Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee: The Constitution is even older than Ezra Klein thinks

Condescending lectures on the Constitution don’t work when you think it’s 400 years old

Remember what Ezra Klein said about our old Constitution?

“The issue of the Constitution is that the text is confusing because it was written more than 100 years ago and what people believe it says differs from person to person and differs depending on what they want to get done.”

The internet remembers.

Proving that “great minds” think alike, Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) proclaimed the Constitution has guided our nation for “some 400 years.” (h/t HotAir):

Frankly, maybe I should offer a good thanks to the distinguished members of the majority, the Republicans, my chairman, and others for giving us an opportunity to have a deliberative constitutional discussion that reinforces the sanctity of this nation and how well it is that we have lasted some 400 years operating under a Constitution that clearly defines what is constitutional and what is not. The Enforcement Act is not constitutional, but it gives us an opportunity to raise these issues. That’s what freedom is, that’s what the opportunity of democracy is all about.

Of course, the Constitution was in fact ratified in 1788, when New Hampshire became the 9th of the 13 states to adopt it. By 1790, all 13 states had agreed to ratification.

We wish Rep. Jackson Lee’s continued success in Congress, and Ezra Klein success at Vox.com.

…and then Guam capsized…

It is unbelievable idiots like this are not held accountable for their stupidity and removed from office.

Heh. Another shameless effort to appeal to low info voters. Pfft!

It’s worth bearing in mind that Ms. Jackson-Lee was involved a few years ago in some sort of dust-up, I think it was over whether she should be driven two blocks in a limousine. Her response was that she was a queen and should be treated like a queen.

I need hardly point out to anyone reading this that claiming as a congresswoman you are like a queen is not really in keeping with the constitution’s contemplation about what an elected representative should be or think of herself.

Nevertheless, she keeps getting re-elected. Her constituents deserve her.

blah, blah…”…lasted 400 years, operating under a constitution, that clearly defines, what is constitutional and what is not.”

In other words, it’s a good thing we have rules, otherwise, we wouldn’t know what the rules are.

The only thing that scares me more than SJL are the people who vote for her.

It happened, I moved into the district this piece of garbage is representing and though my vote may be the lone dissenting vote it will feel incredibly good to vote against her.

Queen Sheila is an example of, “Watch what you wish for.” Before the rise of Queen Sheila, old-school community activist Craig Washington represented the district, which includes the downtown Houston. Well, the business community was frustrated that old Craig wasn’t “business friendly” so a couple of them went looking for a fool they could back and run for the seat. At the time, Sheila had been on city council and was out of office trying desperately to run for anything and get her some more of that power and prestige.

Well, a couple of well-heeled members of the Houston business community, with the blessings of the Greater Houston Partnership, ran her for Washington’s seat. The business community contributed loads of cash, and yes, she won.

Those two businessmen? Ken Lay and Jeff Skilling, the latter of whom was her shadow campaign manager!

LOL, how appropriate. I haven’t been in Houston long (5 years), so I don’t know the back story on a lot of the politicians. This story has to take the cake though, (Orren Boyle) businessmen elect crony liberal.

Embarrassing isn’t she. I live just outside of her district. SJL makes me pine for the days of Barbara Jordan.

ck. my blog for a photoshop of our Constitutional whiz

I bet she thinks that they found the Constitution on Mars when they landed there.

Just because you dress like a clown doesn’t mean you should act like one…
