Pres**ent “Gutsy Call”

Browndog in reply to Neo. | January 24, 2012 at 10:37 pm

John Wayne and General Patton all rolled up into one-

God knows…he has no idea who/what they are/where.

    A clue to the President-

    The ARE America.

    Were?

I was worried there for a sec that I missed something.

a little off-topic but related (I think) to the SOTU……Facebook is acting all sorts of weird tonight, not just my account but everyone that was on while I was. Missing comments, misplaced posts and just general weirdness…..could the lefties at Facebook be causing mayhem to prevent the spread of opinion on social media websites, or is it unusually high traffic with everyone weighing in on how much of a LIAR the POTUS is?

Juba Doobai! in reply to scooterjay. | January 25, 2012 at 5:35 am

Likely the Lefties. They control the medium therefore the control the message. Like Google, amassing all this info and the don’t care if you don’t like it. Your info will service their agenda. Get used to it.

Mitch Daniels has the Republican response.

I don’t know how it comes across as delivered, but as written: wow.

This is a magnificent speech. Thank you for the link.

You’re welcome. However, the speech may or may not be consistent with Daniels’ record and with what he would do as President.

Read my lips: the Thousand Points of Light address was a helluva speech too.

The foregoing is meant as due diligence, not as an attack on Daniels.

Why didn’t he mention Obamacare? It’s the one issue that most Americans agree with Republicans about.

The worst part of Daniel’s speech:

“Decades ago, for instance, we could afford to send millionaires pension checks and pay medical bills for even the wealthiest among us. Now, we can’t, so the dollars we have should be devoted to those who need them most.”

Give to those most in “need”? So we’re talking about changing social security and medicare to welfare. What is paid out for social security or for medicare should be based on need. Shouldn’t be based on years worked or amount paid in. This is an astonishing change sure to bankrupt the whole system that was built on an insurance model and supposed to pay for itself not a government grant model.

Not to mention that those who were forced to pay in under the promise that this was a pension plan, now get (surprise!) nothing.

Not to mention the incentive not to become a millionaire (or, knowing how these things work, not to become someone who makes over $250,000, then $200,000, then $150,000, and on and on) lest you lose all the benefits of the payroll taxes you have paid in before you got there. Wasn’t he just saying how counterproductive it is to raise taxes on the rich? Raise taxes; pull their benefits; what’s the difference?

Some reform is inevitable. Paying double for items like beds or other devices is one thing. Tort reform is another. Several items are “easy” if the lobbyists were not writing the bills. Put Wal-Mart in charge and they’d strip out a lot of scamming that is enriching a whole population in the field.

Medicare has been more like elder welfare for along time, though you have to pay in a minimum. And a lot of elderly end up in the Medicaid beds eventually. Illinois is slow to pay … we really have to do something or decide if it is OK to let a LOT of people go without care when they need it most. Means testing doesn’t seem so radical to me.

But nothing will be good enough for Obama and the Marxists. Demanding equal outcomes in everything (class warfare) is their path to control. So for now the poor and obese can get knee replacements, but that is not enough for the left. My experience is that much of the health care system is designed to milk the system. And Obamacare seems designed to break it.

Serious people don’t get a seat at the table.

Just a question, MR. Who’s the “we” who in the past have been paying for rich people’s benefits but can’t afford to do that now?

Not taxpayers. People in the payroll tax/social security system.

A means test on social security benefits for people who have paid in is as reasonable as a means test on income tax deductions. We can no longer afford to give rich people income tax breaks. I think that’s what President Obama is saying.

Is it just me or did I hear Obama basically declare himself king by saying he could combine agencies on his own and (basically) ignore congress.

Didn’t watch. Fight club.

He really say that? Weak sauce.

For the safety of my TV I watched “The Mummy”.
Set SOTU to record.

Thought Hammanuptra would be an escape but it reminded me to much of the nearby 2012 DC.

