierre in reply to mariner. | August 31, 2015 at 6:15 pm

      OH! Puleeeeze…!!!

Remember, T-rump has pros working for him.

That Stone guy that quit was one.

Then, Mr. Establishment lied about “firing” him.

Another failed coronation.

Hmmm.

I detect some comment editing in this thread—memory-holing of an entire post. (Not my post … unless this one goes down the hole too.)

It’s all so very New York Times … and that ain’t good.

The Professor wrote in the comments recently that the ad hominems were getting out of hand, and he was going to start deleting/banning offender posters/posts.

Trump is showing how to deal with the likes of Obama, Hillary, GOP surrogate FOX News, and the establishment GOP which has no backbone what so ever unless dealing with conservatives like Cruz and we so-called “trash voters.”

Whether or not he becomes president is irrelevant to this demonstration of breaking their PC toys and mowing down their tactics.

This is the approach Sarah Palin proposed to McCain in 2008 who lauded Obama as a “nice man.” Now, we all know what some of us knew in 2008: Obama is a ruthless socialist lying bastard who did what it took to neuter the GOP and it worked.

Politics is war and as the GOP used ‘The Marquess of Queensberry Rules’ of engagement, Obama & the Democrats used ‘The Alinsky Rules’ of engagement and they slaughtered the GOP… Twice.

Either we cowboy up or give up.

I am not giving up, which means continuing to play hardball, not patty fingers, with the Dems, the GOP establishment, or anyone else who wants a GOP establishment wimp for a nominee.

I support all of the outsiders and looking to see how much of Trump rubs off on each of them as a measure of their dedication to doing what has to be done to put this country back on it’s feet again.

I sent this email in identical form to numerous people:

The level of interpersonal hostility in the comment section is out of control. I don’t even like reading the comment section sometimes, and readers are complaining as well.

So I’m asking people to tone it down and to express viewpoints without name calling. Whatever has happened has happened, and I’m not interested in determining who started it.

From this point forward, comments will be deleted, with blocking accounts a last option.

Thanks.

I am very happy to hear you are taking steps, Professor. An out of control comment section will destroy a blog. It is one of the primary reasons I moved from blogging to twitter, but not the only reason. I also wanted more reach.

Now that you have stepped into the breach, I can relax knowing I am not going to have to deal with it in a fight fire with fire response.

    Epidemic?

I believe Lucianne (lucianne.com) posted a warning about arresting uncivil discourse on her site, just last week, and Ace, also read/wrote the riot act recently:

” . . . The proper response to an argument or statement you don’t like is a counter-argument or correction — not a personalized attack.

Criticism is fine, but note that in criticism, ideas are discredited, not the person offering the idea . . .”
    http://acecomments.mu.nu/?blog=86&post=358697#c24109170

      Epidemic?

Instapundit has been having a lot of problems too. Entire comment threads are basically unreadable, because over–zealous Trump supporters have been going in and falsely reporting as “abuse” any comments which are even mildly critical of The One.

It’s been an ugly time lately for just about any politics-centered blog.

Rather than wallow in regret for times I might transgress
I’d rather shout out “Hooray!”, sir, if you’re cleaning up this mess
I’d send a fat check to the blog, had I a bigger money box
But I’ll do what I can, keep my tongue in check, and remove LI from my Ad-blocks

It’s clear in this election cycle that the conservative base, more than anything, is looking for someone who will simply stand and fight. Ronald Reagan could do it. Sarah Palin could do that. Carly Fiorina does it. Ted Cruz does it. Donald Trump does it.

However conservative Mr. Trump may or may not be, there are plenty of conservatives who are just relieved so see someone in the the melee, broken beer bottle in hand, punching away.

That’s one way reason why Jeb is foundering: when he punched, he was punching at the base. That especially isn’t going to sell this cycle. Scott Walker knows a thing or do about bare-knuckle brawls, but he’s been way too polite so far.

