Arrest of al-Zawahiri’s brother as crackdown on Muslim Brotherhood continues in Egypt

The younger brother of al Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri has reportedly been arrested, as the military’s crackdown on the Muslim Brotherhood continues amidst protests in Egypt.

From the Associated Press (via Washington Post):

Egyptian authorities have arrested the brother of al-Qaida chief Ayman al-Zawahri, a security official said Saturday.

He said Mohammed al-Zawahri, leader of the ultraconservative Jihadi Salafist group, was detained at a checkpoint in Giza, the city across the Nile from Cairo.

Mohammed al-Zawahri’s group espouses a hard-line ideology but was not clandestine prior to Egypt’s July 3 coup. He was allied with ousted President Mohammed Morsi, an Islamist, whose supporters are now taking to the streets to protest the killings of its supporters in a security crackdown last week.

The official declined to give further details. He spoke anonymously as he was not authorized to talk to the press.

Earlier today, security forces stormed a mosque in Cairo that was filled with hundreds of supporters of ousted President Mohammed Morsi.  Tear gas can be seen being dispersed inside the mosque as the sounds of gunfire could be heard in the background.

The son of the leader of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt is said to have been among 173 killed in Friday’s “Day of Rage” protests, according to NBC News.  And more than 1000 of the Brotherhood movement’s supporters were reportedly arrested Friday.

Meanwhile, Egypt is said to be considering disbanding the Muslim Brotherhood.

From TIME:

Egyptian authorities are considering disbanding the Muslim Brotherhood group, a government spokesman said Saturday, once again outlawing a group that held the pinnacle of government power just more than a month earlier.  […]

Cabinet spokesman Sherif Shawki said that Prime Minister Hazem el-Beblawi, who leads the military-backed government, assigned the Ministry of Social Solidarity to study the legal possibilities of dissolving the group. He didn’t elaborate.

There’s a reason the Brotherhood has been banned in virtually every country in the Middle-East for many decades.

In the same regard, there’s a reason the Obama administration have been stalwart supporters of the Brotherhood.

Even better news. Kerry’s dream of being the democratic nominee for president in 2016 has just exploded.

So many trips. And, all people do is laugh at him.

Obama must be in such a rage! While Assad sees a “no fly pajama bottom’s” interruption! Putin is already making overtures to Egypt, too.

And, it appears the Egyptian military is up to the task of keeping their country in order.

Can’t say as much about our military, though! They must be running around like chickens with their heads cut off.

Too bad they didn’t take out the snipers in the minaret by collapsing it with tank fire

Having worked with non-Arabic Muslims for years I strongly support the elimination of the MBs both here & the rest of the world.

Oh, no! They’re gonna ban the MB?!?!?! Why? Why? Why? Who is Obama going to genuflect to when he goes to Egypt again? Whose imams will make secret visits to the WH? The sky is falling in!

On a related note, is anybody watching the Military History Channel? This weekend, they are showing the Third Reich and the sheer brutality of the concentration camps. Hitler and Heinrich Himmler were role model for the grand mufti of Jerusalem, for Arafat, for Saddam Hussein, for the murderers of the MB, Hamas and Fatah. There is a reason Mein Kampf is hot stuff in Islamic countries. Anyway, watch and weep, let it stiffen your spine so such carnage does not happen again. I would not wish the Auschwitz and Dachau to happen to Muslims even though they would revive them if they could.

hitler lost. And in his final months he lived “downstairs,” in a bunker. He knew Eisenhower was west of Berlin. Hitler couldn’t wait! Alas, Truman sat on Eisenhower. And, the torch to go in was passed to Stalin. With relish, from the east, he sent in more than a million men. And, tanks. Rains came. And, the tanks washed out and got stuck. But one-million-men couldn’t be stopped. Nor could they be fitted with “fight like a Geneva man” buttons. They TORE their ways through!

Finally, in a panic, hitler swallowed a bullet. If he didn’t he’d have been dragged up the bunker and stalin would have shown him a thing or two.

    Germany was a wasteland.

There’s also a reason the concentration camps were built way back. To tempt the Americans and the British to fly in there to drop bombs. Germany was ahead on radar. The British were at a loss. They could only fly in blind.

And, the Germans kept bombing British towns.

Penicillin got developed to fight war wound infections.

Radar got developed by sending out brave pilots to photograph German installations.

Concentration camps are more likely to happen to Jews and Christians rather than muslims.

Um, will Obama try to extradite this clown?

The deliciousness of this news is that the media get flommoxed. They don’t want to root for the New Egypt. But then instead of “fields of dead bodies,” in one motion General El Sisi … produces an eye-opening, eye-popping, headline grabber.

I am amused by the love of the Egyptian military in these comments.

It is estimated that they control maybe 50% of Egypts economy through quangos & networks of influence( plus your donations of billions) .

I think we should all go extra & donate our alcohol allowance for a month so the Egyptian military can build themselves a new sphinx on top of a mega Abrams .

Go big or get out Sisi.
