Robin Kelly refuses to debate

Republican Paul McKinley has called upon the Chicago Tribune to sponsor a debate between himself and Democrat candidate Robin Kelly, who thus far has managed to avoid having to debate in public during the general election. Election Day is April 9.

Monday, McKinley issued a press release calling on the Tribune to sponsor a debate, and Wednesday published a letter to the Kelly campaign that describes Kelly’s refusal to debate in public as “unacceptable.”

His followers are joining in, barraging The Chicago Tribune with tweets calling for them to hold a debate. The Tribune appears not to have responded via twitter.

McKinley has referred to Kelly as being in the “Machine Witness Protection Program” and called on The Machine to “let her debate”:

Why is the Chicago Tribune ignoring calls for a debate, which will not only allow them to break news but also serve the readers’ interest?

Very sad circumstance for Democracy 1) a candidate will not debate, 2) a major media player will not do their job, and 3) where the hell is the Republican Party support for McKinley?

The Illinois Republican party has been moribund since the last Republican governor went to the slammer for selling driver’s licenses for votes…. The national GOP is too busy navel gazing.

Robin Kelly is only doing what JJJr. was doing…he was absent courtesy of the Mayo Clinic and still got 107,804 votes.

I love this.

My only concern is that he doesn’t seem very articulate… but I’m not sure any amount of noise would get a response. tweeted anyway

Well he could be an “…African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy,” but we’ve already got one of those in the White House.

Forget the debate and get on with the coronation. It’s a Democrat +110 district. They’ll elect a Democrat candidate even if the candidate is in jail.

For those of you who don’t Tweet! : )

Refuses, eh? Gosh, does that mean mo’ free phone’for all DEM already counted votes?

If by some really astronomically small ass chance, Paul McKinley wins, heads will roll and McKinley’s, just may be one of those heads.

They want Robin ‘Chicago’ to win, that way that inner city murder rate with ALL those legal guns can keep ahead of the competition.

You know, East LA, St.Louis, Bloomyville, etc, etc.

Rahm, gots to keep his job! After all Rahmmy is getting his arse kicked by a fat slob union’ette.

They’ll duck it, like Dianne Feinstein ducked it in CA. I still don’t understand how Feinstein’s oppponent let her get away with it, as she could have really made a scene about it.

I give this man a lot of credit. He knows that change is not easy, but it is possible. And he is acting on it. Chicago Republicans should be supporting him in some way. Thank you LI for at least giving this man some coverage. Chicago Republicans might just as well be Democrats.
