For blogs, my “Blogs I Read” list in the sidebar and many of the Blogs to Note are my go to places. But, I’m constantly on the prowl for better places to get “news” – whatever that means.
As you know, I dropped Politico as a regular visit long ago, although sometimes it’s impossible not to go there, in favor of The Hill. I also rarely go to Drudge anymore, usually only when I hit the link in the browser by mistake (old habits are hard to break).
I’m liking Roll Call, and a couple of new places (for me):
- Mediaite. They seem to be on top of stories very quickly, and I like the video embeds which are very stable here. (Some embeds from websites like The Daily Caller disappear when I make updates to a post, which makes it a pain.) Also, Noah Rothman, formerly of politics-ology, joined last week, and I look forward to his posts.
- The Washington Free Beacon also is a great new resource, a project of The Center for American Freedom. Matthew Continetti, formerly of The Weekly Standard and National Review, is the editor in chief.
- The Times of Israel is living up to expectations, and the website is a lot more user friendly than The Jerusalem Post, which infuriates me with pop ups, pop downs, and every other type of pop imaginable.
- BuzzFeed Politics has been a disappointment, because of editorial graphics as below. It will be interesting to see how they tilt as we approach the general election.

My fixtures are this site (also, your “blogs I read” is excellent and updated regularly); the Breitbarts (though I’ve noticed a slippage since the maestro passed away); Instapundit; Investors Business Daily; Malkin; Nice Deb (title belies the clear and gritty writing).
I gave up on HotAir. Maybe it was Ed Morrissey’s cloying and squishy “on one hand, on the other hand” routine.
Horowitz’s Frontpage.org has a wealth of stuff from great writers.
Ah, yes. Places – a great Beatles song; somehow seems to have more meaning to me as I grow older.
I don’t even mind that Mike Farrell used it as an opening them to his “Providence” television series … although the beautiful visage of Melina Kanakaredes might have quite a bit to do with that forgiveness. 🙂

I’m leary about Mediate because of Tommy Christopher, who at the very least has been dishonest at times. I hesitated on WeaselZippers, just because the name sounded too silly, but the content is fresh and is now in my regular rotation. Can’t wait to see more suggestions, though my blogroll is crammed full as is. I just know LI is my 2nd stop after Drudge. Yes, Drudge’s Romney cheerleading ticks me off, but he is still the consumate news aggregator when time is limited.
William, I’m using National Journal for hard political reporting, although I’m sure you could find a left-wing slant there in due time. So far, so good, in any case. And Telegraph UK is great on international news, and competes with the New York Times in my opinion.
National Journal is as ‘Far Left’ as I need. Went there to follow Major Garret when he left Fox. Only stayed for a couple weeks.

Rochester (Gannettville) is a living, breathing Associated Press Bubble. For instance, not one Rabbi here was aware that the Global March on Jerusalem took place. Not one. State Run Media is alive and well and if Rochester is the result of keeping people dumb, well, Obama WILL win.
Just one note on BuzzFeed. Ben Smith is/was a member of Journalist and ran an impt dept of the Politico Propoganda Machine until he got promoted and now runs his own site. This piece I wrote about Smith (The Lie that Elected Barack Obama) got little attention when it was written. Please feel free to use any part of it in order to amplify the message.

Yoani Sanchez’s blog, “Generaton Y”, is leading the freedom movement in Cuba. She’s been compared to Lech Walesa and Vaclav Klaus. Her blog has won numerous internationl awards and is published in numerous languages. President Obama publicly took note of her in 2009. The story of how she blogs is amazing. The Cuban government forbids home internet access (even computers were illegal until a few years ago). She goes to a hotel about once a week to post where Wi-Fi access costs about $9/hoour – or about 1/3 of a month’s pay. She relies on a huge network of Cuban ex-pats and others to translate her posts onto 28 different blogs in over 20 different languages. She started blogging in 2007 and by 2008 the Cuban government had installed filters to prevent her blog from being read in Cuba. All the “tabs” like “How to Help”, “My Profile”, etc. provide much of the history of what’s she’s had to endure just to freely express herself – something that comes as naturally as breathing to us. Hers is just an amazing story.

Climate Depot is an aggregator for news stories and blog posts on the climate debate. I like it because it’s very similar to Drudge. He scans the news wires and the noteable climate blogs and cherry picks the best to link to. The downside is it’s very one sided. He rarely links to stories or blogs that support global warming. Still, it’s worth visiting the blog a few minutes a day just to scan the headlines:

Well said Jaynie59. Front groups for the Dem Party posing as journalists are everywhere. Ditto for polling outfits and “Watchdog” groups. “UN Watch” is a perfect example!
I would suggest The First Street Journal. While I am an occasional author there and do get the occasional visitor to my own site from here, the vast majority of the articles on TFSJ come from someone else. And he does a pretty decent job of providing information and commentary from a Conservative standpoint.
