A passing victory for two failed ideologies

A passing victory for two failed ideologies

Updates: Why we fight.

I’m on a break from a conference I’m at all week, so I’m following the news on Twitter.

Looks like there is a “done deal” which achieves little for the American people or the future of the nation.  The monstrosity known as Obamacare remains in place and the national debt keeps growing toward oblivion.

I’m glad some people tried to stop both.

At least some Republicans are on record as being willing to do just about anything to stop Obamacare although not as much as Obama and Democrats were willing to do to save it.  If there were hostage-takers and suicide bombers, they weren’t Ted Cruz and Mike Lee or the conservatives in the House.

Fact is, Obamacare is so precious to Obama that he would have, in his words, thrown the country into default rather than make changes everyone knows are needed.

That the Democrats have succeeded in portraying those who wanted to help Americans as terrorists is a testament to Democrats’ ability to synchronize messaging, a sympathetic and lazy media, back-stabbing and weak Republicans, and a failure of will.

I’m convinced that as time goes on, those who fought the good fight will be vindicated.  Stand with them as the long-knives come out.

There will be some spiking of the football by Obama supporters.  So what else is new.

There also will be I-told-you-so’s from some Republicans.  I care even less about that.

Move on to the next fights.

At most this is a passing victory for two failed ideologies, neither of which holds much hope for the future.

Update:  Wow, Brit Hume may be the only mainstream commentator who understands why there was at least an attempt to defund Obamacare and hold the line on the national debt (via Ace):

“In conventional terms, it seems inexplicable, but Senator Cruz and his adherents do not view things in conventional terms. They look back over the past half-century, including the supposedly golden era of Ronald Reagan, and see the uninterrupted forward march of the American left.

Entitlement spending never stopped growing. The regulatory state continued to expand. The national debt grew and grew and finally in the Obama years, exploded. They see an American population becoming unrecognizable from the free and self-reliant people they thought they knew.

And they see the Republican Party as having utterly failed to stop the drift toward an unfree nation supervised by an overweening and bloated bureaucracy.

They are not interested in Republican policies that merely slow the growth of this leviathan.

They want to stop it and reverse it. And they want to show their supporters they’ll try anything to bring that about.

Update No. 2: I’ll probably have more on this later, but since I’m tight for time, here’s an excerpt from an excellent post by Keith Koffler at White House Dossier, The Tea Party is Both Sensible and Victorious:

The muttering class Inside the Beltway is very pleased with itself: The doomed Tea Party strategy is foundering on the shoals of idiocy, just like they said it would. The Republican “brand” has been downgraded yet again. America is looks foolish abroad: “The world has reacted mostly with disbelief that a superpower could fall into such dysfunction,” wrote the New York Times today. Reasonable people will soon be back in charge so they can do reasonable things in a reasonable way without all these Tea Party lunatics stirring up trouble.

Let me tell all of you something:

THIS COUNTRY IS ALREADY IN A STATE OF TOTAL DYSFUNCTION, AND HAS BEEN FOR YEARS.

A state of dysfunction, mind you, brought to you by the “reasonable” people who have been striking deals for years that have created $17 trillion in debt and a possibly irreversible degree of Socialism that is lobotomizing our tradition of independent thinking and creativity, crippling free enterprise, and carving the soul out of the moral, God-fearing ethic that has made this nation the greatest on earth.

You’ll see them all on the Sunday talk shows, concurring solemnly with each other about the need to avoid such shenanigans again so our system can resume functioning in a normal manner.

But as you and I know, “normal” has become a state of somnolence in which our leaders steadily sleepwalk us into the abyss.

Pat Buchanan, with whom I seldom agree, pointed out a great set of truths in a recent piece reviewing history.

Strong, principled Conservatives are…in time…vindicated and rewarded.

Spineless, “moderates” are lost to the dust-heap of history.

I am delighted with the conduct of Cruz, Gohmert, Lee, and others.

I support them, and will support them.

I will do all I can to rain down payback on the heads of the mushy “leaders” who have perpetuated “business as usual” in the swamp that is DC.

Sadly, this is not shocking.

Uhmmm… Origination clause?

Take note GOP, every one of you who votes for this betrayal of the rank and file will be targeted for primary challenges. We may not even get you out this time around but one day we will.

