IANAL so I’m hoping the legal minds on this board can explain to me how/why deferral of deportation confers the status of lawful presence on any person who wasn’t already lawfully present. Am I wrong to have serious doubts about the legality of providing Social Security numbers and work permits to people who shouldn’t be here?

What is Obama’s current stolen presidential powers will carry over to the next president should he or she choose to use them and a precedent has been set with which to steal more power as needed.

“Entitled.” There’s that word again.

And why are people who work always described as “hard-working”? The term is used as a reflexive or obligatory adjective for everyone from illegals to taxpayers. Surely some of them/us are time-wasters, clock-watchers, and just phoning it in. Many of us do what we have to do to keep a particular job, but we are not exactly setting the world on fire with actual hard work. Of course, I don’t describe myself or anybody else among the LI commentariat in these terms — other people only.
