It happens that one of the boys did use an “app”. He contacted the police with his cell phone (I assume) and twice whispered “we’ve been kidnapped” (one word in Hebrew). Unfortunately, the police were used to Arabs making make calls to gum up the works, and dismissed it initially as a prank.
