The line in Paul Ryan’s speech about college grads living at home staring at a faded Obama poster was brilliant:
College graduates should not have to live out their 20s in their childhood bedrooms, staring up at fading Obama posters and wondering when they can move out and get going with life.
I’m not sure what other line has been so evocative in any campaign I can remember. The imagery of a faded poster is so much the imagery of the Obama administration, paper-thin illusions which fade over time as reality sets in.
Those of us of a certain age know what it means to lose one’s youth. But that is supposed to happen later in life, not in our prime. The Obama illusion is costing our youths their youth long before their time.
That loss of our youths’ youth is devastating for parents as well. This is not how it was supposed to be.