Congressman King, you are dead to us. I don’t give a crap if you didn’t think the strategy wouldn’t work, once you start down the road with the team there is no off ramp until you get there. You have de facto endorsed ObamaCare and wild spending by Obama and his pals. This will not be forgotten come 2014, you have to go.

the latest constitutional and societal debacle can be summed up in one observation. the republican opposition is incorrigibly and perennially divided with a lot of liberals having crept into the party of lincoln and reagan. Jesus Christ said a house divided against itself cannot stand. the moral would be without further ado or delay to form a true opposition party united in constitutional conservatism and Christian morality in lieu of the now fully-compromised thus ineffectual, traitorous republican party.

Obamacare is just a symptom of the real problem. Politicians on both sides of the aisle who view taxpayers as an unlimited piggy bank. Politicians who think it’s okay to spend as much money as they like… because we can always print more.

think about how a default will look like and live your life accordingly.

Default has happened whether the world acknowledges it or not. When the world does, it will not be pretty.

Well Professor, I think it is time the website lives up to its name. Get the word out to all the young people and even the Daily Kos people who are becoming to know they have been betrayed by ObamaCare when they attempted to sign up for the over sold hype by Obama.

Young people, don’t sign up for ObamaCare but more importantly DON’T NOT SIGN UP FOR HEALTH INSURANCE. Use commercial insurance websites like ehealthinsurance.com to get a NON ObamaCare insurance plan and thus register your vote of disapproval for being lied to by the hype master. Get regular health insurance, it is available for coverage in 2014 IF you sign up before December 15th! In some cases, even those policies will be allowed to roll over into 2015 but we are not going to know until then.

In the meantime, by taking a NON ObamaCare policy you have made a powerful public statement regarding accountability of public office holders who tell you what you want to hear and then refuse to deliver what was promised. Obama got your vote based on a promise, he broke that promise, now it is time for accountability! It’s called Civil Disobedience.

In fact, young liberals, here is an object lesson about politicians in general even liberal ones like Obama. If they think there are no consequences to lying, they will lie repeatedly to your face and then thumb their noses right in your face because they think they can get away with it. Obama failed to deliver on ObamaCare because he knew up until this point that you would excuse his behavior at any cost, him being a Democrat. You did this to yourselves, you created a politician who believes they can do as they please because they wear the label “Democrat.” This is what happens when you don’t discipline your own as we do in the GOP.

Yes, some of the turds, our turds, still get uppity to us like McCain and King, but their comeuppance will be there in due time as Arlen Specter and Lincoln Chaffee found out. You can only thumb your nose at the rank and file for so long before the consequences mount up. It is time for you young liberals to discipline your party elders for lying to you about ObamaCare otherwise if you don’t do anything they will disrespect you over and over.

Oh and BTW, young liberals, if you think the policy cost are so huge now, just you wait when Obama and his flunkies lump in the cost of making those 11 million illegal aliens eligible for ObamaCare. None of these people are going to pay like you do, they will get the full subsidy and you won’t.

So when Obama blows that dog whistle on equal rights for all undocumented immigrants guess who gets the shaft even deeper up the backside? Yeap, that’s you young liberals. Just remember that when the rich limousine liberal set like Pelosi employ their maids, gardeners and general laborers. You the good little liberal rank and file members will be paying for their health insurance so Pelosi and the rest of rich limousine set won’t have to…

Bruce Hayden in reply to dscott. | October 17, 2013 at 8:21 am

Not sure why you think that there would only be 11 million or so of what are currently illegal aliens. Immigration “Reform” may ultimately legalize 30 or so million through family ties. Nearly 10% of our current population! most with rudimentary education and job skills (our attempt to get such a path to citizenship for the best and brightest went nowhere, instead more 8A visas would be granted). Almost none of the newly legalized would pay their own way before ObamaCare is even considered, and fort that, they would almost all be massively subsidized.

I wonder if the Obama supporters will ‘spike the football’ along the lines of how the Daily Kos moron did?

STOP CALLING THIS DISASTER OF obamaCARE, obamaCARE! This supposedly ‘throw off line’ by obama is nothing more than A balm that keeps soothing HIS Narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) and DATS BAD!

DisasterCare is a much better name AND it is proving true.

Henry Hawkins | October 16, 2013 at 3:12 pm

Most politicians know full well spending must be cut, but they fear the backlash for doing it. So, they kick that can down the road as long as possible and hope some future government takes the fall.

Unfortunately, the experience of Detroit’s bankruptcy shows that it is no certainty that eventually some future government will finally bite the bullet and do what they have to, damn the personal political consequences.

Do we suppose national level politicians will be more responsible when national bankruptcy becomes absolutely imminent?

