Obamacare affective disorder

Just an anecdote, but one that I think is illustrative.

I was at a wedding this weekend and saw someone I’ve known for a long time. She’s not a very political person.

She’s a therapist, and she volunteered to several of us how at this holiday time of year, her patients normally complain about family problems.

But this year, all people wanted to talk about was how anxious and worried they were about losing their health care plans, or relatives and friends who were losing their plans. She said the spontaneous voicing of concerns about loss of insurance really took her aback.

Just an anecdote?

Maybe, but it would be consistent with recent polling:

BY THE NUMBERS: Most Americans Not Happy With Obamacare

3 out of 4 say the rollout of the Affordable Care Act has gone poorly

Nearly 50 percent with job-based or private plans say their coverage will be changing for the worse in the next year

4 out of 5 blame Obamacare for unwanted changes in their coverage

69 percent say their premiums are going up

59 percent say their annual deductible or copayments are increasing

14 percent say coverage for spouses is being eliminated

11 percent say their health insurance has been discontinued

60 percent say they disapprove of President Obama’s handling of health care

IF the Republicans play their hand with any competence at all, this should be the issue that comes back to bite the democrats in the butt come November…

Look for the GOP to blow this incredible opportunity.

Instead, stave the rotten-to-the-core Republican Party out of existence: relegate it to history, along with the Whig Party.

Instead, support the Tea Party. It is the only chance we will have in our lifetimes to salavage our way of life.

What’s your plan for engineering an official Tea Party takeover of Congress in 2014? How about your strategy for getting an official Tea Party candidate to defeat both the Democrats and the Republicans in 2016?

    Just wondering.

      Their plan?

If any, it seems to be that suddenly all the Low Information Voters will wake up, open their eyes, and smell the coffee that Democrats offer only dependance and misery.

Apparently, this will happen either spontaneously or else Ted Cruz or Rand Paul will give a speech that changes everything.

Or maybe a magic unicorn will come and help, like with Obama’s grand plans.

Boehner half heartedly managed the government shutdown … but never really made the case that it was Reid with the pocket veto of funding on his desk, declaring “I will not do this piecemeal”. So Reid declared the House’s power of the purse null and void, and Boehner agreed.

Boehner hung the tea party out to dry, while he joined Democrats in saying the shut down was a tea party problem, and he removed tea partiers from positions of power. And he didn’t even cry about it.

Boehner could have ended the shut down as Barrycades were erected on day two (since he was never really prepared to stick to his guns, and was always going to surrender), and marched with a big freedom gavel with the vets past the Barrycades. Mission accomplished. He chose to not let the manufactured crisis go to waste … and used it to blast the tea party, and we the people. “They made me do it”

The tea party needs to take over the Republican party first, but we will have no billions like leftists that have formed their power cabals for decades. Under Obama’s redistributions to the left, unions and select friends are richer than ever. It might take a bigger calamity than Obamacare to change the country’s course … and an economic one is probably coming in a year or four.

Blaming Ted Cruz and Rand Paul after years and years of GOP failures is positively liberal. Congratulations. You have arrived.

Statistically, over half of those polled voted for ObamaCare’s namesake; you plant ice, you’re going to harvest wind.

Obama likes to use hatchets where scalpels are appropriate. He likes to use scalpels where life has been conceived.

Playing the odds, I would guess [very much subject to rebuttal by the Professor] that the therapist friend is inclined to the Left side of things politically, even if she herself is not an activist. Kinda goes with the profession. And similarly, that most of her patient base is similarly liberal/Leftist. That gives her anecdote more weight.

Just so we don’t forget their names, here are the 25 Senators who had a chance to defund Obamacare but chose to vote with Harry Reid instead:

Alexander

Ayotte

Barrasso

Blunt

Boozman

Burr

Chambliss

Chiesa

Coats

Coburn

Cochran

Collins

Corker

Cornyn

Graham

Hoeven

Isakson

Johanns

Johnson (WI)

Kirk

McCain

McConnell

Murkowski

Thune

Wicker

The White House is so out of touch with reality that they thought they had to encourage people to talk about Obamacare during the holidays. (…and somehow these out of touch elitists got elected twice. I guess they traded common sense for political sense.)

Perhaps they are figuring out Obamacare was never about healthcare or health insurance.