As the saying goes, “politics ain’t beanbag.” Stand up to the Democrats or get out of the way.

Great ad!

Terrible BIG GOVERNMENT candidate!

Here’s a shocka…

The eGOP appears ready to go in EXACTLY the wrong directing in dealing with T-rump.

This, of course, is NOT to say that T-rump isn’t Mr. Establishment. He is. His entire life.

Trump is a great addition to the 2016 campaign and especially to the GOP race. And, while I like Trump and the positions he has defined, at least in board terms, it’s too early to get ballistic about any candidate. Still, Trump is the one who could derail his own campaign, were he to implode; an act any candidate could do on his own.

Trump’s position on immigration has been well defined in board terms, goals really. The subsequent details will be important in so far as they flesh out the goals he’s setting out for his policy.

Still, the views of Trump and others will be clearer, or they won’t, on issues important to the electorate. And, that will help define better what support the candidates have from us.

I’m not going to get my knickers in a bunch at this point in the race; heck they haven’t even gotten into the starting gate for now, they’re somewhere back huddling up and pushing around for a chance to get to the gate.

Oops, I’m very willing to go ballistic, mildly so, about any dynastic candidate in the field; political dynasties should be torn down, not built up.

While most people may be unaware of the Conservative Hispanic community’s staunch condemnation of Jorge Ramos and their support for Trump’s immigration plan, it can be observed on the Twitter hashtag:

#VivaTrump2016

https://twitter.com/hashtag/vivatrump2016

I have been using that hashtag and also experimenting with targeted anti-Ramos tweeting in Spanish.

Instagram? Isn’t that what airheads use to post selfies of their butts?

Well I recall the 1964 “daisy” ad that devastated Goldwater. It only ran once, but got so much coverage on the news for free it might as well have been a major ad buy.

Illegal aliens are responsible for the deaths of more than 5,000 US citizens annually (murders, deaths caused by DUI, etc.).

smalltownoklahoman | August 31, 2015 at 4:18 pm

Hard hitting and right to the point! Hopefully these ads will also be very effective.

Speaking of Ford…

“I would say very simply, ‘Fellas, sorry, you gotta move back.’”
“I’ll call them up and say, ‘Gotta go. I don’t want you in Mexico.’”
“I would say to the head of Ford, ‘Sorry, I’m not gonna approve. You’re gonna pay a tax, for every car and every truck and every part that comes across that southern border, you’re gonna pay a 35% tax, OK?’ That’s what’s gonna happen.”

Sounds BIG GOVERNMENT to me. And like the wet dream of the United Auto Workers.

But not so good for America’s working class when they need a car, truck or parts.

Plus…

    So, down-twinklers…

Did you hit that down-thumb because…

    1. you can’t call me names, but you gotta hate?

    2. Trump DID NOT say what he’s quoted as saying?

    3. you think it’s the job of the POTUS to tell Americans with whom and where they do business, or be arbitrarily taxed?

    4. you don’t care about economics and want to have Mr. Establishments baby?

Bush is failing so badly (as he should be) Karl Rove and the rest of the RINO establishment are already starting to push Rubio. Why push Rubio you ask? Because Rubio is nothing but Bush with a different face. Gang of 8 amnesty supporter/member and brought up by and a protege of Jeb Bush. Loved by Rove, Bush, McCain and Graham. Rubio would get my vote only if I went crazy but decided not to do a write in vote for Boehner or McConnell for president.

Sammy Finkelman | September 1, 2015 at 6:54 am

This would be like Willie Horton if the premise was that all blacks should be excluded from society, not just criminals, and especially that anyone convicted of a felony should never be released if he was black.

Sammy Finkelman | September 1, 2015 at 7:05 am

Correction: The Willie Horton case conncerned the principle of releasing even convicted mrderers from prisonn temporarily, for furloughs. Jeb Bush was not talking about anything like that, and even the case in point in San Francisco doesn’t involve a convicted murderer, but it involved someone whose deportation was postponed so he cold face a 25-year old relatively minor criminal charge in San Francisco, which was dismissed, after which he was released, because he was not turned over to San Francisco until all pending fedral charges were disposed of and his prison sentence completed, and San Francisco does not turn someone over to ICE merely for deportation.

