Today was the deadline set by the Egyptian military for President Mohammed Morsi to reach an accommodation with the opposition and protesters.

Morsi just rejected the ultimatum, via BBC:

Egypt’s president has rejected an army ultimatum that the country’s crisis be resolved by Wednesday, amid deadly protests across the capital.

Mohammed Morsi insisted on his constitutional legitimacy as president and said he would not be dictated to.

It is clear he expects the military to depose him in the coming hours, says the BBC’s Aleem Maqbool in Cairo

Says in speech:

“I am prepared to sacrifice my blood.”

Let me see? Mubarak is safer in prison. Michelle Obama thinks she’s in prison. And, Morsi thinks all he has to do is sqat in Mubarak’s old palace? He hasn’t seen all the resignations, already, as other threw in the towel?

Maybe, someone will write a song: “Move Over Mubarak.” ??

May he go down like a martyr!

I only hope however many decent officers remain in the Turkish Army are paying close attention.

Morsi is a leftist totalitarian (that’s what Islamists are) and leftists engage in ‘opposite speak’ and live in an ideological atmosphere that is disconnected from and contradictory to reality.

What he really means when he says, “I am prepared to sacrifice my blood.”is, “I am prepared to sacrifice your blood.”

If the Army and people ignore him they might just take over the government with a (mostly) bloodless coup and Morsi will be left completely impotent.

A leader only has teeth if he has the military, police, courts, etc. to back him up. Without that, he just has a big palace to hang out in.

Yeah, we heard that song before, Uncle.

    We give…
    Our lives
    Our blood
    For you, Saddam.

Now fast-forward to today, July 3, when we learn that the Administration does actually care:

Officials have also warned the Egyptian military that a military coup [against the Muslim Brotherhood] would trigger U.S. legislation cutting off all U.S. aid, which totals about $1.5 billion per year.

For those keeping score at home, the Obama Administration waives human rights requirements when the Muslim Brotherhood is in power but then threatens to impose those very same waived requirements when the military — our decades-long ally within Egypt — threatens to assert control.

I erred in the title of my post by calling the policy “chaos.” It’s not chaos. It makes perfect sense in context with Administration actions from the Green Revolution to the “Arab Spring.” Allies are thrown under the bus with alacrity, enemies are wooed with money and weapons — and through it all, radicals prosper and Christians die.

Thought that nailed the high points rather well.

“Officials have also warned the Egyptian military that a military coup [against the Muslim Brotherhood] would trigger U.S. legislation cutting off all U.S. aid, which totals about $1.5 billion per year.”

That figures… The only glimmer of hope for real democracy in Egypt will be met by maximum interference by our esteemed anointed one. Why am I not surprised?

Another great decision by the gang that cannot shoot straight!

Don’t get mad with Obama. Really. Truly. Don’t get mad. If the MB are thrown out right now, the coming of the caliphate will be delayed. The caliphate is really important. Obama can’t have delays.

Don’t think legislation would pass. Most conservatives in the House and Senate know O and his playmates the Muzzie Brotherhood are Islamic fascists and want the military to take over and put the muzzies our of power.

    Please explain.

I know that Morsi is Muslim Brotherhood and they were supposedly elected to power first through protests, bloody coup, imprisoning Mubarak (which, with assassination is the most common Islamic way of changing governments) and then they had an (allegedly) valid election.

Is the military that are threatening to take over also Muslim Brotherhood-dominated?

Or are the Military with the 33,000,000 Egyptians who are protesting Islamic theocratic totalitarianism via the Muslim Brotherhood?

Morsi purged some of the top officers a while back, and the commentary was that new officers had connections to the MB. However, the news stories today suggest that the military is acting independently.

Figuring out who’s who among the Islamists is futile.

The Syrian Rebels are not necessarily Syrian or rebels, they are Islamic fighters from all over the muslim world, EU, Asia, North and South America.

All this may really be the same old Sunni vs Shiite war that started very soon after Mohammed died.

I am referring to a comment I thought was on this thread where Obama said the US Congress would cut off military aid if a coup happened.

“I am prepared to sacrifice my blood.”

Easily arranged. In Egypt, that would have happened if you were a Christian, in all likelihood…

Carol Herman | July 2, 2013 at 6:57 pm

Delusional. Erdogan is delusional. Morsi is delusional. And, Obama is delusional. Nixon was just paranoid. And, then came Jimmy Carter.

I have no words for what’s happened to democracy.

No words for Florida’s elected officials, either.

[…] EGYPT: Morsi rejects military ultimatum (Update: “I am prepared to sacrifice my blood”). […]

Then we should let him.

That’s a good start.

No problem; Obama will just send over a dozen long-stemmed fighter jets with a sympathy card and everything will be just peachy….

Hillary in 2016: her handling of Egypt sure prove she’s ready!

I am prepared to sacrifice my blood.

I look forward to that. All too often, the most vocal rabble rousers are all too eager to see other people’s blood shed, but rarely their own.

And yes, I’m looking at you, what’s left of the senior leadership of al Queda.