What difference, at this point, does it make? Obama isn’t going anywhere nor is Obamacare. Republicans haven’t the guts to do anything, only flog the issue just enough to con the base into more seats in 2014, upon which they will promptly do nothing in order to argue that to win in 2016 they can’t rock the media boat. And on it goes. We bring a revolution or insurrection to their front door, maybe something will change. If Cruz or Palin runs and we take on the Establishment in the primaries with fire and fury, maybe there’s hope. But I thought this would happen in 2012 and was seriously wrong. We’re running out of time and chances. The GOPe will watch America die and do nothing. They must be overthrown.

LibraryGryffon | January 5, 2014 at 11:20 pm

She must not have any patients who work in health care, or who have family members in the field. We’re not just worrying about our insurance, but our jobs.

Phillep Harding in reply to LibraryGryffon. | January 6, 2014 at 12:56 am

There are always a few idiots around. Ran into a couple at Skagit Valley Hospital.

They /might/ have wised up by now, but I’m not hopeful.

Even the dumbest voters realize they’ve been screwed when their money disappears before their very eyes. They know their health insurance is going up, they are going to find their costs and copays are going up, too.

The real challenge for Republicans is not to get diverted into some smaller squabbles. The unemployment benefit extension is only one of a dozen Obama will try to distract America, with the willing help of the media (IF they believe they can get away with it, presently they don’t).

“But this year, all people wanted to talk about was how anxious and worried they were about losing their health care plans, or relatives and friends who were losing their plans. She said the spontaneous voicing of concerns about loss of insurance really took her aback.”

Wow, those Pajama Boy commercials worked! People did talk about Obamacare during the holiday season.

Doesn’t surprise me. First we were all depressed about Obama getting elected, now it’s the radical effects of Obamacare. People do poorly when they are anxious or worried about basic needs, and that definitely includes healthcare and being able to afford to live.

The malignant media does an amazing job of covering up just how bad morale is in the country, they do it by hiding the truth…if the truth were known election outcomes would be different. In the meantime, the Dems keep their victim groups stirred up and buy their votes.

Henry Hawkins in reply to Lady Penguin. | January 6, 2014 at 12:55 pm

Are you suggesting people acquire their bad morale not from their own hearts and situations, but from media?

Buck up! Typhoon coming November 2014!!!

Some woman was on with Chris Wallace yesterday, claiming half the opposition to Obamacare is from those saying it did not go far enough. (he didn’t challenge her)

That seems to be part of the pitch for moving to “single payer”, full government control. But I really don’t believe it, unless by “not far enough”, they mean it did nothing to actually control costs.

She intended it as “half want even more government intrusion”. But the public has never supported government health care, which is why they are doing this end run, trying to destroy private insurance first.

Obamacare really IS government care, with insurance companies the proxy for government, responding to the whims of Obama, holding a promise from Obama that he will bail them out if they just play along. So the skyrocketing rates for most are a tax in effect, punishing the responsibly insured lower middle class more than anyone … a huge tax of thousands of dollars in higher premiums and higher deductibles.

“if you like you plan and doctor you can keep them … period.
no one making under $250,000 a year will pay one dime more in taxes.” He lies.

Another pitch is that costs are actually rising more slowly under Obamacare (not fully implemented) than in the past. I don’t believe that either. They never back up that claim, and I don’t know what plan they are looking at … they tend to lie about EVERYTHING. It may be that some “Cadillac plans” are not rising as quickly, because everyone is being forced into them. They lie.

In addition to expressing fear and frustration –

The patients are letting the therapist know she may be dropped in the New Year when their plan does not cover her.

TrooperJohnSmith | January 6, 2014 at 1:14 pm

Just imagine if Hillary comes out for repealing ObamaCare! It’s a win-win for her, and as we’ve seen in the past, she has no moral aversion to taking any position or espousing any belief to get what she wants.

Here’s an intriguing read for The Canadian Free Press:

Wow! Not only will Obamacare severely depress the economy but just the thought of it depresses people, too.

Soon we will all be sitting in a room, in our pajamas, where music plays constantly and Big Nurse – Nurse Rached – hands us paper cups w/our daily sedatives.

2nd Ammendment Mother | January 6, 2014 at 2:03 pm

I do realize that all medical issues are very complicated…. but my mother has been hospitalized for the last 45 days due to a difficult to diagnose liver and kidney dysfunction. Prior to Christmas her primaries were 2 very well credentialed doctors …. on Jan 2, her primary was transferred to a nurse practitioner. She’s been very depressed ever since.

My sympathy for the stress your Mom and you are going through due to the needless tribulations being inflicted by this administration. The saddest part is the damage to people, like your Mom, who are the most vulnerable to have their health issues exacerbated by the excessive high stress. I wish you well in getting it resolved..soon.