No, because the Federal Reserve will continue to buy US Bonds at zero interest if they have to. There will be no bankruptcy like Detroit or Greece, just devaluation of the Dollar through electronic printing by sending ones and zeros over the wires.

In the meantime, the poor and what’s left of the middle class will have to pay more for food and fuel, that’s if their food stamps and other welfare payments can keep up. Democrats are tax and spenders, inflation via selling US Bonds to the Federal Reserve is just a clever form of stealth taxation to pay for stuff they promised through deficit spending. This is why Obama can with a straight face say raising the debt limit doesn’t increase the debt, all of us rubes will be made to pay it via inflation because Obama and his minions have no intension of ever paying that money back, because we paid it already.

Politicians and Courage are like oil and water… You gotta really shake things up before you can get them together at all.

Another can kicked down the road, and another generation will pay for our folly.

Well said.

At the end of September, Obama was the lamest of lame duck presidents with Senators in his own party deigning to block his choice for Fed Chairman and blocking other initiatives [h/t George Will]. The “nothing but a clean CR” posturing suckered the House into a shutdown, and now Obama is having record fundraising efforts. So instead of just quietly funding the government and letting the lameness compound, the Right gave Obama a resounding victory, renewed strength, and a greater command. Cruz, Lee, House GOP — the Keystone Cops say hello.

I am all for making a point, but I am not for raising expectations that the House can unilaterally repeal or dismantle Obamacare. Let Obamacare implementation do that.
And why not have the House debate and pass — on a WEEKLY basis — the merits of a clean CR and the merits of this law flouting POTUS. Each week, they could pass another week of funding WHILE PONDERING HEARINGS ON A LAWLESS PRESIDENCY with unsaid hints that each week exposes a new article of impeachment. I am slightly advocating an investigation into whether the conduct is impeachable and massively advocating the media attention that such an angle brings us.

And can someone get the GOP to stop playing checkers? Obama, the Senate and the dominant media were playing rope-a-dope chess all along.

    jdkchem in reply to Mark30339. | October 16, 2013 at 6:17 pm

Lying and pedaling propaganda is not playing chess. There has not been one entitlement or regulation that has ever been rolled back. You cannot ever expect to reason with freeloading idiots and fools. The only way these idiots will learn anything is by causing them to suffer painfully and extremely.

It’s not just the new tax piggy bank; it’s about the destruction America and the slavery of its people. Read your history books about great nations. The government is to find out the destructive part.

Obamacare preserves the status quo: a progressive fleecing of Americans. It normalizes the right of a woman to terminate a human life without cause or due process. This is everything Obama was dreaming about: redistributive change and progressive corruption. Now women and men can be equally taxed and irresponsible for their voting pleasure.

SmokeVanThorn | October 16, 2013 at 4:16 pm

Thank you, Professor.

Right now I’m feeling numb. When the 2014 and 2016 elections roll around, I hope I’m indifferent.

Appreciate your perspective Professor. This has been a bitter pill to swallow. The Dems demonize more than half of America, and the Republican Party aids and abets them – having been hiding as #undocumentedDemocrats all these years.

Ragspierre in reply to Lady Penguin. | October 16, 2013 at 7:55 pm

Think about the Texas rebels when the Alamo fell.

Or the Continental Army as it was pushed all over the colonies in one rear-guard action after another…barefoot in the snow.

Think about the men and women at Pearl Harbor the night of Dec. 7th.

We still have a war to fight.

There is a reason ‘apocolyptic-chic’ is all the rage…those who recognize the cliff is actually 15′ above us and we’re already reaching terminal speed are merely preparing for the inevitable crash.

As Glenn Reynolds is often pointing out: something that can’t go on forever, won’t. Printing trillions of new dollars is exactly what the Weimar republic did to destroy their government and create the national socialist party…and the Federal Reserve has done the same thing to the American republic.

Cruz and Rand are trying to save the dollars’ value but the Administration, George Soros, GOP ‘leadership’ and Democrats have other goals…and you aren’t part of them.

MaggotAtBroadAndWall | October 16, 2013 at 4:41 pm

I saw Brit Hume give that spiel on Special Report. Real Clear Politics had the video up yesterday, too.