Kate Steinle’s killer should not have been here. He was an illegal immigrant who had committed criminal acts on US soil, and he should not have been roaming around free to kill Americans on American soil.

Kate Steinle would still be alive if our government had done a better job of enforcing the immigration laws we already have on the books. There’s just no getting around that.

Exactly. And who in the GOP establishment backed Trump calling out sanctuary cities? Or did anything stopping it? Who?

Trump turned on the national lights and the cockroaches on both sides went to war against… Trump. Why? Corporate Sponsors’ Donations b/c cheap foriegn labor.

In 2010, Carly Fiorina stated that she strongly supported Arizona’s SB 1070, which opposed funding sanctuary cities and granting amnesty to illegal immigrants.

Q: On illegal immigration, you support the Arizona crackdown, the new law in Arizona. What do you say to those Latino voters–and it’s a big voting bloc in California–who say this is going to lead to racial profiling?

A: You know, I’m very proud of the large number of Hispanic endorsements that I’ve received. And when I talk with members of the Latino community–and I will continue to reach out to them–what they say to me is you know what, this is a question of criminals crossing the border. The truth is this. The federal government isn’t doing its job. It’s the federal government’s job to secure the border. The Obama administration has de-funded securing the border. While Barbara Boxer stands up and challenges the constitutionality of the Arizona law and vilifies people of Arizona, what she should be doing–what I would be doing–is figuratively standing on the president’s desk and saying, “Mr. President, the federal government needs to do its job and secure the border.”

I’m limited to two links, so you’re welcome to check out some more here.

Other conservatives as well were saying the same things. It’s really sad that so many low-information voters have let themselves be bamboozled by the media and a bombastic reality-TV self-promoter into ignoring the actual track records of the more serious candidates out there.

          The question you responded to:

And who in the GOP establishment backed Trump calling out sanctuary cities? Or did anything stopping it? Who?

Carly Fiorina is an outsider not a GOP Establishment candidate and is railing against the GOP/CNN collaboration to keep her off the second debate stage.

Also, Carly does not hold elected office thus could not ‘do’ anything about legislatively stopping sanctuary cities.

          I ask again…

Who in the GOP establishment backed Trump calling out sanctuary cities? Or did anything stopping it? Who?

We are in a Presidential election campaign, and we are discussing Presidential candidates.

Trump keeps putting the propaganda out there that you just parroted, that he is the Only One Who Ever Came Out Against Sanctuary Cities, and it simply isn’t true.

Stop believing everything he tells you. He’s a self-promoter – he does this for a living. “Question Authority!”

          To Amy,

Thus, you offer no GOP Establishment Candidate who did anything about stopping sanctuary cities.

I knew you couldn’t. I knew the answer to my question: None Of Them.

BTW, this is not personal for me, nor should it be for you, Amy. Your anger is obvious but anger at voters who support Trump is not effective, and, in fact, it strengthens Trump’s supporters’ resolve. Their support for Trump is irrepressible as is Trump himself so far.

I suggest to anyone who opposes Trump’s candidacy to support vigorously, their chosen candidate and focus on that strategy.

          Your anger is obvious…

          Oh, dear.

Ragspierre in reply to Amy in FL. | September 1, 2015 at 4:19 pm

Are you angry, Amy? Did you call her a “communist”, “RINO”, or “as_hole”?

          I don’t recall you doing that…

Rags & Amy, I do not for one second believe Amy is angry at me personally. I see anger at Trump specifically and his supporters in general. There is a difference, you see.

Ragspierre in reply to Amy in FL. | September 1, 2015 at 5:49 pm

Yeah, I kinda do hate fraudsters. It’s a thing with me.