With this years SC rulings, I did wonder which Justices were there tonight and if there was any “Because I Command it” incident like the SC 2009 incident SOTU?

65 minutes of unpresidential nothing burger laced with class warfare pickles. Daniels did a great little rebuttal speech.

I’m not a veteran, but I was sitting next to a Viet Nam vet as we watched, and I thought he was going to come out of his skin listening to Obama explain to his audience – including the Joint Chiefs of Staff – what it’s like for the foot soldier to go into battle. It would be like me explaining to Hugh Hefner the delights of beautiful women.

I couldn’t find the quote above in the transcript…..I might be missing it.

However, I they left all the TOTUS’s pauses for (Applause)…so I don’t put it past the them.

…and a few (Laughter) spots via TOTUS as well…

…and also an incident of (Laughter and Applause)….

…oops that was last year….apologies….

Me, me, me.

…and now I understand the SOTU tradition here at LI….

Did you notice that in the final 30 seconds Obama’s voice rose as he spoke and he clearly expected applause that he’d have to yell over as he closed his speech, his closing crescendo – but he got nothing. Nobody clapped, nobody stood. He thanked people, closed out, and only then did they applaud.

As far as I was concerned, there was a disconnect between reality and the speech. I truly and honestly wish that it had had some substance behind it.

I saw a new episode of Storage Wars. That Barry Weiss is so funny.

Wait. There was another speech by Obama? Was it important and earth shattering? No? Just more leftist propaganda?

I wouldn’t listen to an hour of that taquiyya lying asshole if you paid me.

Bin Laden was relieved of his duties at Al Qaeda in order to head up Obama’s reelection campaign.

So the guy who has voted present 99.999% of the time is claiming credit for killing Bin Laden. He blames everything on Bush, yet uses and claims Bush’s War on Terror operations as his own successes.

yep … i spent the time playing Call Of Duty MF2 instead of listening to anymore lies and distortion from our illegitimate President.

: )

I find doublespeak offensive.

Rose, I came here to post that, thank goodness you beat me to it. That is an excellent RNC ad that was put out less than 1 hour after SOTU. Rience Priebus is a great addition.

I took a crap. There was no difference between “the speech” and what was flushed. I did, however, feel better after pushing the handle.

I watched south park.
I found it to be more politically truthful then obama.

I had to watch some paint dry.

Obama was getting Bin Laden. Talk about self absorbtion and what an insult to our military. Obama had about as much to do with getting Bin Laden as I did getting the sun to rise in the East this morning by facing the Atlantic Ocean.

Actually, I think it was his closing line. “…and on the 7th day I rested”.

The guy’s runaway egocentric personality makes my skin crawl and you are right on with your comment about the 7th day.
I note the call for equal opportunity and thats fine. However Obama confuses opportunity with results…they are different things.

“An economy built to last, where hard work pays off, and responsibility is rewarded.”

Besides ripping off the first part from Ford, this sounds racist by the measure used for comments by Republican candidates.

I didn’t watch the State of the Obama speech last night. I was working overtime to make ends meet.

“..under my administration illegal immigration is the lowest it’s been in yada yada yada..”

Yeah, that’s because your economy killed all the jobs that draws the illegals across the border. Thanks, Sparky.

“..under my administration our dependence on foreign oil is the lowest it’s been in yada yada yada..”

Uh-huh. Again, thanks to your abysmal economy, nobody’s working, manufacturing is down, business is down, and so the market for oil is way down as well. Keep up the great work, Bunky.

We can exterminate all the rats, all the mice, get rid of all the pigeons, eliminate the broken windows, obviate the busted door hinges, leaky roof, busted pipes, and whatever else is wrong with Casa America – by simply burning it down. Thanks, Captain. The idea never occurred to us. All problems would be gone. Get to it.

Under the 1974 Congressional Budget Act, the President is to submit his budget request on the first Monday in February – a deadline Presidents have consistently met – except this year. This week the White House said it will be a week late.
