Facebook chats released in Florida cyberbullying suicide case

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office on Friday released private Facebook chats of two middle school girls, aged 12 and 14, who were recently charged with aggravated stalking in connection with the bullying case of Rebecca Sedwick.

Sedwick, 12, who was allegedly bullied by the two for months, took her own life in September.

The Facebook chats reveal the reactions of the two girls after learning about Sedwick’s death.  In one chat with an unidentified friend, the 14 year old defendant says, “it was best for everyone that she went to hell , no one [will] ever know the truth.”

14 year old defendant: Cant believe Rebecca is dead , I thought they wouldn’t find the body

Friend: What r u talking about u thought they never find the body?

Ik she died but what u mean by that

Defendant: They found her body , I thought they weren’t they “think” its sewcide hope it stays that way.

Friend: Y u talking like that? What’s wrong with u

Defendant: No reason it was best for everyone that she went to hell , no one with ever know the truth

In a separate chat with the 12 year old defendant, the 14 year old initially seemed remorseful. (Excerpt)

12 year old defendant: Why does everything have to f*** up i feel like rebeccas dead cause of me if only i could say sorry

14 year old defendant: Iknow I feel so bad omg I feel like its all my fault for saying all that s*** to her omg I didn’t mean for nun diz to happen,” she told the 12 year old

In another chat with an unidentified friend, the 12 year old again expresses remorse, telling the friend, [sic] “Yea im bully i deserve to die i wish it was me and not her…Shes the only one i bullied and now i cant say sorry.”

Some well known lawyers have since joined the case.

Jose Baez, who earned his name recognition defending Casey Anthony, is now representing the 12 year old defendant, according to WKMG Local 6 News/ClickOrlando.

Meanwhile, Jose Baez, the attorney representing Katelyn, told reporters on Friday that his client didn’t do anything criminal and he would not allow the justice system to bully her.

“We don’t need to have any more tragedy,” said Baez, who represented Casey Anthony at her murder trial in 2011.

Baez, speaking after a court hearing, said that Rebecca’s death was tragic.

“She feels absolutely horrible for what happened to Rebecca,” Baez said.

And on Thursday, the Orlando Sentinel reported that former Florida Governor Charlie Crist is working with Sedwick’s mother as she explores legal options.

Former Governor Charlie Crist is helping Rebecca Sedwick’s mother explore her legal options after the 12-year-old jumped to her death because of cyberbullying.

Rebecca’s mother, Tricia Norman, hired the prominent Morgan & Morgan law firm in her quest for justice and Crist is one of the attorneys working on the case.

While no legal actions have been taken by Sedwick’s mother yet, her attorneys said that they have not ruled out civil actions against Polk County schools or the parents of the two girls accused of bullying Sedwick, according to the Orlando Sentinel report.

It sounds like the 14 year old actually murdered Rebecca and made it look like “sewcide”. The cops should be looking at this like a homicide.

At this point, I imagine they are – in most jurisdictions, suicides are considered “suspicious” until homicide is officially ruled out.

That thing about finding the body makes me think Rebecca was pushed. The cops ought to grill that 14 year old like a toasted cheese sandwich.

Ms. Sedwick is getting together with Crist? Does she know what she’s dealing with?

Oh! Jose Baez is the defense attorney! This should be interesting to say the least.

They have some real loose canons representing or trying to help these families.