Unfortunately, Hume appears to have borrowed heavily without attribution from Ross Douthat’s piece written on Oct. 2. Douthat’s piece, in turn, was inspired by a book written by David Frum in the early 1990s. I REALLY hope Douthat’s ultimate conclusion is wrong.

http://douthat.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/10/02/why-the-right-fights/?_r=0

Of course, by the time everyone realizes that the system is doomed to unsustainable dependence when politicians keep promising and foolish voters keep believing, it will collapse under the weight of devaluation like Zimbabwe, Argentina, Mexico and Weimar Germany. When they end, they end badly or even linger as a shell of themselves like Argentina. Mexico is mired in endless corruption and Zimbabwe is in the hands of a dictator for life who doles out jobs as political favors while the rest starve. Only Germany has recovered from that death spiral and at what cost?

Obama has his ace in the hole, the Federal Reserve, it will keep printing money now to doomsday to buy US Treasury Bonds. In Obama’s world, everyone can work for the government because the government is the people and people is the government. In other words, the Federal Reserve will print every penny for every check that is to be written if and as necessary because the people will accept that worthless money for to do so is to reject themselves. Wealth creation is not a fiat of capitalist activity, it is a creation of our choice…without regard to production or profit but our needs – the liberal utopia on earth.

What did Obama say? “Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.”

The answer you don’t want to hear is if the majority has bought into this liberal nightmare utopia pack your bags and leave the fools to their demise. This is a Republic and you deserve the government you get.

Good quotes. 2014 is just around the corner.

So, our current crop of “Republicans” don’t seem to adhere to the Party’s platform.

What should we conservatives do?

Here’s an idea: Why don’t we try actually getting involved “inside” the Party where we live?

Here’s what each of us conservatives need to do. And easily can do.

It only takes a few hours a month.

We need to unite and organize where we live for real political action where it matters — inside the Republican Party where we live — by joining our local Republican Party committee.

Because right now we are NOT united and organized where we live for real political action where it matters.

Conservatives are splintered into scores of groups, such as FreedomWorks, the tea parties, the 9.12 groups, True the Vote, SarahPAC, the NRA, GOA, the right to life groups, etc., etc., etc.

Not enough of us conservatives are united politically in THE organization that really matters.

Which one is that? Wait for it . . . a political party.

Checking a box on a voter registration that says you are a Republican does not make you a Party member. Sending a check to the RNC and getting back a plastic card with your name embossed on it does not make you a Party member.

Right now about half of these party committee slots, nationwide, are vacant.

In most states, it’s called “precinct committeeman.”

There’s about 400,000 slots and about 200,000 are vacant.

200,000 conservatives, who want to really “do something” to help our country need to fill up these slots so we can transform the Republican Party from a half-strength, ideologically split Party into a full-strength, solidly conservative political party with a great Get Out The Vote ground game in every precinct so we can endorse the best conservative candidates in the all-important, traditionally-very-low-turnout primary elections and then help Get Out The Vote for those conservative candidates.

We need to focus on electing better people.

Now, raise your hand if you’re already a precinct committeeman.

Now, raise you hand if you’ll become one where you live.

This is the answer.

This works.

It’s just basic American civics in action.

After five years of this path to national suicide, don’t we need to at least try this?

Thank you.

I feel sick. Not as bad as last November. But I feel sick.

Since people are speculating as to what Cruz thinks, why no go to the source and see what he thinks of all this:

Video: Ted Cruz On Bi-Partisan Senate Deal

http://weaselzippers.us/2013/10/16/cruz/

So no Brit Hume, I must respectfully disagree, his view is far more practical and well spoken directly to the issue at hand. The crushing of the poor and middle class is the issue, the untold human suffering of millions caused by ObamaCare’s implementation is the issue, the millions of Americans who have their lives upended by less than 400 people making a decision passing a bill about their lives they had no care to even bother to read or consider the negative consequences flowing from their selfish partisan act.

The issue has been from the beginning, the condescending brutish act of making decisions that affect other people’s lives without their express consent. Liberalism has never been about respecting the will of others, it is a destitute selfish act of bullying those who they consider inferior to themselves and lying to cover up their brutishness.

Radegunda in reply to dscott. | October 16, 2013 at 8:46 pm

“The issue has been from the beginning, the condescending brutish act of making decisions that affect other people’s lives without their express consent.”

They also didn’t feel the need to follow a defensible process to do it. And they didn’t feel any need to know what was in the law because they knew they’d still get special treatment, and if they got voted out, they’d have access to the means by which ex-legislators get wealthy.

In the name of helping people, the Democrats have imposed what is, in effect, the most crushing tax increase ever inflicted in the American people — on people of modest means, not just “the rich.” They’re just using insurance companies (for now) to be their tax collectors. Then there’s the mass exodus from the medical profession, and what the result of that will be.

I’ve yet to see any sign that anyone who voted for the hideous law regrets it. They simply don’t care about us peons.

This isn’t a problem with politicians or the left. It’s a problem with the American people. Even without new programs, we’re already being crushed under the weight of Medicare, Social Security and the like, but even “libertarian” and conservitive-minded Tea Partiers feel entitled to the perpetuation of these systems in status quo.

They want to recoup what they feel they’ve paid in. Understandable but fatally flawed thinking.

I know this is an optimistic blog, and I’d like to sustain some optimism, but this is problem that runs extremely deep. We’re truly addicted to government and addictions are very hard to beat. I’m afraid we haven’t felt nearly enough pain to see the light.

Karen Sacandy in reply to RightKlik. | October 16, 2013 at 10:56 pm

I’m in favor of removing the government from social security, medicare, et cetera.

There are some people who believe families should prepare for these things.

But until there is progress, by all means, get your money out of the government.

Lady Penguin in reply to RightKlik. | October 17, 2013 at 5:00 am

I do want to point out that working people are paying into Social Security and Medicare. And until the government raided the Social Security funds, it was solvent. Once a person turns 65 (or 62 in some cases), they almost forced into the Medicare insurance system, but they’re not getting it for free. They pay a monthly premium and have co-pays.

One problem with the Medicare system is that Government, in its manifest magnanimity, tries to keep the co-pays low and reimbursements to MDs are too low. BUT, they won’t allow the MD to charge the patient any more to make up the difference.

One problem is that Government is always one size fits all (unless you’re part of the elitist, ruling class – that’s another universe entirely), but there millions of people who are on Medicare who could afford to pay more for their health care, despite being on “fixed incomes.” Sliding scale would be a viable solution.

John McCain with his smug appeasement and vicious anti-Tea Party slurring is doing as much damage to the future of the country as Obama.

The difference? Obama appears to know what he is doing (“transformation” = destruction of the free market and America as we know it). McCain is oblivious … wants to “get along” and keep the power and the gold in DC.

We’ve crossed the Rubicon. The nation is a banana republic, replete with corrupt opposition and a corrupt news media.

Our only hope for salvation is the Tea Party. The GOP is dead.

Karen Sacandy in reply to TheFineReport.com. | October 16, 2013 at 10:59 pm

With due respect, I know from my involvement with the Libertarian Party, and the GOP, that change is coming to the latter from the former.

Look at Rand Paul and Ted Cruz.

I know from firsthand knowledge that here in my state, in at least two counties, lovers of liberty have taken over the county party.

As the previous poster wrote, get involved in your local party. You CAN make a difference. I’ve been involved since the late 80s, and we are nearing critical mass.

    I’m very serious.

      Karen,

As the saying goes, from your mouth to God’s ear. But it will take a generation to undo the indoctrination of half the population and the corruption of 99% of the media. I would venture the same is true re the GOP national leadership and its obnoxious ‘consultants.’

The GOP simply can no longer be trusted any more than the democrat party can. It has become institutionally corrupt.

We need to destroy it to make room for its replacement: either the Tea Party, the Libertarian party, the William Jacobson Party – whatever. It’s no big thing: remember, there was once a Whig Party. That went by the wayside, too.

The Republican Party has become a dirty word, both to the left — and the right. is a completely corrupt institution. Trust is zero, and deservedly so. Supporting these bastards on the local level is enabling the corrupt leadership on the national level.

We need to rebuild from the ground up. Let’s stop wasting time and just do it.

So, TheFineReport, what’s the name of your precinct?

How many Republican Party precinct committeeman slots are allotted for it?

Do you know its physical boundaries?

Do you know how many of the Republican Party PC slots allotted to the precinct are filled?

Do you know the process for becoming a voting member of the Party in your state?

If so, could you lay it out for those in your state who might lurk here and might want to know how to become a PC in your state? If you have a link to a “how to” guide in your state, could you provide it, as I’d like to add it to my little PC recruitment blog?

These are the kinds of questions we each need to answer if we are going to get onto the path for retaking our Party and, then, our government.

        Thanks very much.

Cold warrior, no matter how we retake the local leadership, it simply empowers the rats entrenched in the GOP leadership positions in Washington. Sometimes, you cannot ‘retake’ an institution that is corrupt — it is simply more efficient to rebuild. We need to starve the GOP out of existence and replace it with people like us in its leadership. When the likes of Karl Rove pop up to give advice, we answer with a bag of excrement to their face.

There is no more time to fool around. We are about to lose the House in 2014 because of the cowardice and corruption of the GOP leadership we have just witnessed.

I think our chances are better with a new party now. We will lose the House in 2014. Boehner just guaranteed it.

TheFineReport, if you won't answer any of my questions, it's sort of hard to have a dialogue with you.

If you decide to answer my questions, then we can continue the dialogue.

Otherwise, good luck with your strategy.

Meanwhile, I'll continue trying to convince conservatives to unite and organize politically where they live for real political action inside their respective local Republican Party committees — by becoming actual "voting members" of the Party — for all the reasons I've outlined above and that I've outlined at the links I've provided.

Sorry, but Cruz and Lee are self-promoting demagogues who attacked their colleagues without even the courtesy of a heads-up. They forced this whole fiasco without consulting anyone, with no plan at all. Except to build fundraising databases for themselves, that is.

If this is to you acceptable behavior for gentlemen, you do not belong in polite society. If you hate the people elected Republicans have freely and repeatedly chosen as their leaders, perhaps the GOP is the wrong place for you.

A true conservative might rightly complain about his treatment at the hands of his fellows, but he would never respond in kind. Well, he might if he were a back-stabbing bastard like Gingrich. But no decent conservative would respect him afterward.

I don’t think you have been reading the responses of Cruz and Lee to the outrageous attacks from their own party. Look up what Peter King has said. Look up what John McCain has said. Lee and Cruz HAVE NOT responded in kind. Your leftist transference is not working here.

I could be wrong, but Estragon often makes trolling comments. His statement, calling Cruz and Lee, “self-promoting demagogues” – very nicely fits McCain and Peter King, so his attaching it to Cruz and Lee is laughable.

Lady Penguin in reply to Estragon. | October 17, 2013 at 5:12 am

BTW, Estragon, the war chests filled with millions of dollars by #undocumentedDemocrats (once known as RINOs) are what keep the Establishment GOP in office. It’s also fairly clear that the current GOP Establishment doesn’t have a clue what they stand for or their principles.

But that suits your purposes, doesn’t it?

    Man, are you off-base.

To paraphrase Crazy Nancy Pelosi, no less: Cruz drained the swamp – and we saw what slime was lurking underneath.

Not only will the GOP leadership happily sit in the back seat while Obama and the left drives us off a cliff, but they’ll chip in for gas, thinking there’s something in it for them.

The GOP may be listed next to the names of a bunch of corrupt, cowardly, incompetent hack elected officials, but it is as dead a party as Boehner is as Boehner as an opposition leader. The GOP — and the democrat party too, by the way — is so institutionally corrupt that it cannot be repaired any more than Obamacare. Both need to be done with, and we need to begin from scratch.

Estragon: “demagogues who attacked their colleagues without even the courtesy of a heads-up.”

Thats a lie that was dealt with within the first days of this. Cruz et al went over all this weeks before in GOP meetings. They even displayed a signed memo (signed by other GOP) to prove it.

Which makes me ask: where the hell are you getting your information? CNN? MSNBC? Because if you want to be taken seriously, you need to get better information brokers.

    Or quit lying.

One Democrat guest on FOX’s many “fair and balanced” back and forths (that I usually avoid) … said Boehner failed to keep his team under control. And that is one thing the left does pretty well, especially now. They all stick to the rabid trash talk, they all refuse to address the debt, they boldly lie using the same script. As Susan Rice knows, telling the big lie leads to advancement.

The left had “clean bills” for government funding on Reid’s desk, but they all lied and said Republicans were holding government hostage. Funding was in Reid’s hand, but they demanded the dirty omnibus with NO DEBATE. Boehner seemed ready to surrender at the start, because he never seemed to fight back against the “hostage” lie, never showed that a “CLEAN CR” was anything but clean. He only danced through a few tea party placating, unpersuasive stalls.

Everything has become Orwellian … including the media acceptance of Dem’ scare word “DEFAULT”, when even Moody’s made clear we won’t default. The debt ceiling would have only imposed a bigger form of sequester, where harder choices would have to be made.

McConnell got his thirty pieces of silver, and it really felt that “RINOs” had already made their deals. The markets never faltered, probably fully aware it is all a charade, and that the rich will get richer because there is more easy money to come. The elderly will get negative real returns on their hard earned savings, thus transferring wealth to the banks and traders, according to plan.

The charade is all about deceiving the 68% that want lower taxes, less government. Many house reps now get to vote against this bill and look like they took a stand, while the senate never had to take up all those bills that funded government, minus the special exemptions in Obamacare. That seemed predestined in backrooms.
